We're in rebuilding mode now. We have a decent core of position players in Dozier, Mondesi, Merrifield, and maybe Lopez. Soler will be a decent DH.
Pitching needs a lot of work though. Keller and Junis have decent stuff, but need to be more consistent. Lopez has great stuff, but zero command. If I were to replace coaching, maybe Eldred needs to go.
A night after getting dominated again this year by washed-up Matt Harvey, we're getting owned by a rookie that came into this game with a +5 ERA, who also previously hadn't gone more than 5.1 in a game.(7 scoreless tonight on 90 approx pitches)
Last night Soler showed well, striking-out looking twice, both times with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.
And our 2 key cogs in the rotation both secure clutch Ls.
Weird season I actually am enjoying watching them almost every night unlike the teams of my childhood. Record is way worse than it seems like they should be but I guess this is for the best. I’m liking the way the 2018 draft pitching pipeline is looking so far even if maybe it doesn’t have the highest upside. 2021 might not be out of the question
Yeah, I'm still watching this team. We're in rebuilding mode, but its still cool to watch some of these guys play.
Soler hit his 40th and he absolutely crushed it. Too bad he's a liability in the field. I think he, Mondesi, and Dozier have All-Star talent if they can stay healthy and Merrifield is close.
Gonna need a bunch of pitching though. Lets hope we get some from all those guys they drafted last year.
Wade Miley, who had given up 13 earned runs in his 2 previous starts, pitching but 1/3rd inning combined in those 2 starts, got a win and quality start versus our boys today.
Watching the Cubs feed tonight, and they just shared a cool little factoid on Duffy.
He doubted if he could be a big-leaguer, but then saw Jason Heyward homer in his 1st major league ab. Having faced Jason in the minors, striking him out, Danny then reconsidered. Just K'ed him again, moments ago.
Phillips is about worthless. Got to a tough ball off the bat of Bryant in center, but couldn't catch it. Then swung through an 89 mph fastball with zero movement. Gonna squander a nice effort from Danny Boy, because we can't hit a guy we traded after designating for assignment lol
