But Goff is bad. It took defenses all of about 3 weeks to figure out if you just pack your coverage at the LOS + 10 yards you can take away all his options. Those Deandre Swift checkdowns in the flat that were going for 8+ a few weeks ago are now 2 to 3 yard gains. He threw one deep ball the whole game, and of course it was underthrown into double coverage that had a much better chance of being an INT than a completion. Unfortunately I think they are going to need to force more throws down field, and Cephus, the only receiver who seems to show some contested catch ability, looks to possibly be done for the year. Hopefully Tyrell Williams is due to come off IR soon. Although lingering concussions are pretty bad. Most guys seem to come out of protocol after about 2 to 3 weeks. When it starts going on longer than that, they have a way of becoming a Javid Best type scenario. Hopefully not. We are already scraping the bottom of the barrel for receiver talent.

They don't feel like an 0-17 team. Although our 0-16 team had a way of keeping games close like this, so who knows.

The 0-16 team was down 21-0 in the first half just about every game.

This team should be 2-3

For astute Lions fans who perpetually know the draft is all that matters, that play where the Lions only rush 3 to ensure Cousins has time and space to make an accurate throw into FG range is the clutchest play of the season so far.

I will give them 1-4 as they played well against Baltimore, but they were dead to rights yesterday until the miracle comeback.

Ragnow out for the season with a toe injury. While I can't really condone in-game tanking, I'm all for shutting down star players for injuries they could otherwise possibly come back from in a competitive year. I have no idea if that's what is happening with Frank, but either way, I'm sure he'll be back and fine next year, and this is a big win for team tank.

I do feel bad for Goff, as much as you can feel bad for a dude who's been paid 8 figures to play sports. Yes, nothing I've seen makes me think he can be an above-average NFL QB. But his make-or-break audition year started with what has to be the objectively worst WR corps in the league, and the injury luck on top has been rough.

Most NFL QB's would probably have given their left nut to helm that 2018 Rams team. Goff was put in a near perfect situation for a new NFL QB, and while he got them to a Super Bowl, it was clear he had too many limitations. It's not all bad for him here. He has a decent O-Line (albeit a currently very injured one) a Pro-Bowl TE, and a pair of effective running backs who are good in the pass game. Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson have it way way worse.

He may get another year just by default here. His contract makes him effectively uncuttable, and all I keep hearing is how this years QB class is weak. If he's really bad they probably take one anyways, but I can see him getting one more year. He might be too far gone to have a Drew Brees style career renaissance at this point though.

I mean you can say they should be whatever record you want but their 0-5. Games that you lose at the end could of been won by better play somewhere else in the game. Bad teams have ways of losing winnable games. Even the Jags should of won vs Cin but they lost in OT.

Sure we have had bad injury luck. Still we had a O/U of 5 wins. This just wasnt going to be a good team. Personally I'd rather be a 0-3 win team getting a top 3 pick then a 5-7win team 6-10 pick. This was always going to be a rough season.

100%, sign me up for trading meaningless wins for draft capital. Maybe there's an argument that you don't want malaise around the team, but in year 1 with a generally well-liked coach from the fan base and media, I don't think even 0-17 puts much heat on him (particularly after the injury luck). I'd be surprised if he doesn't get 3 years.

The biggest thing for evaluating coaches is if the team under or overperforms their talent, and they aren't a complete ****ing clown. I'd say the last "good" coach may have been Bobby Ross? I think I did a coach ranking before and he was up there. So far Campbell is not a clown. His decisions have been mostly OK and I like his approach to the game.

As for talent, it's hard not to look at the players and not think they are a 4 win team at best. With these injuries and some bad luck that went the other way, 0-17 is completely reasonable for an otherwise well coached team. I agree Campbell probably gets 3 years almost regardless of what happens this year. If he really starts bed shitting next year I could see him getting canned after year 2, but otherwise 3 years minimum seems good. We are getting decent production out of the drat class, so there's at least some hope there as well.

At this point I just want some gimmicky running QB or something to make this team watchable. I can't handle watching Goff hold the ball for 10 seconds then throw a 3 yard pass on 3rd and 6.

