From now on, it'll be guys that lead us to 9 wins forever.
With that said, I do not want Rich Rod fired. And I'll never hold any sort of grudge against him. I'm starting to believe his biggest mistake was taking the job in the first place, though.
Here's what will make me absolutely sick if we fire him: I truly believe that they are soooo close. He hasn't lost the team ainec. Watch all of the presser videos week-in and week-out.
This week's Molk video is the best I've seen all year. Nobody is pointing fingers. Everybody is working hard. Since fall camp, not a single player on the team has been late for a single session of practice, lifting, film, or study hall. 100+ kids on time every time for every football-related activity for three months? After all of the attrition that this program has gone through over the past few years, do we really want to subject ourselves to even more? Shove a coach out the door that the players are 100% behind and see what happens here. Chemistry counts a ton in football and this team has it in spades.
If we fire him now, I'm always going to wonder what could have been in 2011. There is so much potential. We're returning 22 of 24 starters. With RichRod, this team is competing for a Big Ten championship at minimum. Without him, who knows. I am a firm believer that barring a complete disaster with no light at the end of the tunnel, that a coach should always get at least four years. Are we really going to fire this guy now when his first full recruiting class has just finished their redshirt freshman/sophomore season? We'd be Notre Daming ourselves.
