LOL NCAA -- not so much because they granted the waiver but how quickly they did after the dragging out of l'affair Shea Patterson.
Why I'm not as devastated as I thought I would be: Yes Justin Fields being eligible means beating Ohio State is no longer an achievable reality as long as he's there. And thus making the playoffs is no longer an achievable reality as long as he's there.
But here's the thing. What has really changed? We haven't beaten a legit Ohio State team since 2003. And at this point do any of us actually believe a Harbaugh coached team can even make it to the playoffs? So yeah um whatever. Nobody's got it better than Ohio State and the beat goes on.
The hard truth is Michigan fans are gonna be miserable indefinitely if they don't accept the real limitations of this program. There's a better way. Realign expectations with reality and appreciate the good times this team can still bring to the table. Next year we are set up to be undefeated going into our October 19th showdown at Penn State followed by another epic battle vs Notre Dame. That 2 week period is gonna be exciting as **** just like that 4 week/3 game stretch for us this year vs MSU, WIS, and PSU was tons of fun times. Next year we'll probably end up 10-2 in another New Year's six bowl vying for that elusive 11th win. That is not something to scoff at.
Basically you choose the narrative. You can choose to be a miserable human being and define this program by all the Ohio State games they lose, all the playoffs they miss and all the ******ed in game decisions Harbaugh inevitably will make or you can say "Hey we won 10 games again, and maybe we'll win 11. That's pretty cool. And wasn't curbstomping Penn State and/or ND and/or MSU really fun!?!" It was arguably this choice all along anyways. Ohio State getting Fields just made the decision super easy.
