Apparently the extension was granted during the season a la Jeff Fisher.

Packers president says "Fat Mike is our coach. He's our guy". They might hire a new GM but doesn't sound like the GM will be in a position to get rid of fad mike

From a Journal Sentinel article

Quote:
Saying he will keep an open mind while selecting Ted Thompson’s replacement as Green Bay Packers general manager, president Mark Murphy made it clear Tuesday that candidates don’t need to have a scouting background to be considered.
sure, why not

Quote:
The Packers have never had a general manager who wasn’t a player, on-field coach or scout and their last two, Thompson and Ron Wolf, had decades of experience evaluating talent before taking over the job.

The only thing Murphy will require of his hire is that he accept Mike McCarthy as his head coach.

literally the only job requirement is swearing a loyalty oath to FAT MIKE

Welp. Godgers having only 1 ring will go down as the biggest disgrace of this franchise.

Seems like the extension for fat Mike is just like what the Lions did for caldwell so he's not a lame duck going into next year

shockingly, Green Bay has the slowest receiving corp in the NFL. Of course they do.

Wow, McCarthy allegedly has threaten to quit if Russ Ball gets the GM job.

Quote:
Another source also told McGinn that McCarthy told his staff Thursday that he “planned to leave Green Bay for another job” should Ball ascend to the GM seat
I'm not going to pretend to know who the best GM candidate is but I was previously against Ball getting the job due to his lack of scouting experience. Now I f***ing love the idea, especially if he keeps Gutekunst or even brings on a solid coach who can make personnel decisions.

Well I am a little concerned with putting a guy in charge of the roster that is wea in evaluating football talent. I don't care who the coach is, winning a Super Bowl with an inferior roster is like not going to happen. I suppose it depends on how they structure the front office though. To me, better to get a really top notch GM and let them evaluate McCarthey. Pretty sure they would see the flaws with him. McCarthey is Thompson's guy not the next GM's guy.. McCarthey is probably at best a lame duck coach.

I agree with all that. But I would feel better about it if Ball keeps Gutekunst who has a background in scouting. And TT is still around to help with the draft.

My dream scenario is Belichick leaves New England with all the Brady and Kraft drama happening and replaces MM. He could make all the talent decisions like he does in NE and Ball could handle the financial side of things.

Fill in the blank with the highest number that you feel would still make GB better off:

I would offer NE their choice of any _____ non-Godgers players for belichick if he would sign a 10 year deal.

I was actually hoping they would get Gruden but not at the price tag the Raiders are paying. I wonder if it would’ve taken anything less than 10/100m to get him out of the booth.

So it's Brian Gutekunst. I need to learn how to pronounce that name so I can curse it on draft day.

Ball is promoted to director of footbaw operations and he and Gutekunst both report directly to Murphy. McCarthy also now reports directly to Murphy, meaning that Gutekunst does not have the authority to fire FAT MIKE even if he wanted to. McCarthy is effectively promoted after a losing season and 5 years of underachieving mediocrity. Bad!

Taking a page out the Browns football organization manual. No joke. Browns have the same structure more or less. Hue Jackson at 1-31 kept his job as a result. Wowser. This is bad.

Trade away a player in a position we need for a player in probably the last position we need someone (since we only need a QB if Godgers is hurt and if Godgers is out we suck).
