It's actually a 6/69m deal because the last year of his rookie deal is included. It's 5/66 in new money though.

He's def worth it

Hi guys. Decided to try and get into NFL because it seems awesome and going to be following the Packers. My uncle lives in Milwaukee and is a huge fan so seems appropriate.

Two reasons for this post.

1) If anyone could PM links to full matches of recent Packers matches that would be great. There's a site I use for soccer but most NFL links aren't hosted anymore and maybe someone here might know somewhere else I can go? Google hasn't been my friend.

2) If anyone can recommend some books or links regarding the history of the Packers. Something more extensive than Wikipedia. Obviously I can piece together from various Internet links but recommendations are always better. Also any good reads regarding tactical aspects of the game too or just any good NFL reads.

Probably won't post much until I feel I have an good / advanced understanding of the game, rules and tactical plays.

Thanks in advance if anyone responds.

Here's a quick quiz I made up to help determine if you have what it takes to be a Packers fan:

1. How many times should the Packers run the ball a game?

A. 0 B. 10 C. 20 D. It depends

2. 3rd and 1 what play should they call?

A. Run B. Quick slant C. **** it I'm going deep D. Gotta take the points and kick the FG

3. 4th down and <5 yards to go, you should

A. Punt B. Punt C. Field Goal D. Let your Super Bowl and MVP winning QB throw the ball

4. Your kicker hasn't made a FG in 3 games and you're facing a 55 yarder in a heavy wind, you should

A. Kick the FG B. Punt C. Fake the FG and have the kicker throw a pass to the 4th string TE

Thanks, I'll attempt that quiz when I feel suitably prepared.

horrorshow nicely sent me a PM so I'll be able to watch some spoiler free games soon and try and make sense of this sport.

Your first lesson is they are games, not matches.

That quiz was meant as a joke, but the questions may get you thinking about basic strategy. FYI- the answers to those questions may be different for the packers than they will for most of the other NFL teams in the same way tactical questions would be different for Barcelona and most other soccer teams.

Oh, and if you ever think "wait, why the heck did McCarthy/Black Chilly/Mexican Chilly/Norv/Romeo make that decision, makes no sense to me" you shouldn't necessarily think that your deficient understanding of the game is to blame for the logical disconnect.

Regarding Rodgers extension

Quote:
The deal is for $110 million over five years, with $62 million in the first three years and a whopping $40 million this season. Rodgers' $22 million average beats Flacco's annual salary of $20.1 million.

22 mill a year, not bad considering rumors had it at about $25 million a year.

Surprised they have the cap space to pay him 40 million this year, but that means he only counts $11 million towards the cap the next two seasons. Good/great deal, a bit shorter than expected but that's fine, 5 years is a long time in a sport where injuries is part of the game.

Agreed. This seems like the best case scenario, in terms of how the deal is structured.

How do we think this is relevant to competing with the Niners this year?

Wow incredible deal. What's the cap hit by year, anyone know?

Now the article says it's a true extension, that the 5 year-contract is in addition to the 2 years still left on his old contract, so he's signed through 2019-season. Can that be the case? He is severely underpaid right now, at about 10 million a year or something. I figured they would tear up the old contract with the new one in place.

Yeah, sounds like it. Rodger's tweet says it's been a great 8 years, looking forward to 7 more. So yeah.

That takes that contract from good to great. Fair value should be about $25 mill a year, but they get him for an average of $18.6 million over the next 7 seasons. Assuming they don't renegotiate the contract in 4-5 years, and he is able to play at his high level when closing in on 40 that deal will look even greater when they cap is rising and other QBs are getting $25-30 a year. I think I just went from loving Aaron to being in love with him.

This is a good Packer fan litmus test: How many millions of dollars would it take for ARodg to give up on his contract extension if you were to blow him one time?

My guesses:

SenorKeeed: 43
Bedreviter: 37
nofear: 15
schu: 28
knivesout: -.00005

Hm, I finally came across a Packer-related question I don't really want to give much thought

They have to really screw up in the draft today (unlikely) for the Packers to not be one of the (if not the) biggest winners in the NFL this weekend. I'm probably the only one here hoping a RB will be picked tonight btw

Godgers extension awesome.

I like our draft a lot so far, we really needed the DE upgrade, and if we're going to ESTABLISH we might as well do it with a real back.

OK. I'm not freaking out or anything. But we just took a RB in the second round.

They just made sure that Rodgers is a Packer for the next 7 years, so I'm glad they are taking a chance with Lacy. Having a somewhat credible running game should mean less sacks on Rodgers, and that is a very high priority.
