Re: Kansas City Chiefs

Def a very good offseason so far. Hope the draft is just as good. We need a couple playmakers on D and an anchor at DT.

Man it would be exciting if we got Berry. Definitely the fan favorite pick on both Chiefs forums I read.

And I was wondering why Larry Johnsons 2.5 ypc or whatever it was, was good enough to lock down the number 1 spot, while Jamaal Charles wasn't seeing any playing time. But old news for that. Hopefully we will see more of DJ this year.

Super PUMPED about Berry. We haven't have a perennial pro-bow safety since Derron Cherry. Here's hoping...

I love the pick. D is gonna rock under Romeo. At least it should be much better than last year. With our slightly easy schedule, 8-8 or bust, baby!

I wouldn't mind taking Cody with our next pick and solidifying our D-line. Apparantly Arrowhead Addict agrees.

I guess there are still 3 good OT we could get. Charles Brown, Rodger Saffold, or Bruce Campbell. I wonder if any of them will be there at 50?

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

If nobody trades up to 33 to get Clausen, we might luckbox him. Minn won't pick him or else they would have grabbed him at 30 last night. TB doesn't need a QB. I guess one of those 2 could trade down and somebody jumps us for him, but if he slides to us that would just be amazing.

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

The guys at footballoutsiders.com have the Chiefs winning the AFC West this year. Pretty crazy stuff.

Reasons why:
Weakest schedule in the league
An elite running game
4th healthiest team the last 5 years
Addressed big weaknesses on the roster (w/Berry and Wiegmann)
FO says Tamba Hali is one of the best pass rushers in the league, showing that he had a year comparable in value to Dumervil last year.

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

we need a better pass rush from our defensive line - Tyson Jackson had 0 sacks last year I believe?
Wallace Gilberry had more sacks then him and Dorsey combined. thats awful.

man I miss Jared Allen, he was my fav Chief next to Gonzales. funny enough, both no longer with us.

No way we end up with a better record than the Chargers this year. I put us at best, very best, 7-9
i predict 6-10 or 7-9.

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

Eric Berry's new ride, stock camaro souped up for $139k: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/forced...0-1-200hp.html

Quote:
With his $60,000,000/six year contract signing, Eric had quite a few options of cars to go with. Which did he choose? Not a Lamborghini, not a Ferrari, not a Bugatti, not a Koenigsegg. He put it bluntly; "I'm a Chevy guy." He wanted a National Speed NZ1200 Camaro. While the NZ1200 is a pre existing concept, this particular model is the NZ1200-EB Edition. The EB Edition will feature various differences (i.e. paint schemes, wheels, performance differences, etc.), and is special in the sense that for this and each future NZ1200-EB sold, National Speed will donate $10,000 to the Eric Berry Foundation. While the car is technically an NZ1200-EB Edition, it is still built off the NZ1200 platform. What is the NZ1200 platform? To the point; 427ci (7.0 liter) engine, twin-turbocharged, 1,200hp on pump gas, bullet proof drivetrain, world-class handling suspension (capable of 1.3gs on the skidpad), full braking upgrades, etc. The theory is to upgrade all performance aspects proportionally, and over engineer everything. This vehicle would be capable of sustaining 2,000hp+ without issue, that's how over engineered this vehicle is. The result is a bullet proof performance package that is OEM-like reliable and drivable at this level.

They're still working on it but here's the engine:

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

Ok it's time for my annual 'reasons why the Chiefs might not totally suck' post. I do think there is more to be optimistic about this year then the last 5 or so. But that's not saying much. Unfortunately we start with SD, @Cleveland, SF, @Indy, @Houston. So we'll be lucky to go 2-3. This team and fans can't take another 1-4 or 0-5 start. So we really have to find a way to steal one or two early, or it's going to be another long long season.

After digesting all the training camp sagas and scouring my forums, here's my take:

--- OFFENSE ---

QB:
Cassel's contract was structured from the beginning to be a 2-year trial so this is it. I think the best upside we can hope for is that he's a good system QB. But our offense is actually shaping up to the point where that might be enough. Everything else is downside and rebuliding/drafting someone else and not real fun to think about. I like Cassel's poise late in the game and the players seem to be behind him. Little things like arm strength, accuracy, timing and pocket presence leave a lot to be desired. Here's hoping the accuracy, timing and pocket presence were just because of crappy blocking, crappy route-running, new schemes etc. The arm strength can be worked around if those others improve.

RBs:
We should have one of the best RB corps in the league with Charles, Jones, and McCluster making a cameo here and there. Very excited to see what these guys can do if they stay healthy. It's amazing how a potential star in the making like Charles can just energize the whole fanbase and (hopefully) team.

