Yeah, I bailed on the party I usually attend for this reason. There are always people walking in front of TVs, blabbering about random crap, etc. I never end up seeing more than 60% of plays over there - don't care if two random teams, but no good this year.

Hosts are Steeler fans too, so I'd kinda feel bad about being a huge dick upon victory. Obv as lone Packer fan I'd have taken unreal amounts of **** from all neutrals as well. **** that. I went over there, said hello to everyone, entered some pools, ate some wings, and drove home just in time for coin toss.

When the Packers won in 1997 (1996 season for the nits), I was in college and didn't go to the Super Bowl party with all my friends. I stayed in my apartment, wore my cheesehead, and cheered alone. I didn't want to watch with a bunch of non-Packer fans.

The following year, my roommates and I hosted a party. I was ok with it since I had my moment the previous year.

I need to get the game cleared off the DVR, since it's taking up a ton of room. I transferred it to a DVD, but since it's so long, I had to make it crappy quality. Therefore, I am now recording on the highest quality and putting it on 4-5 DVD's. Super Bowl box set!

I watched alone in 97 (was 12), then had a super bowl sleepover birthday party in 1998, one of my buddies was a Bronco fan, and I spent basically all night talking **** to him. That turned out well.

Collins GOAT. I forgot about his openfield beast tackle on Wallace to hold them to 3 after his pick-6. Huge play.

Yeah, probably a good idea. Not an option for me though since the party was hosted by my girlfriend and she put a ton of time and effort into planning and inviting and making a ton of food, which was really awesome. Like you said, would have been pretty fun any other year

edit, oh and BEAT: I got drunk before the game and forgot to record it on my DVR. God ****ing dammit.

You're telling me that didn't come into your mind, AT ALL? With Bush and Lee at CB, this was all I could think about.
Yeah this was exactly what I was thinking about the whole time, the only difference is that Ben was on fire the whole game last year

I'm kind of bummed about this...no disrespect to Shields but I don't think you can just "replace" a guy like Woodson.

Yeah, I'll definitely pick up either a DVD or a d/l of the game in full in HD at some point. If I owned a bar, I'd set up a TV in the corner and play said DVD on loop for the rest of the year.

Woodson is not "replaceable" as such, because you don't just replace HOFers, but I can see Shields developing into an acceptable substitute. I'd still like to draft a CB, can never have too many. TT will go BAP anyway, so not a big deal - I'm rooting for OL/Ingram/OLB/Elite-Returnman* over a CB in 1st though. Seems like there are a wealth of pretty good linemen to choose from - Carimi makes sense.

*KR/PR is the only thing I would be pissed if we don't address, but you really don't need to waste a 1st rounder to acquire a good one unless he is awesome or also a reasonable CB or WR. That said, I'm intrigued by Titus Young @ #32.

Yeah I don't see any glaring needs. If Ted signs every one of our important FAs (Jenkins, Jones, Colledge), we honestly could skip the draft. The draft this year is such a bonus. My guess is that Jenkins is back, and either Jones or Colledge is back...but not both.

I've been saying this for quite some time now...I wouldn't swap our roster for any other team's.

The most interesting off-season storyline will be what happens at ILB imo.. Bishop is staying obv. Chillar as well. That leaves one more spot for Hawk or Barnett. One will have to go.

Hawk will have to restructure his contract. Even if he gets traded, no team would pay 10m. I'm guessing Barnett could net a mid-late rounder....no better than a 4th.

I believe I read that Hawk is willing to restructure, so I'd assume it would be Hawk, especially with how well the D performed with him calling the plays. But yeah, pretty much the only real "We need a guy for next season" pick will probably be a PR/KR. Other than that, every other pick is probably going to be for depth alone.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the off season will be interesting. We have a long list of free agents:
  • Cullen Jenkins - Important part of D, imo. Needs a payday or it's back to Jolly.
  • Inside LB - Chillar and Barnett are signed. There is an option out on Hawk's last year, AJ is effectively FA and Bishop is too. I hate to see talent go, and this group is all talent, but too much in one spot.
  • James Jones - Great speed and separation, but real inconsistent. Keeper? I would like to see him stay, but at the right price.
  • Charlie Peprah - SB showed limited depth to the strong secondary. We get Burnett back, but can we afford to lose Peprah?
  • Jason Spitz - Can play G or C. Never too much OLine, so probably another keeper.
  • Mason Crosby - The devil you know... like to keep him.
  • And the long list of others - John Kuhn, Daryn Colledge, Korey Hall, Atari Bigby... am I missing any?

On top of free agents, there are some interesting trade possibilities. Matt Flynn almost beat the Patriots! He's a 2012 free agent... sell high? It's nice having a solid back-up for when Aaron gets his bell rung, but TT can probably find a nice back-up somewhere and get something for Flynn now.

As for the draft, OLine, secondary, and KR/PR are all potential areas. With our offense design, a good WR can never be bad. Maybe an OLB upgrade opposite Clay. Also, can we fire Shawn Slocum? Probably won't happen, but both our returns and coverage are frequently awful. I think it's coaching as much as talent.

Bishop will 100% be back. He signed a 4 year 19m deal (bargain imo) like a month after Tramon got his new deal. He's easily the best of the bunch. Spitz is gone imo. IIRC he was pulled during a game this season. I'm sure Thompson could find a better back-up with much better upside.

Bigby is definitely gone. Flynn will probably be back, but someone might make a big offer (2nd rounder?).

Missed Bishop's contract. Hawk gone?

Spitz was injured (neck).

I agree Bigby will go... and think many of the 'others' may not be around either. Not that it matters, but I think Flynn for a good pick could be a smart move.

The good news is SB champs + Finley + Grant/Starks =

ARod, Clay, Woodson, Jennings, Raji, Tramon... the names that are "locked up" are all >>>>>>>>>>>>>> than this year's FA group.

PS - Fire Slocum
Green Bay Packers - Fired McCarthey Quote

I would love Slocum to go away. Masthay GOATing it up probably saved his job though.

I'm interested to see how well Morgan Burnett does. He looked quite promising before the injury. If his injury doesn't have any lingering effects, he could develop into a solid starter...certainly better than Peprah or Bigby.

OLB will be interesting. Zombo appears destined to be a back-up. So I assume that would leave Brad Jones and Walden to duel it out in camp. I'm sure Thompson will look to upgrade in the draft.

I would like to see an upgrade at LG over Colledge...and of course another tackle to groom behind Clifton. Wells had a solid season and Sitton might be the best guard in the NFL. Bulaga looked real good down the stretch and will only get better.

There aren't many guys that 100% won't be on the opening day roster. The only guys that almost certainly won't be back:

Josh Gordy
Josh Bell
Diyral Briggs
Matt Wilhelm
Jairus Wynn
Anthony Levine
Mark Tauscher

Other guys that are unlikely to be back imo:

Dimitri Nance
Robert Francois
Evan Deitrich-Smith
Spencer Havner
Brady Poppinga

Thompson will have some tough decisions on who to keep. 1-2 of the back-up CB/S will probably have to go (Bush, Underwood, Lee, Smith, Martin). One of the FBs is probably gone. Hawk or Barnett obv. They'll probably carry Graham Harrell on the active roster next year.

Also, I wonder if it's the end of the road for Justin Harrell. Ya gotta feel for the guy. His body just doesn't appear to be able to handle the NFL.

I think he gets another shot as long as he doesn't break down in training camp. He's got potential, 3-4 DEs are fairly rare, and he's on a pretty team-friendly contract iirc.
