I don't mind Crosby. I don't think he's excellent or anything, but he's fine. Raw %s don't mean much because he kicks in terrible weather more often than most kickers, and finding a guy that is pretty good at kicking in a blizzard is important when you're focused on January football (hopefully w/ Lambeau HFA the next handful of years).

I hope we resign Cullen. I'd take him over JJ if i could pick one. Jennings/Driver/Jordy/Cobb is fine with Finley coming back. In fairness I don't really care too much about resigning anyone that's not a lock starter or has monstrous potential - TT's going to sign like 10 undrafted-free-agent-superstars in this year's crop to replace all the expensive mediocre guys we're releasing.

I like Crosby, don't understand the hate. When he goes out for a kick under 50, I am confident.

Taking out blocks, and 50+ yard fgs he is an 87% kicker. It's not like GB is the easiest place to kick either.

i think he can make 60 yarders too

In december, into the wind, JUST SHORT. Still makes me mad I wanted him to get that. Is it technically a field goal though, and would you get the record for it?

UPDATE: Chillar released. Hamstring injury caused him to be cut for salary cap (rather than being moved to PUP list)

I don't think he is great, but if he's not top ten he's certainly in the top half of the league. He makes me a little nervous, but trying to find a new guy, or dusting off Olindo Mare is scary.

Off topic, but who was the kicker before Longwell, and who replaced him? As far as I remember they were terrible.

EDIT
n/m. It turns out that Longwell replaced Jacke (coulda sworn there was somebody in between. Maybe Longwell sucked his first year?), and the guy that made me like Crosby was Rayner. Didn't like the cut of his jib at all.

There was some guy named Conway. I dunno if he got cut during preseason or whatever, but we definitely had a PK named Conway... Brett Conway I think

edit: Here he is, looks like he never played a regular season game for us. lol 3rd round draft choice.

Longwell was pretty rough to start. I remember him costing us at least one game vs. a rival... Vikings maybe?

Updates:

Tauscher cut. gg!
Corey Hall to the 'Aints.

All draft picks (including Sherrod and Cobb) signed EXCEPT 3rd round pick Alex Green.

Lions reportedly pursuing Nick Barnett. Honestly, with Chillar gone and no depth at ILB, I'd like him back, but not gonna happen most likely.

Also, MM and wife welcomed a new baby girl to their family the day before training camp. Good timing Mike!

Elsewhere in the league, Patriots appear to be improving and Philly just looks f***ing scary!

Lost the 2nd game of 1997 season to the Eagles 10-9, Longwell was 3/4 - not sure if the missed one was a game ender.

Other losses that year were 26-15@DET and 41-38@LOLColts - remember that game well. 8-2 Defending Super Bowl champions against 0-10 Colts - probably the worst loss of the Favre era (in terms of LOLWTF, not magnitude. Obv magnitude would be later that year losing the SB as a 14 point favorite to Elway's diving ass)

^^^ C Jenkins gone... to the Eagles. WTF? Eagles decided just to sign everyone available? Asomugha, Rodgers-Cromartie, Samuel (for now), and now Jenkins...

For Packers: All draft picks signed. Not that it matters much, but Brett Swain and Spencer Havner also signed.

Kuhn resigned. Barnett to Bills.

Apparently they're giving Sherrod first team LG reps as well as some LT reps.

Clifton-Sherrod-Wells-Sitton-Bulaga sounds pretty good. WR depth is insane (+Finley!). Grant+Starks+Kuhn should be solid RB corps. Defense looks good except DE and ILB are pretty thin.

Ask and you shall receive.

As a proud owner of a #2 Mason Crosby jersey, I'm most pleased to see him resigned.

Crosby's sheer number of attempts from 50+ really do hurt his numbers, though. In 4 years, Crosby has 21 attempts from 50+. For comparison to other cold weather kickers, David Akers has 35 attempts, total, in his 12 year career. Robbie Gould has 9 attempts in his 6 year career. Rian Lindell with 33 attempts in 11 years.

Crosby's big leg is bound to come in handy as hit puts every KO out the back of the endzone, too, this year, with the new rules.

What is the new rule: KO from the 35, but TB out to the 25?

+1 to all of this... Barring injury, we are OK at ILB. I'm not confident about the DE spot though. Just need to watch what happens, I guess.

Even if we are thin at a certain position, after what TT pulled off last year, I don't have many doubts that those holes would be filled very quickly in a worst case scenario.
Green Bay Packers - Fired McCarthey Quote
07-31-2011 , 11:53 PM
^^^ Agree. Look at Walden/Zombo at ROLB last year. I'm sure we'll fill those holes, just not sure how or with whom. Will be fun to watch.
Green Bay Packers - Fired McCarthey Quote

They can fill holes at those positions, except DE. If Neal goes down/sucks or Pickett goes down, all they have is CJ Wilson and Jarius Wynn, both of whom did absolutely jack-**** last year.

this offense is gonna be sick - Jennings, Finley, Jones, Nelson, Kobb, and Driver as like a 4th option? this season can't start soon enough
