And the Ausmus era comes to an end. It was a fun 10 years we had watching competitive baseball for a while. Maybe I'll watch again in a couple more years if they can rebuild, but I have zero faith in this whelp of a GM. This collapse was an inevitable outcome of firing Dombrowski and replacing him with one of his underlings.

I was huge DD supporter, but the current situation was engineered by him and Mr. I.

They knowingly sold out the future for chances to win in '12-15. If they'd won we wouldn't care; its the price of winning, but variance kicked their asses and now we're in for a long few years. Not that I'm impressed with Avila's pitching acquisitions.

The problem with Avila is that he relies on an abstract formula for success.

He is either looking for guys with a strong track record, thereby completely ignoring that it was achieved by using PEDs, or he is adding variance by signing former no.1 draft picks that have massively underperformed so far. For selecting the manager they also go by a proven formula: Former catcher, big league veteran, looks good in front of a camera.

You can watch the results of this "basic strategy" on a daily basis. We get outperformed by teams that select their players and staff by raw talent and not some bull**** on paper.

Nice stats for JV so far: 4-0, 0.64 ERA, 0.571 WHIP.

Since we don't have reason to believe that JV went through yet another fountain of youth or learned how to pitch all of a sudden, this must be a clear indicator how bad our analytics are and all the decisions, including pitch selection and defensive positioning.

Ok, they don't have Castallanos on the field, but he isn't responsible for everything.

Gardi is a good manager. The situation dictates to keep losing, but at least we won't look like complete idiots in doing so.

We got a lock on drafting the most promising pitching prospect since JV, so things could turn around rather fast. Rocker threw 98 at the age of 17. Give this guy a couple of years and he will throw 105. That will make Gardi look like a genius in the dugout.

Bit of an odd hire in that I'm kind of surprised Gardenhire would take the job; he's a perfectly fine manager but at this stage of his career I'd wonder why he would come back just to get his ass kicked. Maybe this bodes decently for trying to reload some in free agency, because they must have had a better pitch to him than "hey, you can help us lose only 92 games next year".
