I don't have a problem with running to kill clock. What drives me crazy is that he leaves no doubt in anyone's mind that he is running. Rodgers has enough juice in the league that if the other team thinks there's a chance of a pass, they won't load the box. When McCarthy sends out the jumbo package, everyone knows that he is running.

balanced formation/personnel run = good idea

Rodgers, Starks and a bunch of fat guys = may as well take a knee and avoid injuries

it's just so annoying when he comes out of the gate on sunday and thrashes the bears through the air and then gets into run-run-pass mode when there is really no need to take his foot off the pedal quite yet.

also annoying when we get something like a 2nd and 4 and he goes run-run when you'd have to think going pass-pass or even run-pass increases the odds of getting a 1st down by a huge percentage.

There is no reason why a team as good as the Packers should have to constantly let teams back into games in the 4th quarter. Either they can't handle pressure, or the playcalling is the problem. I used to get mad at the Patriots for running up the score, but McCarthy needs a little of BB in him. The Packers let their foot off the opponent's throat way too often.

BB is probably too aggressive for his own good. See the 4th down plays from "A football life."

If people want to blame a unit for some of our close losses, they should blame the D (followed by ST). Go back and look at some of the close losses we've had and look at how piss poor the D held up when asked to hold a lead late in the 4th. I always laughed at the criticism of AR in close games because he actually has been very good. The D has generally let the team down.

Even this year, look at the NO game. What the hell were they doing being that close to scoring a TD down 8 at the end of the game? We were up 15 with 5 minutes left. That should be an auto win.

Against Carolina, they got the ball down 14 with 2:14 left and we let them drive 83 yards and score a TD with 37 seconds left so that we actually had to recover an onside kick.

Well part of that is that the defense's fault, but another part of it is the fact that the other team's offense is virtually guaranteed to get the ball back with two minutes because we sure as heck are not getting a first down when MM is running three times and the defense knows it. If we threw in like 30% passes in those situations we'd actually be able to run down the clock more effectively because it would keep the defense from being able to really load up against the run.

And BB's "overaggressive" fourth down calls are actually expert:

http://www.advancednflstats.com/2009...-vs-colts.html

The fourth and 2 against the Colts wasn't actually a close decision, according to the Advanced NFL stats guy's model, if the Pats go for it they win the game 79% of the time, compared to winning 70% of the time if they punt. Of course it seems insane compared to NFL conventional wisdom and a coach like MM would punt in that spot without even thinking about it. Which is exactly what I'm bitching about.

Aaron Curry on the trading block. Schneider and Ted are buddies so maybe they'll work a deal. I doubt Ted would give up more than a 5th or 6th. I'd like to see what Greene/Moss and Capers can get out of him. We'll have an open roster spot whenever they decide to IR Collins, though LB is already crowded. Cut Brad Jones one tiiiiiime.

Looks like Bulaga and Grant are going to sit versus Denver. Newhouse will have his hands full with Miller. If Dumervil and Bailey are able to play, Rodgers might have to actually try. Starks better bounce back and we'll probably see Alex Green in action for the first time.

Just wondering if anyone knows where i could find odds on the packers going undefeated in the regular season, tried searching around and couldn't find anything. Not saying it's going to happen, but looking at the schedule with the right odds I think it could be a good bet. Thanks if anyone can help.

Not sure how we manage to keep this game close, but I'm sure Denver will have the ball down 8 with 3 minutes left somehow.

Unless the Pack are looking ahead it will be a blowout.

Haven't you been watching for the last 20 years? We don't do blowouts.

I mean, we had 5 of them last season. Two were so bad they got the opposing coaches fired

Just doing a quick look, GB had 5 last year and 5 or 6 the year before, can't ask for much more than that

Yeah, but still. :P

I know that they have blowouts, but doesn't it feel like they always let teams back into games, or does everyone think that of their favourite team?

I don't remember but I'll let you know when the Bronco's are good again. Don't worry about a Bronco comeback, Orton doesn't have it in him, he can move it between the 20's during garbage time as well as anyone though.

Was at Oneida last night, this guy walks in wearing this signed Desmond Bishop jersey, and I tell him, "hey, that's cool..." and he's like "well, he's my son". Turns out he was actually wearing the Super Bowl ring and holy **** that thing is huge.

Loved the fact that the Packers were still attacking, instead of going run-run-run-punt with the lead. According to Sims, Rodgers apparently talked to McCarthy about wanting to finish teams off. Guess McCarthy listened.

Slammed Denver. That's good. Atlanta scares me a bit. They are traditionally tough at home, are getting desperate, and will certainly want some revenge. Pack better bring their A-game next week. Our secondary is causing me to lose sleep. Apart from lots of picks, we look pretty bad this year.

Ready for Sunday night!

Jordy deal is quite good. Now I wonder what happens to JJ and Driver. Kinda feel like Jones is going to get traded at some point. Cobb is too good to leave that far down the depth chart.

Starks and Shields are awesome again. Peprah luckboxed an INT! Newhouse had a rough day; that's to be expected when you're up against Von Miller. Rodgers MVP obv. Alex Green confirmed that this is Grant's last year in GB.

They realllllllly need to get Finley locked up soon. He wants to be the highest paid TE in the league. He's top 3 easily and probably #1, but Ted doesn't want to pay thaaat much for him. Salary cap could be an issue after this season as well...Matthews is in line to get a new deal after the season, maybe Jennings too. Could be Driver's and Clifton's last years so that would save some cash.

I thought McCarthy called a great game, especially that onside kick, Broncos were totally off guard and Crosby kicked a beauty. Right now their offense looks like the 2008 Pats but w/ more offensive weapons.

Jordy deal is good.
Driver will be asked to retire gracefully (probably sooner than later).
Clifton will be done soon... hopefully Sherrod can deliver.
Matthews will be kept, I think.
Finley is tough. My guess is he wants more than we will offer. Finley seems more about Finley than the team, and we won a SB without him. So, if he gets $$$$ elsewhere, he could be gone. How does franchise tag work in new CBA?

EDIT: And I have no idea where JJones fits in. His extension seems very odd since he's now #4 at best.
