Howard gets the job.

Certainly could have done a lot worse IMO. He's at least got some unique upsides to him relative to other potential candidates. Hopefully we can retain Yaklich and one of the other assistants to keep some continuity going.

As a part time Michigan slap, I wanted Yak because I think he has Chris Beard upside. But Howard is a fun mystery box.

Yeah I think Yaklich has big time upside and wouldn’t be shocked if he’s massively successful somewhere in 5-10 years. I also can’t really blame the AD for not hiring a guy that let’s be honest, 85% of the fan base has never heard of. Michigan fans, when it comes to basketball, are loud and opinionated, but also most don’t watch until the 2nd game against Michigan St every year.

Howard could have massive upside. As we covered ITT, Beilein was not some perennial world beater when he was hired either. I think the ideal for Howard is that we become the “clean” program for guys with their eyes on a 1 or 2 year stint in college then jumping to the NBA. Former NBA assistant, tight with Lebron, Wade, Spo, and a bunch of other current and former NBA’ers. I don’t expect him to get into Penny Hardaway levels of bag dropping, but every year there are 4 and 5* guys who aren’t in that game, and we should be in the market for them.

If Yak stays it won't be for long. He'll have a head job somewhere soon. In his shoes I might agree to stay a year, have my kid finish HS, get a nice bump in salary and prep for the next job.

There will be grumbling if he leaves now, especially for another assistant job, but Howard as least has a reputation as a guy who knows defense.

Keeping Sanderson seems like a smart decision, even if something of a no-brainer.

I gotta recant the above. Just saw the Howard press conference. One of the best press conferences I have ever seen. I dont even care if we gave it a real run at Donovan or not. **** Donovan, **** everyone. There's nobody I want to have this job more than Howard. Nobody. The most dangerous people in sports are those who are not working for a paycheck. Howard is our Scott Frost, our Jim Harbaugh, of basketball. Dude bleeds blue through and through. Next year is gonna suck but the program is in the right hands.

Potential is there for a super team

Really getting frustrated at Teske always looking gassed. He has the talent to play in Juwan's offense but not the stamina. Eat better, train better. Jfc man.

Big litmus test win. This is a tournament team. Only question now is how deep we will go.

Team looks good. Livers, Brooks, DeJuilius look better than I'd expected so far. We have managed to have a pretty balanced offense and Teske looks like a better offensive fit in this system than in Beilein's system as far as a primary usage guy.

Win 1/2 against Iowa St and Oregon and a loss to Louisville is still a pretty good non-conference schedule for us with a new coach.

I think we have the pieces in place to start putting together a dynasty. Juwan is so ****ing relatable/likable with young kids, he should kill recruiting.

Zav, Teske, and Livers are all really good. FRANZ takes this team to an elite level and he really hasn't been good offensively yet. To me, he looks like he will eventually be Michigans best offensive player by March. You can tell he just needs to figure it out but his potential is there and I dont think he will end the year anywhere near 26% from 3. Anyways, here's some clips on his defense so far.

Franz and Johns emerging is good for us long term. Think this is a 5 seed or so come tourney time, which is fine.
