JTM, you're contradicting yourself like crazy. You talked about being capped out in 2 years but then mention Gibson and Crawford.. who only have 2 year deals. You also would rather have Gorgui than Taj even though Taj will be off the books 2 years from now and Gorgui will still be on the books.

I actually agree with some of your criticisms, but you can't have it both ways.

Really happy with this offseason overall think Thibs has done a great job

Will be competitive next couple of seasons and we didn't have to lock up any big money beyond the next 3 seasons when KAT and Wiggins are hitting their prime.

I agree with this. After Butler the moves weren't as good as getting him but I don't think any were just bad and that's the most important thing. The team pieces fit together better now most likely and even though the bench is thin, I don't think they'll end up with someone unhappy who they then have to ship for nothing.

Yeah, I think the offseason just because of Butler was a huge win. I think I said it in here but I was more than ok standing pat and rolling with Rubio/Lavine/Wiggins/Towns for another year, but looking at it in retrospect I like this move more.

We got a star and a good enough team to playoff with for the next 2-3 years. Gives Wiggs and Towns time to play with legitimately good players and improve faster(wiggins going against butler is huge imo). This is also basically a 2-3 year audition for free agents when we can potentially blow up the team in 2-3 years and start over with Wiggins and Towns' max deals. Mn has never been a FA destination spot, but if we playoff for 2-3 years and Towns/Wiggins develop into what their ceilings can be, then it will be one and we'll have competitive basketball(potentially) for the next 8-10 years, 2-3 years ahead of schedule.

I'm gonna miss Rubio though and would not be surprised if Lavine turns into a really good starter.

Every move after the butler trade was pretty meh though.

Yeah post Butler moves didn't really move the needle for me either but I'm mostly just happy we aren't compromising the future (2019+) and signing black hole contracts trying to peak now

I do think playoff experience and winning in general is very underrated and that's why I like the additions of Teague/craw/Gibson

Where am i not making sense?

Towns + Wiggins + Butler cap hold ~85% of the cap, assuming Towns and Wiggins get maxed and Towns qualifies for the Rose rule. Assuming we have zero other players on the roster, we'll have ~15% of the cap to fill out 5-6 rotation spots. i.e. we will have nothing to show for all the cap space we had this one offseason and the roster will be getting worse.

We won't even be able to pool it together and sign one guy because 10 cap holds add up to ~7% of the cap.

Because Taj and Crawford have nothing to do with that eventuality.

We chose to sign them instead of people that could still be playing and thus we would have early Bird rights to.

That was dumb, is what i'm saying.

ETA: We'll be capped out in 2 years (unless Butler and Teague split which is already a disaster). We'll be able to go over the cap to re-sign our own guys. This offseason, the last with cap space, was our chance to add guys worthy of re-signing in 2 years.

Wolves have a total of $1.8M of cap space above the minimum roster holds.

KP's win projections have the Wolves 4th in the west and 4th in the NBA with 50.1 wins this season:

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...2017-18-season

Quote:
4. Minnesota Timberwolves
Projected wins: 50.1

Statistical projections have been known to overrate the Timberwolves by betting on the come, including last season's seemingly conservative 37-win projection from RPM. (Minnesota won just 31 games, albeit with the point differential of a 38-win team.) With Jimmy Butler joining budding stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, this time feels different. RPM doesn't even project the Timberwolves to defend particularly well (20th in defensive rating); this projection is largely a testament to the league's second-best offensive projection.

Our wing bench isn't total aids now, just kinda aids.

Would you say it's only HIV now? Cuz that's very treatable, just look at Magic Johnson!

1st half of first preseason game takes:

-Teague looks excellent
-Crawford is done
-We're gonna see a TON of wing postups with Butler, Wiggins, and Bazz

I feel like we'd be in trouble without Bazz on a min. Crawford is so done. He has no balance which is the telltale sign of it being over.

I didnt see the game, but your takes are fairly consistent with what I have read at Canis.

Wiggins looked pretty great. The team looked discombobulated and fat. Maybe should have played another preseason game or two.

Yeah offense just didn't look that good overall tbh. Was a bit shocked to see Crawford/Tyus in down the stretch. Just don't see why you would want a ball stopper like Crawford in the game in crunch time.

Bjelica looked good, Wiggins looked good, everyone else was meh.

Gorgui sucked ass. Taj was not great. The Spurs are one of the few teams that plays 2 bigs, and we got killed inside.

We're spending $30M on Taj on Gorgui.
