But anyone with a brain realizes the only good thing that Favre would have brought to the Vikings is the first few games of the season teams might not have loaded the box as much.
this

i'm not at all suggesting that the vikings are a better team with favre or that favre is a great QB whose absence hurts the vikings, just that the perception of his greatness means that him not being a viking ****s the team over

I've said it before, maybe not here, but as much as I would've liked to see Favre in Vikings purple this year, eff him if he doesn't want to be in training camp. The last thing we need is this guy coming in and basically confirming the haters' perception that he's a selfish prima donna (whether he actually is or not is irrelevant).

I have to respect, though, that a 40-year-old QB had surgery and was out there throwing and working it out. If he actually was working towards this and giving it all he had to go for one more shot and just realized he wasn't sure he had it...more power to him. I have mad respect for him even if I hate the Packers. For this to end properly, he needs to just sign a 1-day contract with the Packers, and retire once and for all from them. Unfortunately, the problems with him and TT won't let that happen.

my brother, for some reason, love the Jets.

i plan on buying him a Jets Favre jersey, as a retirement present.

i hinted at it last year at Christmas, and he cussed at me.

chilly's espn approval rating is way too high imo. Vote your disapproval here:

I just read this in Souhan's article in the Strib: Childress called the Star Tribune's Judd Zulgad on Tuesday afternoon to break the news, and said, "This doesn't change anything about how I feel about our football team." lolz loser, idiot, bad liar

Vikings fans who didn't want Favre are in la la land. You are an average quarterback away from being legit SB contenders. TJax will continue to do exactly what he's always done, and you'll be out in the first round again.

Will you pro-Farve vikings people still like him if he shows up in a few weeks and wants to play, and his most recent "I'm not playing" crap was just a shameless ploy to avoid training camp?

I'm pretty sure I'm not in "la la land." I wasn't opposed to signing him. He said "wanted Favre so bad" and I was solidly in the "meh" camp. Sure the Vikings are a good QB away from being a great team. Favre, at this point, probably only represents a very marginal improvement, if that.

It doesn't matter because it is unused cap space anyway, but in terms of $/win added, Favre would certainly have been a massive waste of $. Combine that with the talk of possibly cutting TJack, a cheap, decent, young QB, for one year of Favre and the value of the whole proposition is even less.

And lol@wiper. TJack threw 9TDs and 2 picks in 9 games last season.

Except Favre wasn't League Average last year and albeit in a small sample Tjax and Sage had higher DVOAs and Favre is much more likely to regress.

I recently watched every pass attempt in the 4 game stretch or whatever, not sure why you put 9 but he was "ok" in the ATL game and ARI game. DET and NYG were both very bad QB performances with decent statlines.

wait a second here. TJ might be young and cheap, but he isn't decent. it's not like baseball where you can just plug in a solid AAA player at 2B or LF and be fine. everything a QB does is magnified many times. having a guy who's pretty fast and has a very good arm but doesn't really have a clue and can't handle pressure is fine if you need him to fill in for 4 games, but it's very very bad for your superbowl chances if you need him to play all season and post-season.

there's a very good chance favre would have collapsed this year, but that's no loss because you have TJ to back him up anyway. there's a much higher chance he has a good season/post-season than that TJ does. maybe as high as like 20% that he's a success, which is worth a ton. it's basically a freeroll (talking wins, ignoring money).

You are underrating Jackson (and Sage) and overrating Favre. Plus Favre is the old man. If you were going to pick any one of the three possible QBs to fall apart at the end of the season it should be him, not the younger and relatively much more healthy ones.

Remember, Favre wasn't terribly effective from like 04-07. He had one decent comeback year with the Packers and was really really bad down the stretch last season.

I meant 7, I was including the game where he came in for like 2 plays.

no, i really don't think i am. i think favre probably isn't in the top 14 QBs in the league. and i think he's more likely to fall apart than either of the other two. it's just an upside thing. he at least has an outside chance to pull a good year out of nowhere, and if he doesn't , you just fall back on your backup. it's a freeroll.

i think you overrate TJ drastically. i don't know anything about sage but he seems like a replacement level player to me.

regardless of overrating/underrating, the vikes QB situation still sucks

it's like - what would you rather have, a pretty good chance of going 10-6 and losing in the first or second round and a 0% chance of winning the superbowl, or a pretty good chance of going 10-6 and losing in the first or second round but a 5% chance of winning the superbowl?
