Tough loss for the Jets. They are definitely an elite team. Rex Ryan for Coach of the year. Maybe next year he won't play the "super bowl" against the Patriots in week 2.

Well the one drive in the game where we need our defense to make a stop and they get absolutely ****ted on, I personally think that is what cost the Jets the game.

I guess Ryan is having a little trouble coaching a defense that doesn't have Ed Reed and Ray Lewis.

i wasnt too surprised at the success jax's offense had. minus jenkins, their offense matches up well against our defense very well: very strong running game with good run blocking, and a very mobile and accurate qb. the 2nd half showing was great, of course until the last drive

sanchez, eh he played ok. the first int was pretty underthrown, the second was just a great play by the linebacker quentin groves, who ultimately ended up costing the jags 7 points by falling down inside the 10 lol. the nice thing was seeing him finally hit the checkdowns when his first and second reads werent there. still i would have liked a better performance against such a weak secondary

as i said earlier, the last 4 losses have been by 14 points. at 4-5 the team has a point differential of +40. sanchez is the last piece we are waiting for, and i think its pretty clear hes not really there yet. with an entire offseason under his belt next year is the year to have high expectations

Good post smig. I think the mistake of the game is the fact that Revis did not shadow Sims-Walker until the second half. The Jaguars offense was a different unit when that happened. MSW is a huge part of the team and Garrard didn't even look his way. They shadowed, stacked the box, and then Dillard suffered a season ending injury which left the Jags with only 1 player that could get the smallest bit of separation left and he had to stay in and block(Mercedes Lewis).

Jets also did a very poor job of attacking an extremely depleted defensive line. Jaguars are forced into a 3-4 due to the lack of healthy bodies to play a 4-3. There were good surges by the OL of the Jets then they stalled which was super surprising(even against stacked box-single high defenses). Sanchez is an impressive QB that is in need of development which I'm sure will get there.

Also here are a couple of Rex Ryan stories to console you guys:

During the bye week the Summit HS Freshman(his son plays for them) had a game on Friday. The schools in NJ were closed Thu-Fri for teachers convention so Rex called up the AD of SHS to get the game switched to Wednesday so he could take his family to Miami for vacation...1 phonecall and 15 minutes later it was done.

At the game that wednesday(2 weeks ago) they needed a third person for the chain gang. Rex volunteered. Went down to the field and bs'ed with the other guys and waited for the game to start. Just as the game was starting(the other 2 chain guys were "paid volunteers" by the high school) the ref going to Rex cause he came out of the stands and goes to him..."Hey, sir, do you need any help doing this? It can get kind of complicated." Rex just simply said back, "yeah...I think I got it." \

FWIW, my high school is playing Summit high school in the semi-finals next saturday in the state playoffs. I'm expecting him to show up considering the Jets have a home game next week too.

Did anyone else see Sanchez at the post game press conference on SNY? The kid looked like he was amped up on coke or speed. I'm not joking, the kid was wired.

Mike Francessa opened his show today by trashing Sanchez' conference.

This is a copy in case anyone cares to read it. From the Sporting News.com

Quote:
After Sunday's season-killing loss to the Jaguars, in a game that we described at SportingNews.com as the first playoff game of quarterback Mark Sanchez's career, Sanchez showed up for the post-game press availability as if he were running for class president.

He brought a speech.

Here's what he said: "I've got a couple of things to say real quick. You guys will probably have some questions after. This should hit on everything. [There] are just some things I'm thinking here real quick. We'll change it up. OK?

"First play of the game, [I had an] early mistake. It can't happen. It put our offense in a tough spot. [It was] a great read. J-Co [Jerricho Cotchery] runs an awesome route and it's just a physical mistake and underthrown ball. The best part about it, the mental side of it, I battled back all game.

"[I] played smarter the rest of the game [and I am] proud of my effort. Second thing [with] the interception, the defensive end makes a pretty good play. The guy got up there and just spooked me off the edge there and made a great play. In the big scheme of things, it didn't hurt us. We got the ball back. Our defense played their tail off and got us the ball.

"The last drive of the game [was] just unbelievable effort. The offensive line [did a great job]. I've got some guys written down here: [David] Clowney, J-Co [Jerricho Cotchery], and Dustin [Keller], Braylon [Edwards]. Those third-down conversions were unbelievable. [It was] a great effort.

"Clowney comes in and makes one huge catch. It changes the course of the game and keeps our drive alive. Then, the O-line [was] giving you tons of time on that drive. At the end of that drive, we scored. T.J. [Thomas Jones] punches it in. [With] the two-point conversion, I've got to put it on Braylon sooner. He makes a good effort going after the ball, but that ball has got to be there sooner so nobody can knock it out of his hands.

"The bottom line to this whole thing, to this entire game, to our entire season is find a way to find a way. Coach [Ryan] challenged us already. We've got to find a way to win some games. Right now we're finding ways to lose, but we're in a position right now to sink or swim. I know we've got a lot of fight in us. We've got some great veteran leaders and they've been in spots like this before, so we're going to call on their leadership [and] call on our coaching. Great job today too from Schotty [Brian Schottenheimer] and Cav [Matt Cavanaugh]. [They had] just unbelievable play-calling in that last drive, so [it's] sink or swim [and] find a way to find a way."

Of course, Sanchez still faced questions after giving his speech. And the first question was, well, why give a speech?

"It just hit me after this game the way our season is going [and] the message that we want to send," Sanchez said. "That's the bottom line to us. That's what Rex [Ryan] said to us. He said, 'It's sink or swim.' This is it. It's up or down, win or lose or whatever you want to call it. We're in a position right now where we need to win some games and win a lot in a row."

Still, we're not sure why he opted for prepared remarks. It could be a sign that he doesn't like being asked a bunch of questions after a crappy performance.

And if that's the case, he's playing in the wrong city.

In the 5 losses, the Jets have lost by a combined 28 points. Take away the Saints game, 4 losses by 14 points.

Considering a couple of these games are without the big man in the middle, its been good. You have to be excited for the future.

Also, DeVito is a player. GREAT role player/back up, glad he is on the team
