Just curious what you all think the percent chance you get the following
I'm a 'these things in the past keep happening' type of guy and note that we have seen names come out of nowhere at the last minute in the past (e.g., Rich Rodriguez). So, things that have happened in the past:

1. (if rumors are to be believed) A Michigan AD thought he had a solid 'yes' from Jim Harbaugh, only to have Harbaugh pried away with NFL dollars and dreams. Those factors haven't changed, in fact they've only gotten worse. Too many competing NFL offers for Jimmy this year to feel good that Michigan has the most competitive package and environment for him.

2. Les Miles has been negotiating with UM in 2007 and 2011, hire never happened. I think it's also clear he's got just enough enemies in the UM football community and there's just enough frustration with the past 7 years that they're not going to take the risk with a potentially divisive hire.

Having said that, seems pretty clear the admin is making a full-court push for Harbaugh, and maybe we're desperate enough now (where we weren't in 2007 and 2011) to throw in the extra million or whatever to close the deal with the first choice. But I still expect disappointment there.

So:

Harbaugh: 15%
Miles: 10%
Stoops: <5%
Mora Jr: 5%
Field: 55%

Mora Jr. is an interesting dark-horse contender with his ties to incomprehensible-power-broker Mike Debord and Courtney Morgan or whatever.

But like RR, and now Mike Riley at Nebraska, I suspect fan and media intution is not great and the 2nd-tier candidates after Harbaugh are not Miles and Mora and Stoops but guys off the radar.

Les absolutely did not negotiate with us in 2011. Where is that coming from? Brandon flat out refused to even consider him.

Les Miles will remain LSU's coach after talking with Michigan officials about the vacancy at his alma mater.
Quote:
Miles met with Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon and other school representatives Monday night in Baton Rouge but did not return with them to Ann Arbor. He reportedly met with Alleva later Monday.
Anyone that thinks this wasn't a negotiation is a Dave Brandon slappy who still faps to the notion he never got turned down by anyone and Brady Hoke was his first choice.

According to John U Bacon, too, the 2011 timeline was something like: Brandon thought he had Harbaugh locked up for the last half of December, then around New Years finds out Harbaugh is going to take the 49ers job. Watch the presser when he announced RR was fired, and as has been documented, you can see Brandon getting his panties in a twist every time Harbaugh is mentioned:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSrmeScNPjI

Multiple times gives a snarky answer Harbaugh isn't coming because of NFL money. Brandon gets a disgusted look on his face every time he gets asked about Harbaugh.

Brandon then talks to Miles and whatever happens, happens. Whether the job is formally offered I suppose is a matter for the flies on the wall in the room. To suggest he "absolutely did not negotiate with us" is just flat out false though. Brandon & co. don't fly to Baton Rouge for his sage advice.

So whatever happened there happened. Then Brandon settles on Hoke.

Embarrassed, and being a prideful prick or whatever, Brandon spends the next 3 years telling everyone who will listen no one ever, ever turned him down for a job because it was never offered to anyone but Hoke, much to the laughter of everyone who hears it.

John Bacon, in Three and Out, specifically quotes Dave Brandon as having said that he will hire Les Miles "over my dead body"

huge lol at the idea that you have to be a Dave Brandon slappy to think that Les Miles didn't turn Brandon down in 2010

I would have been ****ing thrilled if Les was hired in 2010. The fact that he was, by all accounts of connected Michigan people, never approached because of whatever dynamic is there is just more proof of Brandon's incompetence.

My interest level would drop tremendously if it were Schiano. He'd be about the 59th best candidate available.

Schiano seems equivalent to Mike Riley LOL. Supposedly overachieved with low level talent in college, failed out of NFL.

Apparently odds on Michigan's next coach were suspended last night after a bunch of bets pushed the odds on Harbaugh from 8-1 to 2-1
