It's not great, but it's his first year in the majors, and they had him on a pretty tight pitch count. He pitched a lot of 4 and 5 inning games where he would've seen the top of the order at a higher % than someone who goes longer.

Probably just the pool of players who struggled is massively larger than the natural talent. The skillset required to hit big league pitching is significantly different than what it takes to manage a team.