Receivers:
I'm actually pretty pumped about DBowe's new attitude and dedication this year. Everyone seems to have forgotten about him in favor of talking about McCluster in the slot. But I look for DBowe to have a breakout year. At least he better have one this year, and I think he knows it. Here's hoping Chambers keeps his focus. That seems to be the knock on him and I'm worried he'll just disappear after our inevitably tough start. Jeremy Horne is an exciting rookie who might have a future as a starter some day. Odds Chambers is still productive after this year seem low, so we have to get another #1 or #2 receiver (depending on how much DBowe steps up). Still even a disinterested Chambers is a huge step up from the Devard Darlings we've been trotting out there the last few years.

TE:
I don't expect much so any production would be nice. I think some were hoping Moeaki would step up and be a star, but he didn't show a whole lot during training camp. Leonard Pope is Jason Dunn reincarnated, which isn't a bad thing when you need a blocking TE. O'Connell shouldn't be on the team.

OL:
People like to assume our line is just terrible, but Charles didn't rush for almost 1000 yards in 9 games on pure individual effort. Also we've got a pretty good upgrade from last year with Lilja at RG. Albert should have a better year now that he's had a year to adjust to his new playing weight and blocking scheme and hopefully Cassel won't be as much of a clueless statue back there. Wiegmann should be a slight upgrade over Niswanger at C. Richardson seems to have won the starting spot over O'Callahan at RT, but I'm not really sold on either. Very likely a position that will need to be addressed soon. Also LG, where Waters is getting pretty long in the tooth. Hopefully Asamoah can fill in at one of the guard spots if Waters can't hack it anymore.

--- DEFENSE ---

NT:
Barf. Edwards is old. Shuan Smith has shown nothing special. Maybe Toribio can step up. We have to upgrade this position by next year. I'm no 3-4 super-expert, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work too well w/o a disruptive force at NT.

DE:
I think Dorsey will be a solid 3-4 DE for years to come, though never the 2nd coming of Warren Sapp we were originally hoping for. He doesn't get pushed around anymore like he did his rookie season, and while he's not much of a sacker he does get pressure and collapse the pocket fairly consistently. I think it's telling the one game he was out last year some Denver no-name RB rushed for 250 yards on us. T-Jax, next to Cassel, is the biggest question mark on this team. He didn't do much last year, although he wasn't horrible for a typical rookie 3-4 DE. But he really looked like he was just phoning it in this preseason. Here's hoping (praying) he was just trying not to get injured since he knew he had a starting spot locked up. There's still hope for T-Jax, but he could easily be a complete bust.

ILB:
One of the weirder positional battles in recent memory. Looks like DJ has finally won his starting job back. Although what that means or how long it lasts is anyone's guess. Look for Mays, Belcher, Williams and Johnson to rotate in and out like crazy and be generally mediocre.

OLB:
Hali is possibly our best player on D. Vrabel is solid. Studebaker has been one of the few defensive bright spots this preseason. Let's see if he can carry that over and blossom this year. Williams looks to get some chances as a dedicated edge rusher on passing downs, so that could hold promise. Slightly above mediocre here.

CB:
Flowers is neck and neck with Hali for our best player on D. Carr may or may not be a starting NFL corner, but I'm guessing with more help from Arenas in the Nickel and from our improved safeties, his deficiencies might be manageable. We need Leggit to make it back healthy as he was a solid backup/spell-guy.

Safety:
Berry is still unproven, but all signs point to him being a monster for years to come. McGraw is hopefully just filling time for Kendrick Lewis to develop into a solid starter. A lot of people really really like what they saw from Lewis this preseason. With or w/o him, our secondary is still by far the strength of our D. The Chiefs have a long history of excellent secondaries all coming up at about the same time -- Lewis/Ross/Burruss/Cherry, Carter/Hasty/Woods/Tongue - even going old school to guys like Barbaro/Green or mega old school to Johnny Robinson/Emmit Thomas. Here's hoping the current secondary can make their mark in that storied history.

Kicker/Punter:
Not much to say - Colquitt is one of the best and Succop looks like he has a bright future.

Return Game:
Possibly our biggest upgrade from last year with Arenas and McCluster. Here's hoping they don't get killed before we get our fill of excitement.

Coaching:
It's hard not to get excited about Weis and Crennel. But it really is the players that have to make the plays. I think I'm more excited that Haley doesn't have to do every damn thing himself anymore. I guess I'm taking a wait-and-see on how much of a difference our 2 all-star coordinators make. But it can't be a downgrade.

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

Thumbs up suzz, great summary. Finally the Chiefs have something positive going on. I'm calling it a 7-9 type team. If the major weaknesses (NT, RT, WR) are addressed next offseason, and Cassell becomes league average, then they'll be pretty exciting the next few years.

I'm going Monday night. Arrowhead on opening Monday could become a scary place once again.

Arrowhead sounds amazing tonight.
I was at the home opener a few years ago against the bengals, but this just sounds insane. Need to have more primetime games at Arrowhead again

Re: Kansas City Chiefs

2009 Charles 10 games as starter 1100 yards
TJones 16 games as starter 1400

2010 Charles is the #2 RB...11 carries, pathetic.
I really hope he leaves as a free agent...Haley is such an awful coach.
