Another day, another pwnage. 17-11 overall and a 2 game lead in the central. Let's get another mini-sweep tomorrow with Banny.

I'll be at the game tomorrow with my dad's class. If you see one white dude in a see of black high schoolers, that's me!

6 straight wins for your 1st place Kansas City Royals!

Soria looked awkward out there, and he almost blew it. He might still be injured.

great game. weird atmosphere as it was kids day and probably 20k out of the 32k in attendance were little kids. still awesome to see the stadium near packed at 1pm on a Thursday. on my long drive home I couldn't change the radio from the post game, I hope they make this a race all summer

"So yeah: it’s on. It’s most definitely on. The Royals are 18-11, they lead the division by 2.5 games, and unlike 2003, I’m not even excited about how they have played. I’m excited by how I think they will play. I think they will play well enough to contend, and maybe even win, the division. I think that it’s going to be the most enjoyable summer for Kansas City sports in a few decades. I think that many of the 32,713 kids who came out to the park this afternoon will be fans for life.

I think that the city is ready to embrace this team. Last night’s game garnered a 7.5 rating, the highest in the history of Fox Sports Kansas City. The previous highest-rated game was…the game before, with a 6.4 rating.

I think that we’re going to have a lot of fun over the next few months. I think that at some point, someone is going to see me walking around suburban Chicago with my Greinke jersey on and accuse me of being a bandwagon fan. I think that my wife is going to feel like a single mother in late September and October.

I think all of this will happen, but I don’t know. But I know one thing.

It’s on. It’s most definitely on."

reading rany this year has turned me into a bandwagon fan although in my defense I've never rooted for any other team and generally follow the royals until they fall behind 5 games out of first

Damn those Royals are hot. If Banny keeps it up the rotation is gonna be solid. And even Ponson looked promising...and if that doesn't work out Hochevar is tearing up 3A.

The way this team is playing, there will be more jumping on the bandwagon.

Anyone in or near SoCal want to catch one of the games Sat or Sun? None of my friends are into it. I'm almost ready to go by myself but I'm not sure how much fun that would be.

Tell them Greinke's pitching Sat. If you go by yourself, wear a Royals jersey. The TV guys always find the Royals fans on the road.

reading rany has turned ME into a bandwagon fan, and I'm a twins fan. btw royals are only -115 on pinnacle (-111 w/ no juice) w/ greinke pitching. really?

Ever since Rob (Neyer) and Rany started writing about the Royals they've had kind of a cult following. The Royals probably have some of the most educated fans out there right now, because the die-hards are true baseball purists. Rob mostly disowned them a few years back because he couldn't take the heartache. It will be interesting to see if he jumps back on the bandwagon.

I was born and lived in KC until I was 25 or so. My buddy finally got me into seriously following them again last year, after I had not payed a ton of attention to them since the early 90s, for obvious reasons. Except for that magical half year of 2003. I have a theory that my buddy moved to Seattle because he felt more comfortable with 200 days of rain a year. Same way with being a die-hard Royals fan the last 10 years. It will be interesting to see how he handles success, if we have it.

I was cursing my buddy pretty badly when they tanked last year. The Royals have had like half of the worst losing streaks of the last decade. Totally soul-crushing. I really hope that boogeyman is gone. But he still scares me. It really does feel like a different team now though (fingers crossed). It feels like we can win the division and we don't even have to do everything perfect, or get pretty lucky. That's a new feeling.

Dayton more took it pretty hard from the blogosphere for getting Crisp, Jacobs and Bloomquist. And right now those look like genius moves. As did adding Seitzer. The only disaster has been Farnsworth.

Lol I have listened to about 500 Royals games on the radio, sweating out the late 70s/early 80s pennant races (before any home games were even broadcast on TV). I've been to about 100 games, including the game we clinched the playoffs in '85 and George Brett's last game. I also saw the Nolan Ryan / Bret Saberhagen 18-inning game. I lived and died with them through the three playoff losses to the Yankees, and the '80 WS. I remember exactly where I was the day of the pine tar game. I've suffered through the tragedies of Dick Howser and Mark Davis and all the promise of the late 80s / early 90s teams.

I have the Dane Iorg "little looper to right field" saved on my tivo for going on 3 years now. I can almost recount every pitch of that inning.

I think I've earned the right to not live and die by them in the years they didn't even try to field a competitive team.

I wouldn't consider it being fairweather when the franchise abandons the fans and completely gives up on any chance of winning for 10+ years

Although I will say if you were a die hard fan right there with them season-in/season-out, from '95-'07, you deserve some kind of special medal.

Good point. I guess being an Islanders, Jets and Nets fan makes me think everyone should stand by their teams no matter what, but I see your point.

hopefully we can hold on here and avoid the sweep. The Tigers are pretty hot right now but Royals get to play 2 last place teams this week (2 @ oakland and 4 against Balt) before the I70 series kicks off. I'm excited to see a first place team in June!
