Peterson not winning the MVP would be the biggest travesty of my lifetime. A running back can't do any more. Replace him with an average starting RB and the Vikes win 2-3 games.

Minnesota had an MVP drought from 1965 (Versalles) through 2003. Since then we've had Garnett (03-04), Morneau (06), and Mauer (09). This season by Peterson was so much better than any of those.

So next year's schedule will be the NFC East, AFC North, SEA, and CAR...is that correct?

Early line on the game next week is Vikings +8; sounds like the time is now to put some money down, before it moves to 5.5.

Also, if Greg Jennings is a free agent Zygi writes him a gigantic check right?

Mauer 09 was pretty ridiculous as far as baseball seasons go. He was the MLBs 2nd best hitter overall (behind Pujols) while playing the toughest defensive position.

I'm a basketball noob but afaik that Garnett season was insane. BB-Ref has it as 26th all-time by total win shares. He was basically the league's best defender and close to the best offensive player while playing huge minutes (39/g) for an otherwise terrible team. Garnett and Cassel were 1 and 2 in simple on/off +/- stats that season. http://82games.com/teams05.htm

The Peterson MVP discussion comes down to whether MVP should really be the most valuable player or the most outstanding achievement or something. If we're talking about the former it has to be one of Brady or Manning (as usual).

If it's the latter, Peterson's season was pretty outstanding. He put the team on his ****ing back doe.

Peterson clearly the most valuable. Replace him with the 15th best RB (Shonn Green) and we win 2-3 games. Replace Manning with the 15th best QB (Shaub) and Denver wins 10-12 games. **** they won 9 with Tebow. Read the SE Final Rankings thread for more of my opinion on this.

I somewhat agee with jay on this, but im not sure ”replace w league ave” is a fair way to analyze this, since league ave qbs are very valuable and league ave rbs are not (since there is such a greater difference between ave and replacement level for qbs). If we replace manning with whoever denvers backup is and peterson with gehrhart, I think its close. I suspect brady has him beat for sure though.

and yeah, sl, I think you have to (well, not have to. But I want to) give adp a little bit of a bonus for having this type of impact at a tougher position to do it at. In other words, if we measured in terms of standard deviations above probowl caliber for his position, peterson would win in a landslide

That line is not moving to 5.5 unless there is a major injury or Lambeau field blows up and the game is played at a neutral location.

I agree with everything SL has said re: MVP. Denver was not a true 9 win team last year (they were worse), with Shonne Greene the Vikes would not be a true 2-3 win team and as is they aren't a true 10 win team.

I was yelling at the tv the rest of the game because of that stupid timeout. I kept thinking that dumb TO was going to cost us the game until it was over. My wife was getting annoyed at me

Garnett was a man among boys that season (and a few others where he did not win MVP). Not only were his numbers amazing, but he was the kind of player who just does **** that never winds up in the stats (yes, I'm aware some of the advanced stats pick up some of that kind of stuff, but not all of it). For that reason, I've always thought he's a little better than Duncan, who's numbers are somewhat similar.

What you guys are saying about MVP is right - it has to be AP. What some of the voters will look at (right or wrong) is how he finished this game - shredding the pack's D on that last drive.

SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going to have a lot of trouble stopping them on Saturday if Winfield is out. Once he left the game, the pack did pretty much what they wanted to offensively.

Anyone hear how bad H Smith is hurt?

When the Vikings were 4-1 people were talking about Harvin's MVP chances, not Peterson's.

yeah we would have won more than 2-3 for sure, but from about that point on, AP had probably the greatest 11 stretch for a RB in NFL history.

I don't want Jennings. He is very good, but IMO is a product of Favre+ARod his entire career.

I'd rather have Bowe or Wallace.

AJ Jefferson could turn into an okay player one day, but right now he is a massive liability in coverage. On a more positive note Eversen Griffen is a monster.

Can Adrian sweep MVP and comeback player of the year or does he split these two awards with Manning.

Yea he is well below replacement level IMO.

The difference in our secondary is dramatic when either Winfield or Cook is out.

When Smith was out too, our secondary looked like last year's.

Gotta give Comeback POY to Manning; he missed a whole year and is back to MVP level leading his team to #1 seed in AFC. Adrian for MVP though!
