Getting the Shark guy is not even newsworthy. Seriously, when shea arrives you can have a coaching staff of Harbaugh + Don Brown + me and Greear and we'd still go 10-2 at worst. And with no Shea everyone looks dumb again...except for Brown.

He went to the SEC Championship game against Alabama in his only two full years at Florida. Prior to that they were 6 years removed from their last Tebow appearance. His teams also racked up 3 wins vs top 10 teams in those two years, Michigan only has 1 under Harbaugh. Find it hard to imagine he's a bad hire.

Except Florida’s offense was a dumpster fire and he’s an offensive assistant. He also is supposedly not a good recruiter.

He does have a background as a WR coach, which will be helpful. Without all the additional responsibilities of being a HC hopefully he’ll be solid.

If Harbaugh got him after his time at CSU we would be doing back flips, his 2 Championships as Alabama OC and then 3 years at Colorado State where his offenses were 22nd and 32nd in his last 2 years there. He should be a good hire with ties to the south. He will probably more of the OC than Drevno I think.

nearly all of McElwain’s negatives (minus the recruiting part) are directly related to him being a head coach. he’s got a track record as a successful OC and WR coach, sometimes those guys just can’t be head coaches and that’s not an indictment of his position coaching ability

Too busy to really look but looks like Drev might be gone? not 100% sure sam just said to be ready for a coaching change up.

would make sense with Warriner waiting in the wings. i wasn’t as down on Drevno as most but there’s no denying Warriner is a massive upgrade, as he’d be over almost any OL coach. guy is an absurdly good OL coach, but iirc he’s also a zone guy so it’ll be a bit of a transition again

dude goes from hc at florida to a wr coach? just bc of a single 3-8 season. never understand how some coaches can suck their entire careers in premium jobs and some guys just fall off immediately.

If Drevno is leaving I would expect McElwain to add offensive coordinator to his title, even though it will undoubtedly continue to be a collaborative effort.

The bigger impact would definitely be moving Warriner into an actual coaching job so he can work hands on with the OL.

Those coaches probably have friends in high places all over so they just keep getting good gigs. From what I read, Jim M was always going to be part of the offensive game plan so he wasn't just going from HC to WR coach. 1-2 good years at Michigan and he will be a HC again if he wants.

well he’s probably the OC now

I know I’ve said it before but bringing in Warinner is such a coup. that 2014 OSU OL made the most in season improvement I’ve seen in any position group maybe ever, they got rolled by Virginia Tech in the second game and were absolutely facecrushing Alabama by the end of it

he is just so, so good

It also seems pretty clear now that Warinner was always going to be OL coach this season by hook or by crook, and the only question was whether Drevno would find a new job before then

Totally agree. He is elite as an OL, position coach. Anything more than that and he loses his effectiveness. Personally not thrilled he landed with your team. But my hope is that he ends up as your OC...!!!

That would be Jim M as the OC.

Warinner might get a RGC tag or something like that but I doubt he has the level of involvement with the offense that he had with his late OSU years

it’ll most likely be JH/Jimmy Mac/Pep running the show

Mo was diagnosed with a heart condition at the combine. No drills for him. Further testing required. Hopefully, it's minor.

Drevno to USC to coach...running backs? well that’s not what any of us expected

I would bet he will move up within a year or two. Not sure how many openings are available right now and he probably had to take what he could get at a major program. Now I don't think he should be a HC or OC but he probably is a very good position coach.

yep, might very well be a Warriner situation for him. pretty funny, the comments to the tweet announcing it had a lot of “sweet, he’s the best OL coach we’ve had in a long time” from SC fans

one man’s trash, I suppose
