also, I'm the one who has to eat alot of crow as I was saying the Big11Ten, SEC, Pac-10 have never had a team lose when favored by that much and that the probability of them winning should just be rounded to 1.00 when doing evaluations of season W-L totals.

I need a good recipe for crow

I need a good recipe for crow
I might sautée it in butter with a little sage and a pinch of thyme. Then make a white wine pan sauce to pour over it. Serve with fresh linguine, tossed with a little olive oil and Parmesan. Even crow would have to taste good by then

The good news is it somewhat justifies my constant ragging on the Big11Ten last year, saying the top teams only built such good records because the rest of the league sucked really bad and not because the top teams were tops in the country

I am conflicted on how to weigh the blocked FGs

it might be line differences, but it seemed like blown assignments
The pressure came from inside of someone, thus a huge blown assignment. All any player is told to do on FG/XP is to step inside and protect that gap, it is inexcusable to not do so.

Lenoir-Rhyne is a trap game.
I wish it were as they were my favorite school recruiting me out of high school, but it's not. L-R can't compete in the SAC-8, a school with 14 scholarships has a 0% chance against App State. It's an entirely different animal from full scholarship 1AA playing 1A and full scholarship 1AA playing lower end scholarship D2. If L-R used the full allotment of scholarships the story MAY be different, but because they don't its a moot point.

this still needs to be justified? i thought the bowl games showed that they shouldn't have been the top teams.

Well we're getting someone who can coach better than Carr. That + Ryan Mallett should scare people in 2-3 years.

A good summary of the genius of Lloyd Carr from mgoblog:

"We, Michigan fans, surrender. A nuclear bomb by the name of Appalachian State has been dropped on us, and we surrender. You can have our emperor. He's a [censored] anyway.

And even when you aren't doing that [censored], at least you're not doing this:

Losing to Washington without yielding an offensive touchdown because you give up a field-goal-block touchdown and a deflected pick-six on back to back plays.

Losing to Oregon because you give up a punt return touchdown and punt block touchdown in the same game.

Losing to Iowa two weeks later because your grad assistant special teams coach debuts that crazy spread punting thing that was all in vogue without, apparently, bothering to [censored] practice it first. Then Michigan failed to notice the first couple punts were nearly blocked and got not one but two of the later punts actually blocked.

Losing to USC in the Rose Bowl. Not that this is news.

Singlehandedly turning Troy Smith from a POS QB who couldn't put together 100 passing yards if you spotted him 50 into the destroyer of worlds.

Blowing a 10 point lead and letting Texas march down the field for a winning field goal in the Rose Bowl.

Blowing a fourth quarter lead against Wisconsin by playing passive and letting the Badgers roll down the field at a leisurely pace, scoring just in time to give Michigan no chance to recover.

Yielding 61 yard run against [censored] Minnesota because your genius defensive coordinator set up an insane blitz that had one line of defense from a simple off-tackle run: a linebacker who never plays defensive end lined up as a strongside DE against Matt Spaeth (MATT SPAETH!).

Blowing a nine-point lead against Ohio State in five minutes.

The Alamo Bowl.

Attempting to cover Anthony Gonzalez with Chris Graham.

Losing to USC in the Rose Bowl. Not that this is news.

And then Appalachian State

Let the record show that Lloyd Carr never learns, and that you are right. We suck. We promise not to hope or expect anything except misery until someone named Tedford or Rodriguez or Schiano is coaching the team and to regard all good events as mere preludes to a fall. We are a defeated people. Give us your treaty. We will sign it."

Did you guys actually think he was a good coach before the tOSU game last year? Everyone jumped down my throat when I said he sucked here ~2 yrs ago.

I've hated on Lloyd Carr since he was Defenesive Coordinator. I preached to anybody who would listen that he never should have been hired as head coach. I quit posting on the UM message boards a few years ago, because I was called an idiot so many times for saying how much Lloyd sucks donkey balls. Finally a lot of UM fans are finally agreeing with me. My question to them is: what took you so long? It was so obvious to me that this man was over his head. I cannot possibly understand how others couldn't see it.

We make the same mistakes year after year..we run the same plays from the same formations every year. It has gotten to the point that we are openly mocked by opposing players. After last year's Rose Bowl, a few USC defenders were laughing at how predictable our offense is. After the App St. game on Saturday, their QB said he was "praying" in the offseason that UM did not make any significant defensive adjustments from last year, because he couldn't believe while watching the films how we don't cover the middle of the field. He knew they could torch us with posts and slants from a spread formation, just like everyone else does. Carr will never be fired, I just hope he will do the right thing and retire.

I am in absolute agreement - and am also disgusted Lloyd has lasted this long. He is a poor game coach and always has been.

I love how people are even acting like Carr even has an option to stay next year. No he won't be fired, he will "retire," by his volition or the University's.

Can't say i was expecting us to be dropped completely from the top 25 but wow. I thought that there was a better than 50% chance we'd drop into the 20s. Oh well, not that there wasn't incentive enough to regroup but hopefully being dropped completely gives our players an added spark.

I'm pretty sure I didn't jump down your throat

I'm pretty sure I piled on Lloyd as well

As good as his record was a few years back, it should've been much better as far as solo titles, lead co-titles, competing on the national level, etc

I read that they missed 2 2-pt conversions during the game.

Were those bad decisions to go for them at the time? I would assume the 2nd was necessary because the first failed. Without knowing the circumstance, my hypothesis is that they shouldn't have gone for two the first time.

The first attempt was in the 3rd quarter when it was 31-25. I hated the decision at the time and obv I still do. Way too early to leave points on the field like that. I realize our offense hadn't done anything since the 1st quarter but its seems like a very basic XPT attempt.

The second conversion was late in the 4th after they took a one pt lead on Hart's spectacular run.

Mid 3rd Qtr you go for 1, mid 4th you go for 2. Late 3rd/early 4th is kind of a gray area IMO. I can't fault that decision given that the scoring had slowed down in the 2nd half.
Michigan Football: HARBAUGH Quote

I was really against going for 2 with about one minute left in the 3rd quarter....too high scoring of a game IMO and more scores expected

the 4th quarter one was a good time to go, but that's only because they didn't get the one earlier
