Manningham never planned on staying once they knew Lloyd was gone.

In a letter sent to NFL team officials, former University of Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham admitted testing positive for using marijuana twice during his college career, according to a report Tuesday by ProFootballWeeky.com.

Manningham, who left Michigan after his junior season to enter this month's NFL Draft, initially denied testing positive when asked about past drug use at February's NFL Scouting Combine, according to the Web site. But the receiver changed his stance in the letter.
I'll preface this with it's been awhile, so I may not be remembering this correctly, but marijuana isn't tested for by the NCAA. The AD tests for it. The first positive test gets you a short term suspension and some drug counseling. The coach has the authority to enforce additional punishment. A second test is a long suspension. I'm fairly certain it is a full season, but I could be misremembering.

I've looked briefly for the policy, but it isn't public.

Could be worse, we could have Les Miles.

Manningham's second failed drug test happened way before the end of the season.

In fact, I remember rumors that there was a third one that got covered up because it would have meant getting booted. No clue if those are true. But the first one happened earlier in his career. The second one he got suspended for a game or two for in 2007.

For 2008, you predicted 8-4 and I predicted 5-7.

For 2009, you predicted 7-5 and I predicted 5-7.

Remember, in 2008, I was the ONLY ONE to predict that Michigan would have a losing record that you know of. Every ESPN, DetroitNews, Freep writer etc had Michigan going 8-4, 9-3.

In 2009, I nailed it right on the head.

What does all this mean? (in reality nothing but a hot streak but shhh) It means I'm pretty damn good at this. So when I say 8-4, Michigan is going 8 and muthaf**king 4. Also lol at UofM losing to ND with Clausen, Tate and alot of their OL gone.

I agree that makes the ND game tougher. 2010 is definitely a year I wish Michigan could play ND first game of the season. BTW, if Clausen returns I will cry because then @ND becomes an auto-loss.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, except the opposite. It's time for him and Charlie to go pro.

yessir, it would be.

i'd like to look at the schedule again before guessing (because obv that's all it is at this point), but the baseline (ONCE AGAIN) may be in 'missing bowl' territory.

Right. I think there are legitimate reasons to be optimistic and guess 8-4 or 9-3 or whatever, but I'm really not sure there's a bottom. I think they'll win 2 games for sure (UMASS & BG), but UCONN+ND+BIGTEN = teams you can't really have supreme confidence we'll beat.

Cullen Christian just committed. Even though he was long considered a big UM lean, it is still a major get considering the late season slide and negative vibes around the program.

Yeah it's a huge commit, especially if Warren leaves and Christian gets pressed into immediate duty -- he's probably better or equivalent to whatever else we have, except for Turner and Woolfolk, maybe. Either way it's depth at a crucial position where we're lacking depth.

One sort of down note: I don't think we were that "unlucky" this year. We played in 5 close games and went 2-3. We were outgained in 9 games. I don't think we had that many injuries, particularly on D. We did have some key ones on O, but in terms of man-games missed, I'd be surprised if we didn't do better than average, whatever that might be. I guess we did awful in TO margin, and that tends to even out. I understand that who recovers a fumble is random, TO's aren't, but I think there is also little year-to-year correlation in turnover margin, which suggests a high degree of randomness, and suggests we should do better next year. Anyway, we pretty much deserved to be 5-7. Upside is there is a ton of youth that should get better, and upgrading our few horrible positions to servicable (LB, S) should make a huge difference by itself.

Finally some good news.

As far as being lucky goes, if we cure the turnover rampage we've been on the last two years, our results are vastly different. After looking at the overall results for this year, I was a bit more encouraged. The season didn't really fall apart until the Penn State game, and on a macro level it just makes me think our lack of depth just hurts more and more as the season went on. We really do need a whole bunch of guys to take the sophomore leap though.

Question:

What happened to Stokes and Kelvin Grady? Especially Grady? Seems like he was going to be a serious factor earlier in the season and then just faded away quietly, it seems.

Grady played well the first couple of games then started struggling. Roundtree just took his spot, I think.

imo i think we need a 3rd/alternate jersey. the basketball teams maize jerseys and soooo ****ing sick. white pants with maize tops would be so legit. you could also **** around and see how all maize would look....although i assume white pants/maize top would look way better.
