Wasn't too pleased to see Northwestern have a pulse last week, really could use a walkover to get healthy and get some backups experience before we Sparty.
(full disclosure, if I bet on sports I would have hammered Rutgers -2).
I thought Rutgers -2 was a lock too but then I watched some podcast--Bigger Ten--and the guy was talking about how Rutgers has got to be physically beat up by having to play Michigan, OSU and MSU in back to back to back weeks and that sure NW hasn't looked good this year but they still have a great coach and a bye week to get something right. The funny thing is the guy said all this and then still picked Rutgers anyways but that line of thought spooked me enough to stay away. Overall tho I haven't really bet much this year. I just got out of a relationship and gave her 12K to help her on her way, and I lent her daughter 7K to get a new car (the probability of that loan defaulting is around 90% lol). So I basically blew my whole gambling allowance before the season even started. So I've had to stay mostly on the sidelines. Certainly no crazy bets. Sux too since Michigan is around 5-1 against the spread this year depending whether one got the right line vs Neb. The one year Michigan wouldn't destroy me sigh.
Either way, everybody better be fully soaking this year in. This is a magical year for Michigan. We are very likely gonna be undefeated going into November, something that's only happened like 3 times in our lives counting this year.
RE: Nebraska. Amazing atmosphere. Beautiful game flaws and all. I have only one thing to complain about. That point in the game where it was like 3rd and 6 and a first down effectively ends the game cuz we would've been able to kill the clock and kick and extra point FG for the win. The coaching staff doesn't even go for it. They put McCarthy out there on an obvious run play which is basically just settling for a FG and hoping the defense holds. At this point it's not really worth bitching about. This is who Harbaugh is, he's not a big game coach, but man I can't put into words how bad that is. When getting 6 yards wins the game you have to try to WIN THE ****ING GAME.
As far as MSU: I don't really think this game will be that close. As far as skill position players I think it's a tie but Michigan should have a pretty large edge on both lines and that alone should decide the game. Obviously what Tucker has done is magnificent. Urban Meyer-esk. But as great as this turn around is, there's no way he has rebuilt those lines in a year's time. MSU is vulnerable. They just haven't been exploited yet. Michigan 27 MSU 10.
Our big game and big rival is still PSU. We win that game and then we can talk about playoffs, the idea being we lose to OSU, go 11-1 and somehow get in anyways. As I think I've mentioned before, I no longer view OSU as a rival anymore becuz that game no longer exists on the schedule for me. The Penn State game is THE GAME every year for me now. If Clifford is healthy I still expect a close line like PSU -3. If PSU has to play that back up it should be Michigan -10. He's THAT bad.
All we have to do is split MSU/PSU and we lock in a great year going 10-2. As far as NW I agree they have a pulse now but obviously I'm not too worried. That said, there's no way I would bet Michigan -23.5. That line is ridiculous man. You either have to bet NW at that line or you don't bet at all. Even tho Michigan is having a great year that doesn't mean Michigan is a great team. I think they're good. I mean a lot of teams are good and we're one of those teams. But the problem with "good" teams is if they don't play their A game they can lose to anyone. See Iowa. If Michigan doesn't play their A game vs NW that's gonna be a 4th quarter game. I think they will tho. I don't think McNamara will let this team slip. Dude has the it factor leadership skills. Also the hate he gets is ridiculous. He can make all the throws and he moves the offense and he barely ever makes mistakes. The origin of the hate boils down to this--explicitly or subconsciously--he's not good enough to beat Ohio State.....which is true, but so ****ing what. Why do people still care about that game?!?!? The bottom line is he is good enough to beat every other team on our schedule and frankly that's as good as it gets. If one isn't satisfied with that they suck at being a Michigan fan. With all the QB misadventures we had sense Henne graduated having a QB like McNamara should be a breath of fresh air.
BTW there's only 4 great teams out there: Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. Yes Oklahoma is now considered a great team becuz they now have the best QB in the game. He's right up there with the all time college football greats (Cam Newton, Burrow, Tua, Fields). It's scary man.
