yeah... lets waste another 20 seconds of valuable clock when were down 6 with under 1:30 to go to increase the % on your next shot by a few % that will prolly only be a 2 anyways...

Down 6 with 1:30 to go and 15 on the shot clock.. jacking up a quick, out of rhythm shot is exactly what you don't want to see. 90 seconds is so much time in basketball.

I really would like to see more of Vogrich. He can handle decently enough, he makes good decisions, and he makes quick passes. He really is perfect for this offense.

Edit: Obviously, he's a great shooter

I think Darius Morris has been a disappointment so far. He doesn't seem to be a confident ball handler, and I haven't seen much in terms of passing and overall court vision. He's been a virtual non-factor in the 3 losses (6 total points).

Tonight Illinois' top 2 freshman scored 32 points, our top 2 freshman combined for 1 point.

I really thought that somewhere along the way, Manny would've learned how to drive and kick. Instead, whenever he drives, defenses just collapse on him. It was the same bs last year, and it will continue to be this year unless he can learn how to execute a simple ****ing play.

I don't think Morris has been disappointing, he is still feeling his way through the offense, I think. He's shown a nice ability to get to the basket. He needs to get stronger so he can finish better (so does Manny for that matter). The one thing I think the defense really misses right now is CJ Lee's defense. Opposing PGs aren't being stopped soon enough, and it's opening up the paint a ton.

Michigan tied with Arkansas Pine-Bluff at halftime 32-32. Manny has 2 points in the first half, and we are the usual 3-15 from the 3-point line. Just gets worse and worse.

And we get blew the **** out by Utah and are now 4-4. We still have to travel to #1 Kansas for a game too before big 10 begins lol. Basically we have no shot at making the tourny unless we go 10-6 icp minimum.

gg tourney. This team is beyond terrible. 4 wins against St. Mary's School of the Blind is really not gonna impress the selection commitee. I'm really glad I bought that Go Blue ticket package to go watch meaningless games during the big ten schedule in jan and feb. Let's shoot at least 40 3's next game or at least try to break the NCAA record for most 3's shot during a game with the lowest make percentage. Shaq is also better from the charity stripe.

10-6 is short two games.

6-6 OOC & 10-8 in conference is not a tournament team. Probably need to go like 13-5 in conference and then win a few in the Big Ten tournament.

In other words, no chance.

What Happened to Michigan?

Good article. Summary:

- we can't shoot
- we can't rebound

So many UM fans are saying "Just wait until Douglass and Novak end their shooting slumps, then things will be better." Sure, anybody can have a few bad games and the word "slump" is applicable. However, when it comes to Novak and Douglass, how much of this is a slump? I contend they aren't any good. There is no slump involved.

Douglass has played 44 games at Michigan, Novak has played 42.

Douglass is 34.6 FG%, 31.4 3PT%, and 68.6 FT%

Novak is 37.7 FG%, 33.3 3PT%, and 66.7 FT%.

40+ games is enough to come to some conclusions about their shooting abilities. They are not in the low 30's in 3PT% and under 40 from the field because of any slump. It is just a reflection of their mediocrity (to be kind). So if we are all waiting for them to suddenly start shooting 40% from the 3-point line, I think we are in for a long wait. I wish they would start shooting like we hoped they would , but I'll believe it when I see it.

Douglass is shooting 23% from three this year. That's a far cry from his 33% last year. I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up around 33% by the end of this year.

Novak is shooting 28% after shooting 34% last year.

Sure, but mid-30's shooters who aren't all that great at other aspects of the game aren't really great assets. These guys are our veterans the next two years. If that's what they are....

What a horrible soul crushing year for Michigan sports. Michigan football starting 4-0 and then not winning another game for the rest of the year (that practice game doesn't count), and now Michigan basketball basically nosediving from the beginning and virtually eliminating their chances at making the tournament.

In terms of shattered expectations, this is the worst year in my sports life (starting from 1988 onwards)

Novak really is a pretty good defender and rebounder on top of being a decent shooter. Douglass used to be terrible outside of his shooting, but he's really developed his ball handling and passing. He's a legitimate option at PG, something the team definitely needs. They're not world beaters, but they're solid pieces who fulfill needs for the team currently.

And none of that has to do with the fact that they are very likely better shooters than what they've showed so far this year.

+1 here

Novak plays because of his toughness and willingness to do anything on the court to help the team.

Kansas is scary good. Michigan really hasn't played too bad thus far, they're just clearly over matched.
