If I'd realized Oregon was going to do THIS today I wouldn't have been so happy to see Appalachian State win last week. Totally stole our thunder. Still, that was unbelievably fun to watch, GO DUCKS!!!

(But watch out for Fresno please)

I typed this exact FYP like 15 minutes ago and decided it was too obvious. Glad to see I wasn't the only one.

I can't wait to see lines for the game.

Why do Michigan fans overlook that Les Miles isn't really that good of a coach, just because they want him to come back home?

Anything is an upgrade right now, but Miles leaving LSU isn't happening, but he's not great as it is.

On SportsCenter they said Henne won't play next week. So it looks like Clausen against Mallett

i hope they give mike hart some robotic legs in the next week because he's getting the ball about 50 times against ND especially after his comments and henne out.

Oh, and if Ryan Mallett doesn't redshirt this year I'm going to set Lloyd's office on fire. Kind of crazy that the kid (barring injury) is probably going to be Michigan's 3rd 4-year starting QB in a row.
I think it's pretty likely that he doesn't. And, I'd be fine with that IF he gets a lot of snaps AND they let him throw a lot. If his stat line at year's end reads something like 13-20, 152 yards, 1 TD, I'm going to be angry. But if we get him in for say an entire half against App State, EMU, and one or two B10 teams (and maybe 3 quarters against ND, don't want to run it up too much, after all), then I think it will be worth it. Getting reps is very important to developing as a QB.
entire half v Oregon....woot!

Big Michigan fan but I keep hoping for a dreadfull year just to be done with the coach. He plays it safe racks up enough wins fora good bowlgame but doesn't take the risks neccesary to be competitive with the top few teams. Even though the talent is there.
This is beyond stupid. Lloyd is only going to coach for a few more years, if that, and a disastrous season would damage the program more than him leaving would help it, and him helping the program by leaving is highly debatable, at best. How could you ever hope for your team to have a [censored] season?
interesting that we get to see this play out

Doubtful we do. Not so much because Lloyd will be fired (he won't), but because many signs were pointing to his retirement this year anyway (something about contract incentives). Granted, speculating about Lloyd's retirement has been a popular sport in Ann Arbor for a few years, so take it FWIW. The important thing, IMO, is this season, and specifically this start, all but ensures that DeBord gets no whiff of the job, if he ever had a chance. Bill Martin's record has been pretty good, IMO: Amaker was a mistake but I like his job in finding (and ponying up the cash for) a replacement...paid well for Maloney at baseball too, which is big. And with the stadium upgrade and the whole AD depending on football, he won't be afraid to pay the actual market rate for a top coach.

He'll aim high, and while we may well not get a Rodriguez or Tedford, it won't be because we're not looking and it won't be because we won't pay because we believe they should be honored to coach for us at a below-market rate. So there's that, which is nice.

Well the hangover has subsided and here are some thoughts on this abortion of a football season:

1. Whoever said that Miles would not leave LSU and that most Michigan fans want is off on both, I think. Everything I've read about him indicates that he would heavily consider going to Ann Arbor. Similarly, every fan blog and site I've read lists him as a possibility (obviously), but not as someone anybody really wants due to him not being all that great of a coach, rumored ethical problems, being a loudmouth jackass at times, and being one of the only people connected to Bo still coaching. A lot of people want an absolute change.

2. As far as other coaches go, anyone have any ideas? We've all heard names like Tedford, Petersen, Miles, etc. being thrown out there. Anyone have any other ideas? Qualifications include someone who runs an interesting offense, has not been consistently ripped by the spread, and actually watches videos of their first opponent during the offseason. I'm personally hoping Mary Sue Coleman gives a BJ to Steve Sarkisian to get him to come, but that's just me.

3. We finally don't have to face a spread next week, but Henne is doubtful to play and if we lose to Notre Dame I'm going to go kill some Catholics or something. That team sucks so bad and I was looking forward to them as a possible stepping stone to a semi-functional football team.

4. Here's where we stand on our preseason goals:

National Title: lol
Big 10 Title: Possible in a theoretical sense only
Winning Record: I don't know. Maybe.
Beat Rivals: ND blows, but Henne is out as mentioned above. Clausen/Mallett games begin much sooner than anyone though. Beating OSU is straight up laughable at this point, but they did suck vs. Akron and the game is a million years away, so we'll see. MSU game is going to be super tough.

Bowl Projetion: Motor City Bowl

Amount of alcohol consumed yesterday due to loss: 4 rum and cokes, 10 beers, and 2 vodka sprites.

Amount of feeling in my extremities after consuming said alcohol: None.

I read an interesting name on an Michigan blog today: Jon Gruden. Allegedly he once said that Michigan would be one of his dream jobs. I had never heard that before, so I am not sure if there is any truth to it. If he has worn out his welcome in Tampa, and is interested, what do you guys think? I have mixed feelings on Gruden, but I seriously doubt he is a possibility.

I just saw the line for the UM-ND game. Michigan -9.5

Considering Henne is likely out, I thought it would be -3 or 4. Can Michigan beat anybody by more than 10 points?
