That 8 team playoff reserves a spot for ND any time we have a pulse.

Yep, it allows the possibility if not probability of a 2 loss ND getting in, and I'm fine with that. That's the thing, so many schools (ND, Mich, Penn St, Tex, etc) are stuck in perennial "almost relevant" mode. Under an 8 team playoff, these schools would be fully unlocked. And what comes with more relevance, more success or at least more perceived success: Better recruits which will naturally break up the near monopoly the top 5 teams currently have on the nations best athletes. This is why you'll never see Saban support an expanded playoff.

To me it's a crime against humanity whenever a B1G champ isn't in the playoffs. This conference is too damn tough to not get a yearly representative.

Big Ten teams that have gotten screwed over by not having an 8 team format with autobids for P5 champ:

2014: None, but Ohio State came awfully close to getting screwed over. Maybe 11-2 MSU squeaks in for an at large, can't remember.

2015: Ohio State got royally screwed. MSU deserved a spot for running ungodly hot but Ohio State gets an easy at large bid in 8 team format.

2016: How things shoulda went. Penn State earns a spot, and Ohio State gets the at large for making sure the "right" refs dictated the "right" outcome of The Game.

2017: Ohio State earns the autobid but maybe a 10-2 PSU or 12-1 Wisconsin team gets an at large bid, can't remember.

2018: Ohio State gets screwed again.

It might solve the problem of the 8 game conf schedulers tipping the scales against those who play 9. The SEC may grab more cash and go to 9 conf games now that their slot is de jure locked up. Or they could stay at 8 and now have de facto two guaranteed berths.

Went to the Iowa game and Holy **** that offense is putrid. Need Dmac to get healthy because Patterson is hopeless

Yeah if McCaffery is healthy I think you have to start him to give him a chance to get a full game in before PSU and ND.

We just don’t have a chance with Patterson at beating any good teams. Might as well take a shot at something new.

I just don’t think Penn State is talented or explosive enough for a 2017 redux where we just totally get our doors blown off.

I could totally see this being 28-6 or 24-7 or something like that, where our defense plays well but our offense just can’t get anything going all night.

It's a uniform game as far as I'm concerned. Putting on the hallowed maize and blue and showing up is all that should be necessary. I don't care what the spread is. I don't care about past struggles or current flaws of this team. The bottom line is we are supposed to beat Penn State for the same reason we are supposed to beat Purdue. Nothing has changed since Marcus Ray's immortal words. We're still Michigan. They're still Penn State. Now and ****ing forever.

Michigan 17 Penn State 6

McSorley ain't walking through that door. Barkley ain't walking through that door. We got GOT in 2017 becuz it was a rebuilding Michigan team with O'korn vs the 2nd greatest Penn State team of all time. There's no reason to believe this Penn State team is that good. They lost a lot of players. Their gritty wins vs Pitt and Iowa don't mean ****. I know their new QB looks decent but he has not faced a defense as good as Don Brown's yet in his nascent career. He will get beat up, he will get rattled and he will make mistakes. Now I get that we are not that good either. Point taken. But we have the talent edge vs this Penn State squad, we're getting several key players back from injury. All Shea has to do is be as good as he was last year and we got this easily.

PS: And let's not forget this is the one time we are the ones with the huge in game coaching edge. The fact that Harbaugh sux in big games don't mean **** vs Franklin.

The only thing I can take solace in at this point is that it's a weird game with a weird shaped ball played by 18-22 year olds.

Teams struggle for a long time and break out for no good reason. Teams look entirely different from week to week.

I think I have hope in the fact that this has to be the end of the rope for Patterson on Saturday. If he isn't getting it done in the first half, it's gotta be McCaffery time. And maybe that's the jump start the offense needs. Who knows.

I have to assume this post was meant sarcastically. I just can't fathom the alternative.

I mean it’s basically the difference between us (the Lions) and Ohio State (The Patriots). From coaching to execution to game planning, we’re just not all the way there. And that turns wins into losses, it turns blowouts into close games. And that’s just who we are.

It’s not the coaches fault. Yes Jim did idiotic Jim things, that’s gonna come with the territory. The game plan was good enough to win tonight, the execution wasn’t.

Drunk texts from my psu buddy:

Quote:
"God you guys suck"

"I love how mogoblog rips on Franklin as an in-game coach when Harbaugh single-handedly lost this game...punting on the opening drive on 4th and 1 inside the 50. Deciding to kick a 58 yard fg and then kicking it with the guy who can't kick it that far Hahahaha"

"You guys showed that winning the outback bowl is possible this year"

"Also, maybe recruit the guy who single handedly beat you -- a guy in your state -- next time"
Yea that about sums it up.
