Defending either Taylor or Thibs is a leak. Franchise is a joke, always will be as long as either is associated with it.

As the Minnesota Timberwolves front office tells inquiring rivals that the franchise has no plans to trade All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, owner Glen Taylor had a different message for owners and executives at the NBA's board of governors meetings: Butler is available, and prospective suitors should contact Taylor himself should they struggle to make progress with general manager Scott Layden, sources told ESPN.
JFC Glen, just fire the guy. WOAT owner. This would be hilarious if it was happening to anyone else's team. What a shhtshow.

lol "has been made aware". Nobody was ever gonna fall for the 'we'll bring him back and WIN' negotiating tactic but now hopefully our POBO and GM can stop with that charade and answer the ****ing phone.

I dont think so. What I am hearing is typically when a GM is squeezing other teams by saying someone isnt going to be traded, he will still listen to what the caller is offering. Thibs is basically hanging up on people.

Hopefully our GM is fired today. But who are we kidding with that hope? This is Glen Taylor making that decision - he might be motivated to do something about Thibs after Butler and Towns are both gone and all we have is Wiggins and his bloated contract.

One year of playoffs followed by this. It can only happen to the Timberwolves.

It looks like the team has some leverage over Butler:

Taylor basically said, "If you don’t get anywhere with [Layden], and you’ve got something good, bring it to me," another high-ranking league official told ESPN.

yup, what a **** show.

He's not gonna get fined or anything because we don't want him showing up. Trade him, sign Towns, move on. ffs just get this era over with.

He has 30 days. I dont know, but I am guessing a trade will probably happen by then.

I'm hearing that Taylor is going to McHale and Jim Peterson for advice now. I dont mind that. I just hope he gets rid of Thibs and Layden very soon. We need a coach right away because Thibs cannot be trusted. Jim P would make a good NBA coach imo.

Well again, we gave him permission to not show up.

We are going to Kevin McHale, one of the worst GMs of all time, for advice here. Unreal. Jimmy and a first for Sebastian Telfair and Marko Jaric.

Talking to teams around the NBA, there is real confusion on what is happening in Minnesota. It’s unclear who exactly teams should be calling. Some think it’s Scott Layden, while others think it’s Tom Thibodeau. And some still believe its best to work through Glen Taylor.

Lots more teams interested, making offers now. PHI, DET (nothing to see there), POR, HOU, MIA.... We might get decent return in a deal.

Crazy stat: In clutch time, Jimmy had the ball a ****ing ton (42.7 usage), and only assisted Towns 3 times for the whole season. Two of those assists were in the first 5 games.

Anyone else watch the game last night? My observations:

- Wiggins is a lazy piece of ****. We should have never given him that huge deal and we should have traded him a long time ago.
- Towns' offensive game looks sharp and better than ever. He still gets lost on defense.
- D Rose is starting at SG. Ugh. Fire Thibs!
- Tolliver is not all that talented, but he has worked hard to make himself a very good 6th man. He generally plays smart and is deadly from beyond the 3 point arc now.
- Okogie's energy is fun to watch. He should get all of Wiggins' minutes until Wiggins decides to play with good effort. Okogie's defense is already very good.
- Bates-Diop seems like a guy who wont hurt you much - he has long arms and seems to generally know what he should be doing out there, but he isnt all that skilled.
- Deng looked fat, but he also looked like he still can contribute. He needs to get in better shape.
- CJ Williams got minutes ahead of Nunally. I'm not sure why. Williams doent look like he belongs in the NBA.

Overall, our starters looked a lot worse than GS's (same as the rest of the NBA), but our bench looked a lot better than theirs, which is encouraging.

We need to trade Butler for something good and fire Thibs.

Interesting discussion on Canis:
Quote:
He's (Wiggins is) on track to be the worst top pick all time

If you include the negative performance and contract.

Busts like Anthony Bennett just weren’t given the playing time to rack up the negative value Wiggins does.

And others, like Wiggins, where the teams refused to admit a mistake weren’t paid as much. Andrea Bargnani was given a bad contract, but not nearly as bad as Wiggins’s.
Quote:
I was going to say wait a minute, as bad as Wiggins is, there are worse top picks...

…but if you look at cumulative stats and add in the cost of the max contract, well, you may be right.

I did a search on BBref for players with less than -1 VORP for their career, but who had started more than 300 games (sorry, I didn’t see a way to search by draft position). Here are the 10 worst in order of career WS/48:

1 Michael Olowokandi .009

2 DeShawn Stevenson .032
3 Trenton Hassell .041
4 Andrew Wiggins .050
5 Doug West .051

6 Bryant Reeves .052
7 Desmond Mason .056
8 Rory Sparrow .060
9 Greg Anderson .064
10 Larry Drew .064

I still think Wiggins will need to play badly for a lot longer to match Olowakandi’s negative contributions on the basketball court, but at least The Small O didn’t get paid a max contract.
We have had a lot of the very worst NBA players ever play here.

So much going on right now, I dont know where to start, but here's as good a place as any:

4 days after the season was over, Thibs talked to Butler. Butler apparently requested a trade at that time. The two talked and exchanged texts several times afterwards. Each time, Butler apparently said he wanted to be traded. It just didnt become public until a week before training camp.

Fast forward to yesterday:

Butler told Thibs basically that there would be a **** show if he came to practice. Thibs told him to come anyway.

Thibs never mentioned to Towns or Towns' agent that Butler would be there. Butler proceeded to do everything he could to embarrass Towns during the practice. Towns' agent apparently represents half of the stars in the NBA. Do you think that any of them would ever want to play for Thibs again after this?

How does Thibs still have a job after all this?

Here’s what I’m reasonably sure of: Butler and Thibs are gone. Unless KAT and Leon Rose do a 180 within the next 24 hours it’s only a question of when and how. That being said, this is still the Timberwolves and Glen could try rolling with the status quo because he doesn’t have access to the type of personnel that would make a change worthwhile. Also, they have a game tomorrow night and the 2 of 3 main assistants are Thibs guys who either may not want to stick around. All 4 main assistants (those two plus Ryan and John Lucas III) aren’t going to be considered for any long term head coaching position so they may not want to take a very short interim job. I know they’ve been making a **** ton of calls and the speculation as to why there isn’t a public response is because logistically they have zero time to make a change and holy crap they have a game tomorrow night.

Now, all of this is being presented by people who aren’t in the main room. From what I’ve been told that room containsTaylor, Thibs, Layden, Croom, and the CEO Casson making the main decisions. My guess is based on what I’ve been told about what office personnel are able to see in terms of who is asked to be, say, reassuring Lizhang Jiang and Terri Popp that things are going to be ok or to find the contact information for this, that, or the other organization.
