Technically, he's probably not a top 5 C yet. Sample size and all. I am very much looking forward to Adelman having an entire offseason and preseason to think about how to maximize Pek's strengths in the offense though. He will be top 5 shortly imo.

Supposedly the deal being worked on now is:

MIN gets Batum
POR gets two 1st rounders from Wolves, one of which may have protections and Korver
CHI gets a 2nd rounder from Wolves and cap relief, may get an expiring too.

It seems like a high price but Kahn hasn't done well with high first rounders anyway. Plus it ensures that Wes never sees the floor given what our wings would look like.

There is speculation over at Canis that Olshey is good with a deal of that nature however Paul Allen is throwing a hissy fit about losing Batum. He has been pissed since they agreed to the offer sheet.

it seems ridiculous to give up that much just to sign batum to a bad contract. i mean chances are fair that they get him anyway if they just stand pat, right?

I thought the point of overpaying was so they don't match. Now we're gonna overpay and trade assets?

Perhaps. The Batum thing ends one of four ways:

1) A S&T as discussed.

2) Wolves sign to offer sheet and POR matches. If this happens, Batum cannot be traded to MIN for the duration of his contract, whatever it may be. Ever. For anything per the rules of the new CBA.

3) Wolves sign to offer sheet and POR doesn't match. With this we just pay the contract.

4) Wolves walk away and pursue other options. POR would of course then sign Batum. Batum could sign a one year QO and then be unrestricted next year but he would be risking a TON of financial stability with a cheap one year deal in the hopes of pursuing big $$$ next summer. There is also injury risk.

Personally I am starting to think POR doesn't want to match. They have been so forceful in saying they will it sounds like a ploy. Kind of like when Jamie Gold used to be so forceful in telling people he had a hand at the WSOP and he was bluffing.

Paul Allen can suck a bag of turds imo.

Low 1st round picks don't have a lot of value. Look at what the Lakers have done with their 1st rounders over the years - they end up selling a lot of them and throwing others around in trades. As long as we will be a 45 - 50 win team (I think that's a reasonable number with this roster), these picks are not worth much. That being said, I hope we move on soon if POR doesn't take that offer. And I won't be disappointed if they don't. Let's make the cap space, sign Batum to the offer, and see what POR does. **** Paul Allen. If he wants to keep Batum for that price, let him. There are lots of other things we can do that will help the team right now (trade for Iggy, sign C Lee, etc.)

Wolves to amnesty Darko Milicic

regarding maximizing pek offensive game

1. let rubio run the offense n not run two point guards in ridnour or barrea cause they still think they are the primary ball handlers when they on the court with rubio

2. stop giving the ball solely to kevin love and making him shoot from long distance, hes the best rebounder in the damn game & also this team does not want to turn into the lakers or knicks with a bunch of iso plays cause it hurts us

3. give pek the ball in the paint

4. give pek the ball in the paint

hahaah... but seriously though i wana see love on the boards more & hopefully the swings can now slash and shoot and rubio being the primary ball handler and wolves in the playoffs....

Wolves officially amnesty Darko

Batum officially signs our offer sheet.

I'm glad. I prefer that to the trades being bandied about.

Have we actually signed Brandon Roy or are we waiting for the whole Batum thing to get figured out first?

Roy isn't signed yet. We have to wait for the batum thing to get sorted before doing anything.

Also, it seems that Batum has signed the offer sheet, but the Wolves haven't sent it in to the NBA yet, so a s-n-t is still an option. Wolves threatening to send it in to the leauge office by end of business today to make it official. lol.

I'm all on board for Batum but trading away picks seems crazy. POR either wants him or they don't. Now that Hibbert didn't sign they are prob in rebuilding mode and the last thing they want is 12 mill a year for 1 player on .500 team with no shot of contending. If Kahn gets pimped into a SnT I would be really disappointed but not surprised at all.

Also I think it's best for all Minnesotans to expect Roy to be complete dog food and any minutes he gives us be a bonus, rather than expect the old B Roy. Dude has 2 wooden knees, just getting a team to sign him is impressive on its own.

I don't like giving up things to overpay Batum either, but here are our draft picks the last decade at 20 and above:

Robbie Hummel
Lazar Hayward
Henk Norel
Nick Calathes
Wayne Ellington
Mario Chalmers
Pek
Chris Richard
Loukas Mavrokefalidis
Bobby Jones
Craig Smith
Bracey Wright
Blake Stepp
Rick Rickert
Ndudi Ebi

Let's not convince ourselves that we're giving away something we're not.

Cliffs:
-Portland knew Webster was injured before they trading him to us but did not disclose the injury
-Roy's contract was covered by insurance but now that we signed him the insurance is void and Allen has to pay the $49M
-For some reason we're trying to both greatly overpay and trade assets for Batum

Damn, is that Webster injury thing standard practice? Or is that a pretty dirty play?

I thought Portland amnestied Roy or something, or am I wrong there? That doesn't sound right that they still have to pay him that much.

Agree on the Batum deal, seems like way too much for a role-type of player.

When you amnesty a guy you still have to pay his contract. He just doesn't count against the cap anymore.

Don't believe national media reports of what is being offered for Batum imo. These people are trying to create news, not report what's actually going on. I would be shocked if there is a S & T at this point. Look for the offer sheet to be signed & sent to the league today. I think there's a high probability POR will match.

re the Roy money thing - insurance would have paid POR something like $17 mil if he had stayed retired. Since he's coming back to play now, that policy is void. lol Paul Allen.

Serves them right for what they did to us with that Webster deal - there ought to be some kind of penalty for them and award for us because of the injury. If they match Batum's offer, at least we forced them to pay more than they wanted for him, plus we cost their owner $17 mil for Roy too.

Hopefully after this Batum thing is over, we end up with something like C Lee, Shved, Roy & Steimsma. Those guys, along with adding Budinger, losing Beasley, Darko & AR, (and hopefully still Wes) would be a massive upgrade to this team.

I hear Iggy is not really on our radar anymore. It sounds like he has an opt out clause in his contract after this season that he intends to exercise so he can go play superfriends or something. So he would be a one year rental at best.

This seems stupid that the media and people ITT are trying to play this off as Wolves are costing Allen money by signing Roy, because Roy was going to sign with some team so Allen was going to have to pay regardless.

Was he ever on our radar or was this something the Canis cult wanted? Seems pretty stupid that he ever should have been on our radar.
