seriously wtf is that deal?

we get a 6th for a 7th?

so we get basically nothing for a LB? Why even make that trade?

The only reasons that make sense involve cap space and "we were going to cut him anyway so we got something for nothing". We'd probably have a cap hit for just cutting him.

But if you're cutting a starting LB, you have bigger problems.

The trade is just as bad for NE. I guess they see Van Noy as an insurance backup for their 3-4.

Bynes is slow, but he at least has his head in the game. Van Noy blows just about every coverage assignment and is part of the reason QBs are picking them apart.

trade is def wtf but in quinn we trust for the time being i....guess?

2nd round starter + a middling 7th for a late 6th i assume? when we're already thin and terrible at LB? let's not forget mayhew traded up for van noy.

hopefully it's a sign levy and chris spielman are close to returning.

well this seems like a good explanation as any:

Quote:
Keeping in mind that KVN is probably on his way to four rings and a HOF career with the Patriots, I can explain the thought process behind the move:
You are going to have five LBs on the roster. Levy is a lock, and Whitehead basically can't be lived without at this point. Antwione Williams was a Quinn draft pick, and I guess Armbrister is okay. Then your fifth is KVN. There are two guys waiting in the wings:
Bostic is on IR, eligible to return in a month or so I believe
Bynes was cut due to injury, but got healthy and is getting re-signed today.
So you want to sign Bynes now instead of later, because this gives him a month to prove that he is worth more than Williams or Armbrister when it comes time to make room for Bostic. Those guys can go to the PS if everyone is great.
KVN is the only known quantity at LB that we aren't happy with. He's lost in coverage, and he isn't strong enough to convert to DE where he'd need to be if he wanted to pass rush. In his 3rd season, he's at a point where he can't ride the draft hype anymore. Bynes was a good coverage LB last year (led the team in tackles in fact), and Bostic has been productive at the NFL level.
So it's trade him now or cut him later.

I predict Levy will play sparingly in one game, probably Jacksonville in a month, suffer no apparent injury, then get put on the IR and retire sometime in the off season.

OMG if they seriously had a Lions 08 preseason undefeated shirt....god that would be classic.

On the front of the shirt something like: 2008 LIONS 4-0 PRESEASON CHAMPS

On the back of the shirt lists each preseason victim and the corresponding score.

They did. I saw one at Ford Field once (on someone, obviously not being sold there)

Theres a few variations of that shirt floating around. My personal favorite had the player name Owen on the back with a #16.

Caldwell should be fired right now for that onside kick.

also fire the entire defense for letting them run the ball for multiple first downs when EVERYONE knows My Client Brock Ostweiler is NEVER throwing.

Why save your tos if youre gonna onside w 3 minutes left vs brock osweiler

Actually given that they couldnt stop the runs everyone knew was coming the onside kick sorta looks like right call. Still fire Caldwell tho.
