Re: Minnesota Timberwolves - Kahn't get enough Love

I watched most of the game and I really would like to see them force feed Beasley when they are having a hard time scoring. The droughts they had on offense it seems to me can be avoided by doing this. Although maybe he wasn't in for some of them, I wasn't keeping track the whole time (FF through some of the game as it was late when I got around to watching).

Btw, how good is Love? He's putting up silly numbers but they don't win. Shouldn't you win when you have a guy going 20/20 on a consistent basis?!?!? Is Love just good in a way that interferes with the rest of the team or is their supporting cast just that bad still?

Was there last night. Will be there again on Friday.

We sucked at free throws and getting fouls called- Love is brutally raped every single time he gets the ball down low and gets no calls. Gross

Re: Minnesota Timberwolves - Kahn't get enough Love

yeah the missed FTs killed us.

Love does a lot of things really well - rebounds better than anyone, shoots with range well, very good passer.

But, he is a poor defender - he frequently wont follow his man out to contest a short midrange shot because it looks like he'd rather stay under the basket in hopes of grabbing another board. He also falls asleep on defense sometimes leading to easy inside shots for his man.

On offense, he cannot create his own shot. He cant jump very high, so when he gets those offensive rebounds right under the basket and tries to shoot when he's surrounded by three defenders, he gets stuffed a lot. He acts like he gets fouled every time this happens, and sometimes he does, but most of the time he doesn't. He needs to recognize when he's going to get stuffed & pass the ball out of those spots.

Love has a chance to be a great player and probably an all star at some point, maybe even this year, but he doesn't have the ability to be the go-to scorer on an NBA team.

ya, i was saying that last night- put him with the heat and wow, game over. but he needs another real person or two around him in MN who can contribute consistently. Looks like MB is that some nights, other he has no clue. Hopefully Webster + Flynn (and taking minutes from Telfair) makes us all better.

Re: Minnesota Timberwolves - Kahn't get enough Love

Cha,

With Love I've also noticed he seems to sometimes focus a bit too much on positioning for rebounds when really he needs to hustle his ass out on D. Part of it is that he has to hedge b/c he has limited athleticism. And, I think he'll get much better and smarter at it.

For instance (and I'll make it clear this time I'm not comparing his overall game here, hopefully that's obvious) Steve Nash is not good at D, but he should be much worse. He hedges a ton (on steals, on getting posted up, on everything) and gets away with it b/c he has such a high bball IQ and picks his spots. Fundamentally, Love is probably going to have to do these things and he hopefully knows this and will get better at it as talked about when mentioning he needs to know when to pass out and when to go up for the layup. One reason I think his hedging is so off right now is that he's made such a big results improvement in his rebounding game and offensive game in a quick period of time so now he has to get comfortable tweaking it. Someone who never figured it out was Wally - he just never figured out how to (or didn't try to) hide his limitations well until it was too late, so hopefully Love doesn't have that issue.

Beasley is going to have to do this the most, tweaking and learn to do it throughout a possession even as his game is sooooo wide-open. He is a swiss army knife but still doesn't pull out the right tool at the right time (and the wolves don't help with this given the often discombobulated offense they run without Darko). At least Love only has to figure out when to pull out his 4 tools rather than the 20 Beasley has.

"With Love I've also noticed he seems to sometimes focus a bit too much on positioning for rebounds when really he needs to hustle his ass out on D. " yeah, that's part of the kind of stuff I meant in my last post. I think you might be right, at least I hope so - that he'll get better at doing this the right way.

I think Love's BBIQ and overall IQ are good.

Wally was a knucklehead. I compare the Wally defense kind of to the way Brewer plays defense - they leave their man - a good/great shooter - to help out someone else on D or go for a steal, leaving their guy wide open for easy baskets. They're always late rotating back to their man. And they keep doing it over & over EVERY GAME!! Its just stupid.

Beasley has a lot of skills and he's very young. I hope he figures out how to put them to good use eventually. I dont get the feeling Beasley's a knucklehead like Flynn (I think of him this way too), Wally & Brewer are, but he could be. That would suck.

He's very good despite being terrible defensively.

It must still be the new team cohesion issue, but in bursts they look competitive, and then all of a sudden they look completely lost on both ends of the court. They had some awful calls and no-calls go against them in the OKC game imo, on top of shooting themselves in the foot.

