I just saw a stat - over the past three seasons, on non-left corner threes, he's shot 19.5%. And he still jacks up a lot of them. He was under 30% on 3s overall last season, taking 3.7 per game. He'd be a fine ~$2.5 mil a year backup. Now we have him for 3 years at double that price. We way overpaid. That's the problem.

We've now spent $10mil on two backup SFs while happily watching AK leave for the same money, and he would have probably come back for ~3/21m.
He did jack up too many 3's from other spots but I have faith that Adelman will be able to control him and stick him in the corners.

Solid role players aren't available to teams like Minnesota for $2.5 mil.

Did AK just sign w the Nets for $3.1m? Wtf? Didn't he turn down a $10m player option here, and then takes 3.1? It looks like he does get a player option for the following season though. Does anyone know how much his player option is going to be for?

AK getting paid under the table for sure.

According to that interview he wanted: Long term deal (2 yrs), money (3.1M), and a prominent role (coming off the bench). Either he's getting tons under the table or the Russian mob is holding his family in an undisclosed location.

Yeah, I don't think we can underestimate his prior relationship with Prokhorov. They must know each other "well" from AK playing there 3 years before the NBA and taking that 1 year break there from the NBA. I mean, that was probably his backup plan or possibly even *the* plan all along. This way he probably gets like 20 million US$ in rubles or even US $ tax-free and just keeps signing for the mini-midlevel until he gets hurt and retires. Russia is corrupt as hell so I can't imagine making that happen over there is difficult whatsoever for Prokhorov.

Johnny Flynn was a summer league star.

Rivers is quite bad though. I don't think anyone in the big 2p2 NBA threads even thinks he'll ever be a valuable NBA palyer.

Btw, it may be there wasn't much that could have been done about AK - that smells to me like the reason he changed his mind about the opt-out is b/c Prokhorov made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Putting any stock into Summer League performances is just silly.

Randy Foye won SL MVP 1 year iirc

Johnny Flynn was a summer league star too, but if a guy sucks in summer league, maybe that says something.

I went to the Wolves game today.

Shabust cant play. Period. He is really bad. His contract will soon be an albatross. Mark this post Halstad - I know you like going back to my old posts. He made a couple wide open shots and a dunk, but missed a lot more than he made, and took a lot of terrible shots, including a few that got easily blocked. He wont be able to do anything vs any half-interested NBA defenders. And he doesnt do anything else beside chuck up mostly bad shots. Bonus - we tried to iso him when we had the ball with the score tied & ~7-8 seconds left. He made a bad TO and PHO won the game on a shot at the buzzer.

Dieng is not ready for the NBA. I was surprised he didnt start. Then I was more surprised he wasnt the first C off the bench, but when I saw him play, I understood why. He's a foul machine. He looks like a shorter, less polished H Thabeet to me; although he does try hard and I could see him possibly being productive in a few years. But we should not expect anything from Dieng this season.

C Johnson is probably our best player in this, but he's way to skinny to play many minutes at C. The dude needs to eat a few cows and do squats 3X a week for like a year. Judging from what he looks like now, he just doesnt like to eat food.

idk what else to take out of what I saw because it is just summer league, but Hummel looked like he could maybe, possibly be a productive player. He can shoot and seems to have a clue of what's going on out there. Its possible he isnt athletic enough to play in the NBA though.

L Brown seems to know how to play, but he cant shoot worth ****. He's probably the best player we drafted this season.

Some of these other Gs & SFs who arent likely to make the team can shoot 3s better than our whole team from last year

believe it or not, but I never bookmark posts, but my memory is pretty good. So if Shabazz ends up starting in the ASG I'll remember you made this post.

Ben Mclemore went 4-23 in his first game, should we call him a bust too?

I'd be happy if Shabazz becomes a rotation player but to deem him a complete bust after 2 summer league games is a serious overreaction.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until he gets some actual coaching after spending a wasted year at UCLA with Ben Howland.

The Summer League is set up for 3-4 year college stars to come in and dominate against fringe players and overmatched 19-20 year olds.

Halstad - So you'll conveniently forget it when he shows most of the worst qualities of Beasley, Wes & Flynn rolled into one?

The Wolves final possession with the score tied yesterday:

Probably too early for him to be called a bust since he displayed some shooting ability in college.

The overmatched 19-20 year olds and fringe players dominated Shabust yesterday. He has less chance of succeeding than Flynn & Wes had imo. I'm basing that not just on what I saw yesterday. What I saw yesterday confirmed everything I knew about him previously. Just watch - you will see what happens. Or not, because I don't think he's going to play much unless we have as many injuries as last year.

Lost in the Shabazz obsession during these summer games...

is how miserable our other 1st rounder has looked. Positive summer league play may not matter much, but it does seem like the track-record of guys who struggled in summer league contributing as rookies is pretty bad. The fact that many of us were actually counting on Dieng contributing as a third big (including Flip given the roster construction) makes his performance a big deal… much more important than Bazz’ inability to stay on his feet in crunch time, and Y-league skillset in transition.

If Dieng doesn’t warrant playtime this season, we suddenly look pretty thin up front. Really the only options would be giving Ronny tons of minutes, or making Love spend half his time at center.

I don't get this, almost everyone expects him to be bad. You're just setting yourself up to make yourself look very silly if he ends up decent by hammering this point over and over again.
