On one hand its great that ND apparently still blows. On the other its gonna be really bad if we lose.

This is one of only two games this year that I will be super-invested in emotionally, the other obv being tOSU.

Schembechler Football Building, Thursday before the Miami (Not That One) game, 9:42 p.m.

RichRod: Dammit, Calvin, we don't have a single rushing play that we can count on for a three yard gain.
McGee: 'fraid you're right, coach. What we gonna do bout that?
RichRod: Hmm. Lemme think.
{GhostofLloyd}: (whispers) Use the Force, Luke
RichRod: Dude. Wait, what?
{GhostofLloyd}: (whispers) er ... Use the Fullback Shuffle, Rich
RichRod: Fullback? What's a fullback? Calvin. Gimme some tape.
McGee: Here you go, coach. I looked it up - a fullback is this blocker thing used in a medieval offensive structure called the "I Formation".
RichRod: The "I Formation"? How quaint.
{GhostofLloyd}: (whispers) defenses never pick up on the Fullback Shuffle
RichRod: (views tape)
RichRod: Calvin, why do you suppose that there are always seven guys piling on the ballcarrier on these Fullback Shuffle plays?
RichRod: (burns with the intensity of one hundred firey suns)
{GhostofLloyd}: (shrivels up and blows away like a puff of smoke)
RichRod: Aww, hell, what do we have to lose? It's not like we've blown anybody off the line so far, maybe these guys can drive block. We'll put it in tomorrow - fullback shuffle left, fullback shuffle right.

{end scene}

Hey, maybe next week the playbook will have *2* I formation plays!

In all seriousness, I was glad to see a couple runs out of the I, even though the FB shuffle should have tipped off everyone in three states as to which way the play was going.

Ugly but a win.

QFT. Look, I'm all for not tipping your plays generally. But sometimes you just suck at executing such that you need to do something (such as shuffling the fullback) to give your guys better angles, and just hope the other team doesn't adjust quickly or well enough to negate it. It's like playing a live 2/4 table in poker. Sure you should generally vary your play and try to be unpredictable, but at a 2/4 table you should just play it straight up, and if someone figures out what you have so be it, you're still better off playing this way. Miami = table of donkeys.

Um, those are all good and all, but how could you forget THE best Notre Dame highlight reel evah:

Brady Quinn for Heisman

If there's a more perfect fusion of song and video, I'd like to see it.

Alright, so we're starting a walk-on at left tackle this week. We go from the #1 pick in the draft to a guy who probably had scholarship offers from Benton Harbor Community College or something. Good times.

Yeah, but on the plus side, since we can't complete passes across the line of scrimmage we probably won't really even try, and hence it doesn't matter how bad he is, no one will have time to get to the QB. Plus, with as bad as our run blocking is, other defensive players with a shorter path to the ball will get to the RB before his guy, even if he whiffs completely, so that won't matter either.

Yeah I know, but we might as well go to a ****ing Wildcat formation and direct snap it to the dude on the right and runrunrunrun. Or Threet could learn how to throw the ball 5 feet lower.

Over/Under number of OFFENSIVE points scored in this game: 12.5

This could be a matchup of two of the worst looking offenses in college football right now.

Are we counting points that are largely the result of D? Like a blocked punt at the 5 or a turnover inside the 10?

Also, ND's passing game looks decent. I still think their Oline sucks, so that's going to effect things, but Jimmah looked competent enough.

Also, they will be unveiling a statue of Lou Holtz before the game. No word on whether it has a spit fountain or not.

principal had the balls to announce on the p.a. this afternoon that because 'ohio state has a big game on saturday, everyone can wear their ohio state gear tomorrow' (aka dress down day)...

then he ran into me 3 minutes later...

'gonna wear your buckeye gear tomorrow?'

'i think you know what i'll be wearing'

'i said it's okay for osu gear, what will YOU be wearing?'

'i'll be wearing my self-respect'

Watched the HS game last night, but I was drinking heavily.

'Vod looked good running the ball and throwing short passes (I was especially impressed with how he waited on the first TD screen pass) and medium range passes (the big play down the right sideline) but I don't recall any deep throws.

Keep in mind I didn't watch the entire game and by then I had friends over and was smashed.

FUTURE IS BRIGHT, THOUGH!

How does that play down the sideline not qualify as a deep throw? I was drunk, but wasn't that at least 25 or so yards in the air?
