And I do like Rosas so far. As hopeless as the Wolves roster was at the start of the off season, he at least seems like he is trying to shake things up.

Yes, DAngelo hasnt had a great career. Even by some metrics, last years numbers arent as good as advertised. Hes probably a fringe top 50 player. HOWEVER would I rather have him over Standrew, both on similar deals, 100 out of 100 times. And Id bet most people would agree.
No doubt about it. But it sounds kind of like we can unload Standrew and his albatross contract without giving up much and without taking a lot of other bad contracts back, so I think its only a matter of when that happens. There was a real possibility that we could have replaced the worst contract in NBA history with another very bad one if Russell turns out to be something less than he was last year. Russell got ~$29m/year, didnt he? I was comfortable if we paid more like $20m, but $29m?? meh. We'll see how well he does with GS, but I'm not that sad about any of this right now. I am happy that we seem to have a very smart guy in charge of making these decisions now.

I dont think he's anywhere near finished yet.

The smart people at Canis seem to like the little moves he's made so far too - picking up Napier (avg backup PG on a decent contract) for nothing and signing J Bell (decent prospect) for $1.6m.

If true, than fine. But I feel that is a HUGE if.

Apparently Rosas held Wiggins daughter and talked about being a family and committing to one another. Seems kinda scummy but now Krawcynski is reporting that no attempt to trade Wiggins was ever made. Trading Teague would have made more sense any way i guess and i hate watching Teague play so yeah. DAR would have been a terrible max and a roster with max Wiggins and max DAR would have been ugly.

If that is true, I'm not as high on Rosas as I was. It could be a smokescreen though. I have been reading other things indicated we did have at least one and possibly a few teams willing to take Wiggins in trades that would be neutral for us (no bad contracts and us not giving up additional assets). Maybe Rosas knows that we could go into the season with Standrew still on the team and he doesnt want Wiggins to know that he really was trying to trade him.

N Vonleh looks like a nice value signing. I think we gave him 1 year $2m. He's a good defending PF who rebounds like crazy and is starting to improve at 3 point shooting. He turned down a 2 year deal with a team option for the 3rd year because he wants to prove himself. He came here despite having offers from other teams because we made him feel like he would get more playing time. Guys in this situation are valuable to have on the team. We didnt lose much cap space and he could either start or be a regular bench rotation guy.

There are a handful of mid-level exception guys out there who could help us as well. I think final rosters are set sometime in October. It will be interesting to see what else happens.

Any chance OKC takes Wiggins and draft picks for Westbrook? Saw something where Wiggins, Teague, and a 1st for Westbrook could work. Pair him and KAT and we may have something.

You wanna pay Westbrook $47M in 4 years?

Saw something similar on the trade machine and it resulted in minus wins for both teams lol.

Almost every Wiggins game that I've seen where he's actually been good has been against OKC. Maybe that's the key. I actually really like Westbrook despite his shortcomings.

We have to pay Wiggins $33m in 4 years. Would you rather be punched in the nuts or kicked in the nuts?

I saw something second-hand from some supposedly knowledgeable national NBA writer that said trading Wiggins for Westbrook would be a trade the Wolves would turn down. I'm not sure why. Westbrook is overpaid and getting old, but at least he plays hard and is good at basketball.

Miami seems to really want Westbrook. I havent heard any rumblings that we're involved, but it wouldnt surprise me if we are. Getting Westbrook and ridding this team of Wiggins would make the Wolves a lot more fun. I have no idea what it would actually take to get him in a trade though, and his contract is hideous (but less so than Wiggins').

We signed another backup PG. This move appears to signal two things:
1 - We arent going to match the MEM offer for Tyus because that would now put us over the luxury tax.

2 - It appears that Rosas has bigger things in mind coming soon. Having all these end-of-the-roster guys making near league-minimum salaries makes it easier to match salaries when you make big trades.

Godspeed Tyus.

Kinda sad that we're obviously punting this upcoming season. OTOH that's too much for a backup PG so probably correct to not match.

Like Tyus, but unless you think he was going to be a starting or one of the top few back up pgs in the league playing 25 mins a night, it was too much to match

They will be better off punting every season Wiggins is on the team

Seems like a good way to completely waste Towns. No thanks.

You'd rather they finish with 35-40 wins every season?

At what point do you try and win then, if not when an All-NBA caliber player is on your team for his age 23-27 seasons? Tank to get a guy as good as KAT, just in time for KAT to be gone?

Wolves won’t make the playoffs with Wiggins on the team. Likely making it so that KAT is gone in 4- 5 years.

Wiggins wont be here more than another year or so imo. I would not be surprised if he's gone before this next season starts.

Wiggins getting much, much better is our best hope as a franchise. Obviously it's a desperate one.

Really don't think there's much that can be done at this point to stop Towns' inevitable departure. The clock started ticking the moment the Jimmy situation went tits-up. Maybe even as early as Christmas 2016 when it was already apparent that Thibs was terrible. We're probably hoping for ping pong balls to save us. Ever as it always was.

Agree with the 1st part about Wiggins, assuming he is still with us at the start of the season. I'm still holding out hope that some sucker comes along before this season starts and takes him away from us without us taking on bad contracts or giving away assets. That might be easier to do next off-season though, especially if he starts to play better consistently (I am lol-ing at the thought of him becoming consistent after I wrote that). I do think that there will be a lot of effort done by coaches to make him take less bad shots though. Also, when Rosas talks about the players on this team, he rarely says anything good about Wiggins.

Disagree with the bold. Towns signed his 5 year deal during the Butler drama. Would he have done that if he wanted to leave here? I think we already weathered that storm.

Who knows what happens between now and a year from now with this team, let alone 4 - 5 years from now. A lot of Wolves fans tend to foresee the worst possible scenario coming in the future. That's understandable, considering all the terrible things that have happened to this team over its history. We have a new guy in charge now who seems to be smarter than every other person we've had in charge of basketball operations. Lets give it a little time to see what happens.

Of course Towns doesn't want to be here. We're gonna suck this year, have no cap space for next year either. Thibs left us an old, capped out roster that isn't very good around Karl Anthony Towns instead of building for the future.

I'm just thinking about watching another season of Jeff Teague being unable to throw Towns an entry pass...
