he wasnt walking w/ a limp, i wouldnt expect it to be serious.

also besides TJacks poor footwork my biggest complaint with him is that even when he completes passes he never hits the WR in stride, they always have to adjust and miss out on a lot of YAC. One poster on another site said that he noticed the same thing at day 1 of camp, so I'm not too confident in whatever progress hype he'll get by the media.

TJ has had more injuries in his career than Favre ever had. Or if Favre had injuries he took pain pills & played with them, lol. I dont know why anyone assumed TJ would be more durable, despite the age difference.

I hope Sage proves to be a capable player. I'm really not disappointed that TJ is injured again because I'm really tired of watching him anyway. I know TJ is better suited to be the #2 than Booty, but I've seen enough of TJ for one lifetime.

The bright side of all this is that Zygi has really high hopes for the team, and if they dont have a big year, it has to spell the end of chillyball. My fingers are crossed.

**** it, let's just get Vick and run a wishbone triple option with Taylor at fullback, and AP and Harvin as tailbacks.

Unlike TJAX, Sage has actually shown the ability to be a successful NFL quarterback. As long as he doesn't go ****** again and fumble 3 times in 3 minutes, he's got a shot to take the Vikings to the promised land imo.

he is turnover prone though, and the vikings offense probably won't be dynamic enough to make up for it. so even if jackson is worse, and i'm not convinced he is, they may be better off w/him simply b/c he will screw up less

From some blog I found via Facebook:

Harvin, Vikings Agree to Contract
Posted by mikewobschall on August 2, 2009 – 11:20 am

Vikings 1st round draft pick (22nd overall) Percy Harvin and the Vikings have agreed to a contract and the WR will soon report to training camp in Mankato. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Harvin is scheduled to arrive at training camp in time for today’s 3:00 practice. Harvin has missed 4 training camp practices, but with him now in the fold the Vikings can move ahead to Day 3 of camp with 80 players on the roster, including 11 WRs.

Better than like scoring differential?

Also, can we just make this the official Vikings thread yet?

Was at Mankato on Saturday and watched TJ go down. Looked ugly when it happened but after a minute or so he was able to walk away without too much of a limp. Up until then he looked a lot quicker in everything he was doing than either of the other two QBs... From the passing drills I watched he also seemed to be the most accurate, although almost all the drills we watched were doing throws while on the run. It is pretty amazing how accurate all three are relative to your average person. They were hitting a 2x2 foot or so square over and over again while moving and 15-20 yards away.

Phil Loadholt is a beast. He looks both bigger and more athletic than McKinnie. Him and Sullivan seemed pretty entrenched on the first team already.

Nice trip report.

I get the feeling that TJ has been a good practice player all along, which is why chilly put all his eggs in that basket. Too bad he sucks in games.

Its good to hear that about the two new linemen. Hopefully they dont have TJ syndrome in games. I think it'd be less likely for a lineman to have that problem than a QB.

Is it possible for a mod to change the title of this thread?

Not surprising. On one hand it's too bad he can't play anymore but it's pretty awesome that he is healthy enough to try.

Stat of the day, for Willie :P

Tarvaris Jackson 10W, 9L
Sage Rosenfels 6W, 6L

Love the new thread title

TJ's record as a starter is not indicative of the quality of his play imo.

Actually, TJ deserves one more win. Vikings were down 6-3 when he replaced Frerotte at halftime in Detroit last year.

Texas' offense (outside of QB) was much more talented than MN's last season imo. They have a contender for best WR in the NFL (easy top-3 imo), a great 2nd receiver, a couple solid other options, a very good TE and an average/above average OL and decent RB talent.

I'd say the Vikings had an average OL, significantly below average receivers, an above average receiving TE (fo real) and of course sick HB talent. Peterson is probably also a slight leak in the passing game though as his blocking and catching skills both appear to be pretty poor still as far as I can tell. Probably didn't hurt them much though because they play CT a lot more in more obvious passing situations as he appears to be really good at both catching and blocking.

/edit I almost would like to see the Vikings try to use CT in a Larry Centers like role a little this season. Theoretically something there should be plenty of room for in a WCO.

apparently you are forgetting the fact that the vikings had an awesome defense and houston didn't. that should have (and did) help(ed) TJ win.

No, the wins thing was just a joke. That last post was actually serious and reflected some thoughts about their actual offensive performance in the small sample each played last season.

On a per attempt basis Jackson was the better QB last season. I realize that the vast majority of that is due to his 2 to 10 advantage in interceptions over a similar number of attempts.

Jackson vs. Sage really doesn't matter much though I suppose. I very very slightly prefer TJ but discussing the difference between our three very meh options at QB isn't all that interesting I suppose. Maybe it's two meh options and one bad one (Booty). I still don't have much hope for him.

My buddy took good pics/video during our trip to training camp in Mankato over the weekend. Might post some more later, but this is probably the most entertaining one anyway:

Rick Spielman says this in a column by Sid:

"This is my second time being around Sage, and he's been a very, extremely talented backup-type quarterback," Spielman said. "He has an opportunity to come in here and compete with Tarvaris [Jackson], and we feel very fortunate to have two type quarterbacks like that."

So we're really fortunate to have two backup-type QBs. Gotta love the ringing endorsement from the GM.

Agree w/ everything except Greenway is overrated, too poor in coverage to be a Pro Bowl caliber player.

As somebody who was very, very against drafting Harvin over Oher I am officially excited about Harvin. Every report from training camp is that he's been catching the ball well and burning our CBs for long TDs. The days I was there he was being utilized often, getting end arounds, motioned to the backfield, kick / punt returns, QB'ing the wildcat formation. Now put him on one side and Berrian on the other and send them both deep. If the defense is putting the SS in the box it's gonna mean one of these guys is gonna have 1 on 1.

Also sounds like Sage is gonna win this competition by default. TJack's mcl sprain combined w/ apparently looking poor when trying to rush back is really gonna cost him. Also he shouldn't win in the first place as his deep ball is the worst I've ever seen at the professional level.