IMO it will be much better.

Flynn needs to take a good step forward to become the starter imo, and after his hip surgery it looks like he'll be no. 2 for a while which is good.

Martell will be really nice to have back. Hopefully if he's healthy he'll take almost all of brewer's minutes. I was excited in the beginning of preseason and he looked to be a very nice addition to the team. I think that, when healthy, Martell will probably be our starting 2 but idk how long that will take, plus Wes is showing improvement at the 2 so they might keep him there.

If all goes well, those are two very nice additions to the team. Having their minutes over bassy's and Brewer's is going to make us much more competitive imo.

Darko is a game time decision tonight. Webster is not cleared to play in back to back games yet, so if he plays tonight, he wont play tomorrow.

Re: Minnesota Timberwolves - Kahn't get enough Love

Good game tonight.

Love 27/18 yawn, another day at the office. If he keeps putting up numbers like this, they're going to have to find a spot for him on the all star team this year.

Darko is an elite defender - 7 blocks tonight and a whole bunch more altered shots. He's reminding me of Hakeem's defense the more I watch him.

We started out pretty slow due to sloppy passing and sluggish defense & no rebounding for about the first half of the first quarter, but after that we looked mostly solid, and were obviously the better team - by far.

Brewer actually played ok tonight mostly. He still made a few head scratching mistakes and left Hamilton open too many times, but he actually contributed positively tonight overall.

Webster didnt play I havent heard what his status is yet.

Bassy is awful. I want Flynn back playing soon.

edit - from ESPN:
Rambis said swingman Martell Webster (back) will practice on Sunday and Monday and play his first game of the season Tuesday at Golden State if all goes well. ... Minnesota PG Jonny Flynn (hip) started his second rehab stint with Sioux Falls of the D-League. The plan was for him to play Friday night and Saturday night and rejoin the team for its West Coast trip next week.

It's funny b/c I kept shouting (drunk from white russians) at Love to get more rebounds then they say "Love, with 15 rebounds" and I'm like, "oh....right." He's just so sick at getting in position for them that he almost gets another 5 or so a game. So, so, sick. I think he needs to get voted in even if he doesn't keep putting up silly #s.

One thing we didn't really notice was Brewer having lapses on defense. I felt that Rip got free on some screens...but. I mean, that's what he does. And yeah, the pg play was not that great again with some lazy passes. One other thing I keep noticing is the Twolves seem to travel way too often when they start their moves from the perimeter. Seems brewer and beasley do this like once a game. It's really unforgivable. It's not like they get carried away on a tough drive, they just catch a pass and hop or go off the wrong pivot foot.

Anyway, with Darko playing a full game they really look like a second tier worst team. Exciting!

Brewer is so terrible on offense. He seems clueless whenever he gets the ball. Once Webster and Flynn come back this team might actually be half-decent.

Who here lives in Minnesota? This blizzard is ridiculous.

Re: Minnesota Timberwolves - Kahn't get enough Love

I didn't get drunk on white russians until after the game, because we were at the game again. Awesome for Frodo to go off like this- the crowd was really pumped for Luke's good game. In fact, everyone played pretty well last night, and against a **** team we should win like we did.

The Wolves are actually surprising me this year- we're playing well (even when we lose it's close) and we're kind of a fun team to watch- lots of boards for K-Love, the Darko Block Party, and we have a lot of athletes, I mean, it felt like there were 25 dunks last night for the Wolves. Sick nasty, yo!

Love when they do the Godfather thing when the big man scores, lol.

lol yeah, Pek makes a good godfather

Ugliness tonight. I didnt watch. I just read the recap on ESPN. Rose was hitting 3s all night apparently, like way more than he would usually. Sounds like our defense was sluggish. Again, we have to do better at defending the 3 if we're going to win many games.

so who is looking good in the draft? It's hard to pinpoint our biggest need. We have Brewer, so the backcourt is set for a while. obv don't need a pf/c, and beasley is goat sf, so i think we should draft rubio's grandmother so he'll get his scrawny white ass over here. It's could be hard to win with 3.5 white dudes starting, though.

also, we shouldnt draft for need at all, imo. We should take whoever we think will be the best player. Back in the 80s, Portland had an all star SG (Clyde Drexler) so they drafted Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan, lol. If a guy can play basketball, you figure out how to get him PT with your other 4 best players imo.
