If Goff cant throw the ball, perhaps he should be replaced by someone that can.

I can't think of anything that shows less confidence in your backup QB than leaving a barely effective and injured Jared Goff in this game.

The Steelers best DB was out most of the game and their secondary was already a weakness and they take no deep shots.

Somehow our kicker get hurt during the bye week and the backup misses an xp and then an ot fg in a tie game. That's definitely some lol Lions.

Somehow we fade 0-17 and don't slide draft position, so that's cool.

We will likely have a new QB for Sunday's game! It's Tim Boyle time. I had only heard and watched a bit of him in the preseason, and it was not particularly impressive. Here's what I've found out about him.

He sucked in college. Like laughably sucked. 12 TD's and 26 INT's in 4 seasons. How does that become an NFL QB? I have no idea. I'm sure his teams were complete garbage, but wow.

Then he somehow makes it onto Green Bay's roster as a UDFA and is a 3rd stringer for 2 years, never really playing. He comes here and essentially wins the backup job but injures his finger and is on IR until now. He's back, and apparently the guy this Sunday. His Lions preseason wasn't as bad as his college days, but nothing impressive either.

The one thing I've heard about him through training camp is he apparently has an absolute cannon of an arm and can make some amazing throws. So my expectations for Sunday are a guy with little NFL experience and poor pocket presence probably making some really dumb decisions in the pocket, but hopefully slinging it downfield where Jared Goff can't. His scouting report reminds me a lot of Scott Mitchell. Can do amazing things with his arm in a clean pocket, but once it breaks down it's game over. With Myles Garrett on the pass rush, this could get ugly. I'm expecting a lot more heavy sets with ground and pound this week. But maybe, just maybe, we see a few deep shots taken for once.

I'm not sure if I should be proud of this coaching staff for actively trying to tank or if they think consistently running draw plays on 3rd & 10+ while trailing in the 4th quarter is actually winning football.

As for the Tim Boyle debut, not good, but I can't say objectively it's any worse than Goff has been. He at least takes a few deep shots here and there. Given the same amount of game experience could he be better? Maybe. At least he knows how to find our pro-bowl TE across the middle, something Goff has all but given up on for some reason. His one shot down field was into double coverage at a receiver with no separation and undersized for going after the 50/50 balls, but at least it looked like a bomb thrown by an NFL receiver instead of a wobbly duck that goes 15 yards.

Some credit goes the defense for holding the Browns to 13 points, but Baker had a really bad day. Our best 2 CBs are quickly becoming the pair of UDFA's (Parker & Jacobs). Oruwariye continues to be unimpressive. He was beat by 5 yards on his interception, which just happened to be the same distance that Baker missed his throw by. While the pass rush hasn't been great, it's better than we've had in recent years with 4 man rushes, and some well timed blitzes were effective. Chubb got a lot of yards on the ground, but the safeties did a good job of keeping him from breaking a big one.

Aaron Glenn gets some credit for getting the most out of the current defensive talent. I'd like to say the same for Dan Campbell and Anthony Lynn on offense, but it's like they aren't even trying. At some point you have to give you players a fighting chance to do something. The last few weeks have been way too conservative. While it's kept games close against better teams, it's not enough. You've got to at least try to go for the win at some point.

Thing I don't get is why this staff likes Boyle, he's clearly terrible. Not saying Blough is anything to write home about but at least we've seen him go out and move a football up and down the field before.

At this point I genuinely have no clue how to feel about the Lynn offense simply because I don't think we've seen it run by an even semi-competent NFL QB with a group of WR's that are obviously worst in the league.

On a positive note, Swift is the first Lions RB to run for 100+ in back to back games since Kevin Jones in 2004 lololololol

Do we still think Dan Campbell is the right coach? He doesn’t seem to understand how the clock or the rules work.

The last three games have been very bizarrely coached. On one hand they held them close, which I think is the right formula for playing against better teams. Try and control the clock and take away big plays to keep it low scoring and then hope a bounce goes your way to push you over the top. But even if you keep it close for 55 minutes, in the last 5 you have to try and play for the win, and they haven't really done that.

The double timeout with the defense having no clue WTF is going debacle in this one was pretty bad.

This was the kind of stuff that doomed the Caldwell and Schwartz regimes. Undisciplined play can lead to high variance. It reminds me a lot of how they went from 10-6 in 2011 to 4-12 in 2012, and then 11-5 in 2014 to a 1-7 start in 2015. Those teams had plenty of talent, but poor coaching decisions and undisciplined play leading to several close losses against good teams.

At this point I'd call it a wash. Decent game plans that keep it close against superior teams, but poor late game decision making turning those close games into losses. I still say the coaching staff gets a clean pass for just about any outcome this season given the shape of the roster (barring any egregious stuff). But if they are making mistakes like this late into next season, the seat should start warming up.

I like Campbell as a guy, seems like a good dude. Jury still out on his head coaching abilities at this point. One thing I know for sure is I don't want Aaron Glenn to go anywhere! He's schemed up some fantastic game plans against some teams that should've blown him out of the water.

Even good coaches screw up a lot. But these were the kinds of mistakes that can torpedo a good season. When you're consistently playing one possession games, miscommunications and mental errors can be the x-factor.

Aaron Glenn does deserve some credit, but they also got torched by the Bengals, Rams, and Eagles. I'm still on the fence as to whether the defense in the past few weeks is fools gold or not. All 3 games feel like they could have been blowouts had the QBs not been mostly bad.

What to do with Campbell is tough. It's unlikely they are competitive next year even with a good draft, but 2023 is definitely in play, especially if they can land a good QB. If they are plagued with poor playcalling and decision making next year, I think you want to move on before the team starts to turn the corner.

Mostly. I'd still like to pick first in round 1 & round 2, please.

But congrats to the team. They should feel better tomorrow morning than they have every other Monday morning this year.

He really tried today with that 4th down call. Somehow Goff pulled off the miracle thanks to some horrible Minny defense.

Going for it was the right call

Can't believe all the pussies on sports talk radio this week

Yeah punt it and let MINN kick a FG with -0- seconds left. Great plan.

I'll admit in the moment it seemed optimistic to try and go for it there because if it doesn't work you hand minnesota the game. Although I suppose 4th and inches is a high enough percentage play that even deep in your own territory going for it is fine because it ensures at a minimum you burn 2 more minutes of clock with a real chance of icing the game completely.

But that play call and execution was peak Lions. An unblocked defender off the edge on the side the play was going to. A fake that no one falls for. Goff's first read blanketed in coverage effectively blowing the play up. Goff not realizing the unblocked defender he just sidestepped didn't just **** off and leave the field, he's still right behind him, thinks he has time to wind up for a throw, and gets the ball ripped right out of his hands.

Well yeah execution wise

Lol lions

But I like that we don't have a coach that punts from the +38 yard line at least.

I actually didn't think this game was *that* bad. The only really bad part was the run defense where it seemed that Denver could get 7+ yards on the ground at will. That needs to be cleaned up. Run D has been hit or miss this year. Pass defense was OK, both in pressure and in coverage despite a really banged up secondary. The knee injury to Jacobs looked gruesome. We'll probably get an update later today or tomorrow. If it's as bad it looked best case scenario is he probably starts next year on the PUP list and maybe comes back by week 5 or 6.

The passing offense showed some signs of life as Goff has begun to do a bit more than just check it down, finding Josh Reynolds and Amon-Ra all over the field, and that's without Hockenson. On thing I'm thankful for is that this coaching staff will try some new looks and plays as opposed to Patricia who would just trot out the same **** week after week and get the same results.
