Yeah, and if Dwight signs with Hou, Asik will be out there for cheap. Plus Big Al probably gets more attention. Here's hoping Pek comes cheap. Looking good so far.

How long do teams have to sign Pek? if no one signs him then what?

I think free agency goes through september. If nobody makes him an offer (unlikely) he can still take our $6M qualifying offer. That's guaranteed.

~ the end of September. We'll sign him before then I think/hope. The longer it takes, the more nervous I am.

Incompetence:

Quote:
Former (note article date is 6/8/2012) NBA coach Flip Saunders recently worked out Rivers and said he was as talented as shooting guard he worked out over the last 15 years. Saunders loved Rivers’ quickness, first step, shooting ability and work ethic, likening him to Golden State Warriors rookie guard Klay Thompson.

“If I was a team in the top 10, he’s a kid I would be zeroing in on because he has the ability to score,” Saunders said. “Maybe I’m partial, but I’ve always said coach’s kids who have had dads who have been in the NBA, a lot of times know what it takes. They’re not intimidated by situations. They know how hard you have to work and usually have more respect for the game.”

In case you weren't aware how bad Rivers is: http://www.basketball-reference.com/...riverau01.html

vjl and the boys at Canis predicted that type of *cough* production from Rivers prior to last year's draft.

Trade proposal someone floated that I like:

OKC sign & trade KMart (~$7-8mil) to us, we give them Rindover & Steamer, they keep Ridnover (~$4.3mil) & cut Steamer (team option for ~$2.7mil). We likely have to give up other considerations, but I'm fine with that.

OKC gets a backup PG that can shoot and a little cap relief. We get a starting SG and it leaves us more money to sign other FAs.

oj mayo seems like hes going to clippers from what im hearing

sign n trade for eric bledsoe to the mavs for mayo .. grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

twolves better go after reddick or gary neal hard!!!... if we go without a 2guard this year it just wont end well!!!

p.s i dont see okc giving up k.mart, he was a key piece in the james harden trade & hes a big part of okc rotation, i dont see why he wouldn't be happy over there

I found out that OKC cant pay much more than the league minimum for KMart without it putting them over the cap, and they will not do that. They have something like $2.x mil under the cap and they need to use that for two players or they wont have the league minimum number of players on their roster.

With that in mind, they cant do a sign & trade and take any salary back unless they're dumping other contracts.

Rumors blog on espn.

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently have just one shooting guard and one small forward under contract and they reportedly have offers on the table to add depth at both positions.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Wolves have tendered Chase Budinger and J.J. Redick four-year contracts. The Wolves are likely offering Redick a first year salary around $6 million, while Budinger's could be in the $3 million range.

Redick has said on a few occasions that money is a factor, however playing for a contender is more important, which could knock out the Wolves.

Budinger likes Minnesota, especially head coach Rick Adelman, which leads most to think he'll re-sign.

The Wolves are also checking out Kevin Martin and he might be next on the board if they miss out on Redick.

meh. I dont trust Woj. If hes right and if those two guys sign for those amounts, I guess that's fine. It seems like a discount on Bud and overpaying Redick, but together I guess its a wash. We'll see what happens.

Assuming we dont re-sign AK, Aminu is a pretty good we could probably get for cheap to play 3.

Nothing extravagant, but the #Twolves have exchanged text messages with the AK camp, per a source.

Spurs' interest in Kirilenko serious
By Marc Stein | July 2, 11:10 a.m. ET

San Antonio is facing a fair bit of financial uncertainty in these early days of free agency, not knowing what sort of market restricted free agent Tiago Splitter will command and openly hoping to re-sign Spurs stalwart Manu Ginobili at a greatly reduced rate from last season's $13 million salary.

But sources close to the situation tell ESPN.com that the Spurs are seriously interested in free-agent forward Andrei Kirilenko now that AK-47 has opted out of next season's $10 million contract with Minnesota.

Would the Spurs be willing to let Splitter go and use the resultant financial flexibility to replace him with, say, Kirilenko and a bargain big man like Greg Oden? Interesting concept.

The Trail Blazers are expected to extend a "massive" offer to Nikola Pekovic, according to Kyler. After acquiring Thomas Robinson, Portland won't have the necessary cap room to make a huge offer, but perhaps the team has another move in mind to clear some space.

On Mayo:

Mavs looking for more defense from O.J. Mayo

Quote:
OJ Mayo's defense is notably weak according to Rick Carlisle

Mayo is saying the right things today but will need to show more on the court. He has all requisite tools to be a strong defender — good size, length, and athleticism — but hasn’t yet put it together to really make a difference on that end of the floor. In fact, over the course of his career, he’s been a net negative on D from a team perspective while posting individual defensive numbers that were not up to standard (Synergy ranks him as the 370th best defender overall in terms of points allowed per play).

Yup...

he is a terrible defender. Worse against 2-guards than Ridnour.

Quote:
What about you, personally? What are you working on this summer?

RUBIO: I’ve been playing in the NBA for two years already, but I haven’t showed anything yet, anything that I want to show. I think I can play here, but what I’m really disappointed is with what happened to my team, and I feel guilty that we haven’t been in the playoffs, or even fighting for the playoffs the last 10 games — we’ve always been out of the playoffs before April. So I want to improve and I want to step up my game. First of all I want to get stronger, especially in the legs and the lower body, because that’s going to help me to fight every night with the best point guards in the league. Actually, if you see what’s coming, the best players are point guards, so every night is going to be a challenge. I think for me and for the team, what is best is to get stronger in the legs, be ready to fight every night, and take a little more leadership.

Sounds good - I hope you're right. I think he'd fit in great as a starting 4 there:

Duncan
AK
Leonard
Green
Parker

I dont think Miami would want to face that team in the finals.

webster got 22mill hahahahah i swear, i mean he did improve though so ill give him that

& again cha you have just no faith in bazz??, u want us to sign bud + another s.f?.... i think twolves gotta work with what they have & not load up when we have talent at certain positions already.... d.williams can play some 3 + bazz gonna be a combo 2-3, if not only a 3 or 2 depending i guess what he shows on the nba level & in training camp

btw i really hope that rubio is serious about what hes saying about working out cause i mean for such a big guy hes quite small/skinny.... 6'4 with a 6'9 wingspan & only 190lbs is abit concerning... but no lie his jump shot is what he needs to work on more than anything else

p.s if im spurs no way im re-signing splitter + manu... both guys just were not playable in the finals & that's where you want to get back to, both guys need to go imo....

^^^ looks like spurs officially out of the ak47 run, he probably gonna be back on the wolves.... buddinger might be the odd man out

but yea dont know why spurs paying splitter 4years 36mill, seems so bad... parker getting like 12mill a year no?... just dont get that deal... but good for the wolves