Hot take on Joey. While he was bad, he was a natural deep ball thrower being shoe horned into a west coast offense.

Goff can't throw the deep ball and is too slow reacting to run a west coast. He's basically worthless in the NFL. In order to be an effective short yardage QB you have to go through your progressions quickly and get the ball out fast. If his first read isn't there he panics. He threw one away on fourth down today.

His best throw of the day was the int where it got ripped out of St browns hands.

I feel like this game was a referendum on Goff. The Lions gave him every chance possible to get him a win against his former team. Two fake punts, an onside kick, and a couple shots on fourth down. The best he could do was 1 TD (where Swift did 98% of the work) and a couple INTs.

This is 6th year as a starter. There's no career resurgence happening. He's done. Stick a fork in him. He's 1998 Scott Mitchell. Just hand him a clipboard and put him behind some UDFA QB who can actually throw a ball.

He's not even as good as Scott Mitchell

There is a reason we got so much for stafford when the rams already had a QB

We should of flipped Goff for a 3rd and took the cap hit when we landed him. I bet someone would of took a chance on him. Hes just not good. Only reason he had a few good statistical season with the Rams was prime Gurley and a great coach made his job ultra easy.

Lol like someone would have paid a 3rd. And then you still have to pay someone to play the position. Goff is exactly who you need to tank for Tua /checks notes … someone.

Yeah the Stafford for Goff trade was 2 firsts and a third. The rumor was that the 2 firsts were for Stafford and the third was what we charged to eat Goff's contract. You can't give Jared Goff away on his current contract. They had to restructure him just so they had cap room to sign the rookie class. We have to pay for the sins of the Quinn/Patricia era this season and the next. After that we can say it's a new era and mostly Brad Holmes' team at that point.

This is pretty much how I'm looking at the scenario. There was some hope that maybe JG could resurrect his career in a different system but it's painfully obvious at this point he's what he is.

I'll say it again, I'm still enjoying watching this team play most every week. Glenn has done a fantastic job with what he's been given on defense! Hell, since they've ditched Collins I'm even happy with the Anzalone/Barnes/JRM linebacker group with what they're asked to do in this system. Give Glenn a stud pass rusher and some speed on the back end and I'm genuinely excited for what he could do.

Also loving the story arc Jerry Jacobs is having. Rookie undrafted free agent thrust into starting role. Sure there's some bumps here and there but the kid has actually done quite well so far.

Yeah Jacobs and AJ Parker have both looked really good for rookie UDFAs. I would almost go as far to say they have both looked better than Okudah. If they can both progress to solid starters that can help make up for us drafting a total busy at 3.

If this the case we should of took the Panthers 1st rounder instead of two late first round picks for Stafford as the value of that pick is much higher. I feel like we gave the Rams the hook up because of a connection to them and the fact Stafford wanted to go there. It was pretty obv that the Rams picks were going to be late first-rounders their always good.

Looking at mocks pretty much all defensive guys at the top. This QB class is busted. Kayvon T is a slam dunk if hes there just a straight elite DE thats a true top tier prospect. Stingley is 2 hes the true top end CB a better prospect then Okudah but man drafting another CB this high feels painful. A top end Safety in Hamilton, a few Dline prospects one being Aden Hutchinson from Michigan. I feel like were going to surely get a impact defender at the top.

Yeah the Panthers deal was always better from a draft capital standpoint. The advantage to the rams deal was (bare with me here) that you get Goff as well. My impression of him at the time was that he was at least starter grade. That gives you some breathing room in your rebuild. But in hindsight the panthers deal was the right one.

I'll give him credit, Goof is the perfect QB to ensure we have 3 top 35 picks the next two years. absolutely love the throw away passes on 4th down. galaxy brain level stuff.

Just dropped in to gauge the temperature of Lions fans, or rather check for a pulse.

Goff is atrocious; I am ready to see Tim Boyle, Cam or Colin Kaepernick at this point. I just don't see any way possible this team could be worse with those castoffs at the helm
