I know. We might be playing some 4 guard lineups this year if the roster doesnt change.

You're probably not wrong, but I think he probably has zero trade value at best and his trade value might be negative. On the plus side, he does shoot and pass well, he is buddies with KAT, and most importantly, we got rid of Wiggins in the deal that brought him here, so he has all that going for him.

We made a trade for Ed Davis, a defensive big. I dont know if we plan on starting him or not. I dont know much about him. I looked him up on basketball reference. His WS/48 is very good, but his other numbers, especially his offensive numbers, look pretty bad.

Davis isn’t a star, or even a starter-level player necessarily, but he’s a really strong backup for a team who was desperate for a player like him.

So, what exactly are the Wolves getting in Davis? We’ll go more in-depth in him in the coming weeks, but the gist of it is that he’s a great rebounder and a good defender. For his career, Davis averages 12.0 rebounds per-36 minutes as well as 1.5 blocks per-36 minutes. In general, he’s been an +/- darling at every stop of his career. Davis has been on some good teams, and using single player net-rating is not super useful, but it’s at least worth mentioning that Davis’ teams have never had an on-court net-rating worse than +4. Additionally, Davis has played 10 seasons in the NBA and has not once had a season where he posted negative Offensive Win Shares, Defensive Win Shares, or (obviously) Win Shares. He’s an impactful, albeit unspectacular player.

Yup, no surprise here: D'Angelo Russell was WAY better in Brooklyn when he shared the floor with Ed Davis than when he didn't.

Russell + Davis on: +8.7 net rating (O: 109.6, D: 100.9)
Russell on, Davis off: -3.0 net rating (O: 108.5, D: 111.5)
It looks to me like Davis will help this team.

Ugly first preseason game. No beauty on offense, just dudes chucking up shots. Antman does not look like an elite athlete and looks kinda lost.

Agreed. Didn’t expect much more from the first preseason game though...most of these guys haven’t played anything resembling NBA basketball since March.

Still happy to have the Wolves back in my life.

Yeah. I'm pretty excited about the roster but the lack of structure and beauty made it a slog to watch. Made me a bit lower on Ryan as coach tbh.

Wolves offense features no ball movement nor player movement. 1 guy hunts his shot while the rest stand perfectly still, er, space.

Common man says it best: terrible team, with a terrible owner, with a terrible coach, with terrible players, playing in a terrible arena.

The team should move to Seattle. One year in 32 with a playoff series win. And by the looks of it, it could easily get to 40 years with one.

That looked 10000x better and i am excited for the season again. Take your time getting back, DLo. Make sure you're 100%. Then take a couple of extra days just to be sure.

If history is any indicator, I’m sure that’s exactly what DLo is thinking and exactly what DLo will do

I am shocked at how well Edwards comes across in his interviews so far. Pretty much all I heard pre-draft was about how egotistical he was and how he wasn’t really that into basketball.

I guess we’ll see, but so far I like the kid a lot.

Agree, i like him.

Surprised to see RHJ got cut given that he was the best PF in the preseason by miles. Layman got destroyed on defense and Juancho was maybe the worst player to ever wear an NBA uniform.

I have not seen much of the preseason, but yeah, Juancho is bad when he isnt taking wide open shots.

I'm not sure what the plan is, but maybe we're going to play mostly with 4 small guys and Towns. I hope the offense gets better than what I saw vs the Dallas starters or it is going to be a long season.

The bright side of the Dallas game is that our 11th - 15th best players looked a lot better than theirs. We have basically never in our history had guys on the end of the bench that were any good at all. Most of these guys look at least semi-competent or have good potential.

The Wolves beat a good team with defense!

And I am drawing particular joy from another team going through the whole “maybe this is Wiggins’ breakout year” crap and already understanding the horror. I was quite annoyed by the vibe I was getting from some media outlets WE were somehow the ones holding him back.

Culver-Edwards is gonna be a sick pairing for so long.

Towns is a defensive monster now.

Wolves doing some sexy passing out there. Ant had the best pass of the game!!

Layman hasn't scored yet and has 1 total rebound in 2 games starting as a 4.

Any suggestions on how to watch wolves game (besides having Comcast or Directv) I have YouTubeTV Who recently got rid of FSN.

Also, Edwards is looking legit. Because of his size and being a little more athletic, Ceiling could be a slightly better Donovan Mitchell maybe?

Edwards ceiling could be MVP imo. He looks like he is stronger and faster than everyone else on the floor and he is only 19. He grew an inch and put on 10 lbs in the past year. I didn't want to draft this guy because from what I had heard about him, he might be Wiggins 2.0. At the very least, its very obvious he's nothing at all like Wiggins. He has a great handle, tries on D and so far seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I think we should just start him beginning tonight and plant Juancho and Layman at the end of the bench.

This team has no PFs (aside from Okogie, lol - I told you guys he was going to play PF), yet we are very deep with good, playable players. Barring serious injuries, this could be a very fun team to watch for a long time.

Edwards is SO strong. I like our guys a lot and that along with a fun team is pretty much all I can reasonably ask for.

What do we think a reasonable comp for what Culver's ceiling is?

I dont know, but I think it depends largely on how good of a shooter he can be. He's pretty good at most everything else and he works hard. He could be very good.

Edwards' shot selection is really bad. Against Utah he overpowered guys and his shot went in. But they are all no-ball movement bad shots. So far he's missing everything against the Lakers.

And DLo for being like if Jeff Teague and Andrew Wiggins had a baby:

Spoiler:

We've got Towns who is super awesome and hurt, Beasley who has played with tons of heart and been great, Rubio who is still good, Culver and Ant who are promising youngs that suck for now, and then a bucket of AIDS.

We have no size, getting killed in the paint.

DLo is a ball stopper chucker that loves long 2s and plays ZERO defense.

I'm not sure that's true.

DLo + Ed Davis + Layman for Westbrook works in the trade machine. I'd absolutely do that. Saves the Wiz a ton of money and costs Glen a ton of money. Both positives.
