LOL, NOPE. A total of four posts for the season.
So it was yet another non-playoff season, but there are plenty of reasons for optimism.
Starting with the front office, they appear to have a clue. Not perfect, of course, but a step up from the Avila era.
Hinch is good, Fetter is VERY good.
On offense, there are a few pieces. One long slump notwithstanding I think Meadows can hit enough and he's a plus defender. Greene and Carpenter give them three fifths of a very good outfield. Baddoo is what he is. Tork isn't going to be elite but he's a MLB caliber player. Some of the role players like Vierling and Ibanez showed some things.
Losing Cabrera's contract is a big plus. Now if they could just lose Baez's as well we'd be cooking with gas. Since that isn't happening, it would be nice if he could stop being about the worst offensive player in baseball.
Pitching-wise, Skubal is potential ace material, Olson had a really good season. Too bad ERod is most likely going to opt out, he's a great 1 or 2. Probably need to move on from WOATZ and Turnbull but neither will be a great loss. There are some live arms in the pen and many of them should be back.
Some intriguing hitters down on the farm, good to see Erie win the AA title.
Finishing 2nd, winning more games than 2021 and dominating against AL Central opponents are all things to be happy about.
Looking forward to 2024. Add another bat or two and find an ERod replacement and contending for the division is a possibility.
