Zimmermann is obviously overperforming right now and it will be interesting where he levels out.
With the long-term contract Verlander will not risk going on juice again, so he won't be above average for a long time to come. With him it will be similar to the A-Rod story in NY.
Sanchez is basically done. He suffered an injury that also happens to people who overuse steroids and he hasn't recovered from it ever since. He was great with a fastball at 95-96, but he is not when he throws around 91-92.
Greene is simply lacking control and I don't see any chance for improvement.
Pelfrey is just a front office blunder. You can't sign the worst pitcher from the Twins and expect a miracle to happen.
Norris was a gamble that didn't pay off. His treatment requires him to take hormones which basically screwed up his metabolism. It could have gone either way though.
The only chance we got right now is to take a shot with Fulmer and to give Parnell a second try as closer. They are both doing well in Toledo at least.
I think I kinda know what the front office is doing. They are trying to assemble a team of former very high draft picks. Unfortunately many of these former 1st-rounders were on juice back in the day when they were picked. I don't count Verlander anymore, but Upton was 1st overall. Pelfrey was a former 1st-rounder, Maybin and Salty too and Castellanos of course. Fulmer is also a 1st rounder! Zimmermann, Gose, Norris and McCann are former 2nd rounders.
Joba was a 1st rounder too btw
