It's a shame. This loss is entirely on the coaching staff, but everyone is only gonna see "omg they almost won!"

So if you are Rodgers at the end of this season with an contract option, do you stay or do you go? I think you pretty clearly go.

Is that a real thing he could do? If so I might dump the Packers and just be a Rodgers fan.

It's a team option so Rodgers can't leave. Only the organization can opt out but they of course would never do that.

And after that we can just start franchising him if they can't reach a long-term deal. I'm sure he will get another long-term deal.

Rodgers said he wanted to finish his career in GB, iirc, so I doubt he is going to quickly jump ship. Obviously, there is an ~0% chance GB lets Rodgers go.

I wouldn't necessarily be shocked in Rodgers potentially asks for some say in player personnel decisions with his next contract extension, though. That said, with TT looking likely to retire within the next year, I'm not sure how that is going to play out in this situation.

stupid question i've punted around my brain forever:

nick perrys a fine player and I like him at that price. his deal is probably effectively 8 million a year when you consider injury risks/ability to cut him.

guessing big mike makes like 6 mil a year

Why wouldn't the packers make a note to not spend that 60 million in cap space on Perry and just throw 16 million a year at Bill Belichick and see if he bites (obviously he probably wouldn't but you get the point)

I'll hang up and listen

Because the Packers powers that be like Fat Mike as a coach.

Pack was 100-1 to win the SB last week and now they're 50-1.

Why are we so confident we are in now?

Wild card:
Panthers 8-4
Falcons 7-4
Seahawks 7-4
Packers 6-6
Cowboys 6-6
Lions 6-6

We are no lock to beat CLE and even if we do beat the Browns we need to win 2 of the last 3 to go 9-7 as 8-8 is unlikely to get us in.

I think the confidence is more or less joking.

That said, while it's still a longshot to get in, it's at least somewhat realistic. The assumption is that GB has to run the table. Beating CLE is clearly doable. Then, if Rodgers comes back the next week, it's entirely possible to beat CAR, MIN, and DET to finish the season.

Still need CAR to lose one more game against a tough schedule and SEA to lose two (they haven't played yet tonight), also against a tough schedule.

Obviously there are a lot of "if's" here, particularly the one about Rodgers, but if that part happens, the rest isn't crazy. Unlikely for everything to fall into place? Yeah, but not crazy.

Should GB run the table, which is entirely possible should Godgers return after the Browns game, they'll also hold the tiebreak over everyone, except Atlanta.

Head-to-Head against Panthers, Seahawks, and Cowboys. Better Conference record than Detroit.

I forgot Atlanta has been sinking. Need them to lose two more and they play the Saints twice, at Carolina and at TB.

Of course, we all know Josh Gordon will go for 200 on us next week.

Even at 7-6 I don't think we bring Godgers back. 10-6 isn't going to get GB in

I agree. My Browns fan friend sent me a pic of his shirt today. Seems relevant.

I think winning out gives GB about a 50-60% chance to make the playoffs. If Rodgers is ready they start him next week

I think odds are good to get in playoffs if we're 10-6. Tougher part will be winning at Carolina. We're only 1 game out of Seattle/Atlanta for the 6th seed. Seattle has to play Rams next week. Atlanta still has to play at NO. Carolina plays at Atlanta Week 17. Some how we seem to beat anyone in a tiebreaker except Atlanta.

if it's fair to make packers -2 faves @CAR, -3 vs MIN, -3 @ DET then they're like 20%* to win out?

This is exactly my point. Atlanta and Seattle are currently the 6/7th seeds. Means not only does GB need to win out but they need AT LEAST one of ATL/CAR/LA to lose 2 out of its last 3 (plus needs Seattle to lose at least 1 game). Quite likely they'll need more help than that. I don't see it happening.

If Rodgers is cleared to play why wouldn't you play him? I don't get the argument for sitting him just because the playoff chances are not a complete lock.
