If so he needs to commit to Texas first

Maybe North Texas, SMU and West Texas A&M too.

Devery Hamilton flips to Stanford. Too bad, he was a quality prospect. But I think there might be a bit too much freaking out to come about the lack of tackles in the class.

Stanford is an anomaly in that it often takes much longer to get an offer of admission than it does for the team to initially offer the schollie. So a kid flipping to Stanford shouldn't be too surprising once the offer of admission comes through--if academics are your #1 priority than Stanford is the GOAT place to play big time college football.

Right now ND is probably in the lead for #1 WR Demetrius Robertson, but he recently retook the SAT hoping to get into Stanford. If he is admitted, that wouldn't shock me as his final destination.

Yep, I have absolutely zero problem with a high academics kid choosing Stanford. Definitely a super elite college option.

I'm also inclined to think that the staff knew that Hamilton was waiting to hear from Stanford, working to get back in on EJ Price makes a lot more sense now.

It's kinda amusing (for no particular reason) that there are as many Michigan-Stanford battles this recruiting season as there are Michigan-Michigan State.

I went to ND/Stanford this past year in Palo Alto. It was senior night, and I'd say 90% of the seniors they introduced had legit STEM-oriented majors. It was such a refreshing counterpoint to the SEC football factories that funnel their players into joke majors and don't give a **** about graduation rates.

The only somewhat unfortunate dynamic I noticed is that as an elite, international minded school--the Stanford fanbase could never be described as "rabid." It was easily the least threatening road environment I had seen. As such, I think the team definitely deserves a fanbase commensurate with the quality of the product they put on the field.

Rabid fanbases are drawn from people who didn't attend school there.

That's pretty spot on. But I bet there is a few out there that are rabid even with majority of people attending the school.

At this point it would be a pretty big surprise if he didn't. Too many reasons why he will.

Still time to get Handed or Rojo'd tho

But he lives in Palo Alto, right? His wife is faculty at Stanford iirc. I bet he actually knows Harbaugh from Stanford in some capacity.

Harbaugh and Hellmuth are friends. Of course they are. They are two of a kind, a pair of wild cards with a gift for racking up wins and irritating opponents at an astonishing rate.

Hey, at least they have each other.

"I love his intensity. I love his will to win," Hellmuth said of Harbaugh. "He's out here on the field running around with the players. At Stanford, he was out throwing passes with Andrew Luck.

"He's a warrior. He's intensely into the game. ... And he has his finger on the pulse of the team like no one I've ever seen. He knows his players and the state of mind that they're in."

Hellmuth, 47, lives in Palo Alto. His wife, Kathy, works at Stanford. He met Harbaugh at a Cardinal basketball game he attended with Joe Lacob, now the Warriors co-owner.
Quote:
Harbaugh began inviting Hellmuth to Stanford practices, telling him he wanted a little celebrity buzz around the Cardinal to counter what Snoop Dogg and Will Ferrell were doing by popping up at USC.

Hellmuth couldn't come by Stanford too often (his day job has netted more than $13 million in career tournament earnings), but he once traveled with Harbaugh and the Cardinal to a game at Wake Forest.

Hellmuth made his 49ers practice debut Wednesday, and Harbaugh asked him to address players in the locker room. Channeling one of the coach's favorite themes, the poker champ told players that a 9-2 start was no reason to start celebrating.

"If you keep your heads up listening to NFL Network and Warren Sapp, then you'll buy into being 'great' and get sloppy," he told them. "Instead, keep your heads down, and your bodies in the right place at the right time; no jumping routes!"
