Yeah this is another valid implication -- if Brandon was going to fire him at 11am tomorrow, he's not having him release statements tonight.

gg waiting until December and having the "is Hoke a big fat dangerous idiot with malice for his players, or just a big fat dangerous idiot completely detached from the game?" conversation with every hard hit. Totally worth all the wins Hoke will bring to the table, like -- that one against IU at home they might win.

The only positive about this (well, there really aren't any for a statement that shameful) is that maybe this galvanizes the new president to say "whoa, **** that" and clean house.

In the event Hoke is fired before season's end: is there a non-zero chance that Dave Brandon steps in as interim coach?

Just real bad luck that the announcers picked right up on it, it would have been a complete nonissue otherwise. I mean, this happened two years ago, and I don't remember it making any waves at all, let alone reaching the national news:

"For him to go back into the game, a lot of guys would have stayed out awhile," USC coach Lane Kiffin said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "That shows what kind of tough kid he is."

I wouldn't call this bad luck. This may be just what we needed to finally get rid of this clown.

Think Nebraska has 100k people worth of rv space? If so you could empty the state.

This is about the well-being of players, and whether they’re prepared to lead a life outside of football.

Brady Hoke’s actions were indefensible, and we can no longer stand behind his employment at Michigan.

The safety of players is important, but let's not kid ourselves here. If hoke went 11-2 the last three years with one big ten title and we were 4-1 right now, no one would be calling for his job.

This is just a catalyst.

If you're a successful football coach and have a slip up in player safety then it's a bad offense that is correctible.

When you're a ****ty football coach who demonstrates that he has no control over your sidelines, it's cause to be fired.

Zimmer. I agree he should be fired. But he's being fired for sucking not because of player safety.

he's always been a smug POS with the media. his rhetoric a week ago with wojo iirc was outstandingly bad. it was like...

bob: this being your fourth year, do you feel the program is under-performing expectation?
hoke: well, you know, you can never really predict these types of things.
hoke: do you think we over-performed going 11-2 and winning the sugar bowl?

This is almost surely true, but also not much of a point. I agree if Hoke was 9-4 in his last 13 instead of 4-9, no one is calling for his head today. Why are we denying ourselves 13 data points going back to last year that he's not a good football coach and has lost control of the team? A huge part of the storyline getting to his **** up losing control with Morris's potential concussion is that he benched his 5 star, 5th year senior QB and has an incredibly porous offensive line that makes QB murder possible. Why we would ignore the total picture? I agree if we put ourselves behind some kind of Veil of Ignorance, Hoke could survive this kind of mistake. But we don't have to do that and this is the culmination of like, years of ****ing mistakes and mismanagement. 10 guys on punt returns, flip-flopping QBs, can't block a soul and defenses teeing off the QB, can't manage the clock -- when the final chapter is your QB's brains lying fried on the 40 yard line after the 5th headshot and like 3rd roughing the passer penalty your VERY TOUGH AND PHYSICAL team did nothing respond to, and you're sending him back in for more plays, you don't ignore the first 24 chapters in the 25 chapter epic, Brady Hoke is an Incompetent Bozo Clown.

lol i really do hope that Brian runs for regent, that'd be hilarious pretty much no matter what.

I think the point remains, though, that meaningful accountability from anyone save the new President isn't coming anytime soon. Brandon is going to keep on Brandon' it. The Regents are not some fleet responsive AD crisis team, they are rubber stamps serving functionally honorary positions. It's either Schlissel or nothing at all will change.
