Easily the best pick of the draft for us.Not that its hard to beat Heath Miller at pick 8 and drafting a slow Hawaii LB 2 rounds early.

Hawaii five-slow might end up being a worse pick than Tabor

This punt coverage unit gonna be ****ing elite tho.

Im not sure who all these other front office peeps are who actually tell the media, with a straight face, that Tavai was high on their boards and the Lions sniped him. A+ trolling imo.

I feel like someone from the pats org gave our guys some fake intel to make us think he was some lock pick. Quinn thought he was being smooth and sniping bill but really bill is on another level and just owned the noobs.

Can't wait to see what typical Lions things they do in rounds 2-3. The menu includes draft interior OL, WRs with issues, slow DBs, undersized DBs from FCS schools, maybe a massive reach for a LB or something.

This man sees the future.

Really I think we all knew it was going to be Hock. He was the obv Detroit Lions top 10 pick. Sure we hoped like we always do it would be someone else but as always lions gonna lion.

The 2nd round pick was epic fail though. I thought with how much talent was there no way we could screw that up.

Almost time for Quinn to secure his legend by drafting an OL from South Central Vermont State, a punter from Botswana and a QB with a noodle arm.

Things could always be worse, we could have the Giants' GM.

Holy crap, Quinn drafted a DB I've heard of.

I wonder what his 40 time was.

Edit: 4.47 at the combine, notbad.jpg

Whelp, at least it's over. I'll post some more thoughts on the pics later. At first glance:

1. Hockenson - I get it. He's a good TE who instantly improves the production from this position. Only time will tell if it was worth burning the #8 pick instead of trading back or picking Bush/Oliver/Burns.

2. Jahlani Tavai - WTF was this. Quinn is trying to sell this as a "fit" in this defense, which was why they thought NE was also targeting him. I guess the Patricia defense likes old school large framed LBs. But reaching for this guy in what seemed like one of the deepest 2nd rounds in a while was pretty bizarre. He's already being compared to Van Noy. Hopefully he is actually productive here.

3. Will Harris - Safety. Speedy safety whose strength is run stuffing but needs some work in coverage. This could end up being a good pick. Hopefully we see some more 3 safety sets.

4. Austin Bryant - DE. An edge setter who finished the season hurt and didn't participate in the combine or pro days. Decent production in college, but there are questions on his athleticism. He might have a hard time cracking the rotation unless he really shines.

5. Amani Oruwariye - CB. There were a lot of 2nd and 3rd round projections for this guy, and we somehow nabbed him in the 5th. Quinn even said they thought about it in the 4th. This could be the best pick in this draft if he pans out.

6. Travis Fulgham - WR. Sounds a lot like Kenny Golladay. Not exactly a speedster, but good hands and known for making tough catches. He could be a decent rotational piece.

7. Ty Johnson - RB. Speedster who averaged 7.6 ypc in college. High upside here. I expect to see a lot of him in the preseason and could unseat one of our veterans if he kills it.

8. Isaac Nauta- TE. Looked good in college but **** the bed in the combine. Why not.

9. PJ Johnson - DT. Big fat mofo that can backup Snacks and A'Shawn. Might not pan out.

The first two picks were definitely head scratchers that we'll have to wait and see on. The rest seems fairly standard. They did not pick a single offensive linemen, although they did grab Beau Benzschawel who was definitely on some draft boards. Otherwise it seemed fine I guess. It's going to be a tough pill to swallow if Hockenson doesn't put up big numbers and this Hawaiian is as slow as his combine numbers. Hopefully they don't let Quinn get away with this if that's the outcome.

So I let this sink in for a couple days, still scratching my head on the Tavai pick.

Obviously Patricia likes athletic safeties so are they going to run a 4-2-5 and not use Tavai in pass coverage - like purely a run stuffer behind the nose tackle? Maybe he can cover TEs and I just dont see it yet. Obviously the Patriots did well with Hightower in the middle at 270lbs but when I hear analysts compare Tavai (250LB) to Van Noy it makes me want to vomit.

Like the Harris pick a little; actually wrote a post out on Friday morning saying David Long (3:16) or Amani Oruwariye (5:8) would be great fits in the 3rd round but deleted without posting. We need Amani to outperform his draft position and prove he was a steal in the 5th round.

When Quinn gets fired it will be because of that LB pick

A travesty

Does it even matter at this point. There was room for rational hope when Ford died and they brought in Quinn. The hope being that one of the worst organizations in the history of sports miiiight actually start trying to win. I mean you never know right? Now I didn't buy it, but I wasn't laughing at those who believed in this possibility. Well now we know from this draft that this organization doesn't give a **** just like they have ALWAYS not given a **** under the Ford reign.

You know, we live in a super depressing society that destroys the spirit and dignity of billions of people every ****ing day, but for the most part I tune this out becuz I have to if I wanna keep my sanity. But you know what, there's actually something even more evil than destroying one's spirit and destroying one's dignity. There's a line that even the most evil depots throughout history never dare to cross. And that's destroying one's delusions. That's EXACTLY what the Lions did this draft. Like after that draft even the most die hard Lions fans--who are almost certainly on the mentally ill side of the spectrum--can't deny that this organization DOES NOT GIVE A **** AT ALL.

Life is ****ty enough, and yet in the sphere of sports, the Lion's took away, for many, the one thing, the only thing they had left, their delusion. I don't even care about this organization and yet this seriously pisses me off. The Lions had NO RIGHT to do that. I seriously can't even comprehend how an organization I don't even care about can get me all riled up. This organization does not deserve to exist. SOL forever.

I read Pope got a 20k signing bonus and 145k guaranteed which seems insane for a udfa. It seems every year 1 or 2 of these guys manages to crack the roster. BB has to be a favorite, and Carney is a solid prospect too.

Training camp time. Mike Daniels in, Theo Riddick out. Seems like a solid upgrade. Riddick was only sparsely used. The massive upgrade to D Line seems worth it. You can make a playoff run with nothing but an elite D Line.
Detroit Lions: We're Going to Bite a Kneecap Off Quote

I don't think Riddick will be missed. Sub-standard runner, average pass catcher made for predictable play calling when he was in the game. Would much rather have his touches split between Kerryon and CJA.

Adding Mike Daniels to the D-line feels 'too good to be true'. How much better was Detroit defense after trading for Harrison? Now add Flowers, Coleman and Daniels and lose.....well lose basically nobody but 40yo Ansah and 33yo Quin

Whelp. Preseason game #1 looked about as bad as it can get. Not a single backup showed any real potential. Unless they have about the healthiest season of any team in NFL history this year, it looks like i could be pretty nasty.

Somewhere out there is a Lions fan that's trying to justify last night's performance by remembering that the 0-16 Lions were great in the preseason, this must just be the opposite and they're going to PLAYOFF

If you find that fan punch him in the dick.

I figure they've got two more season to become a contender. If they can't pull it off, it's time to reboot the franchise, and that includes Stafford. He'll be in the last year of his megadeal and can be cut or traded.

We might soon see if Martha has the same managerial style as her husband. He was known for having a poor eye for talent, and then hanging on well after it was clear he picked the wrong guy. This was known well before the Millen era. She started off hot by firing the entire front office and bringing in Quinn. But now Quinn is "her" guy. If the team doesn't turn a corner soon, Quinn and Matty P would need to go. While her Husband wouldn't do squat, we'll see if she can pull the trigger and find someone better.

They drafted a TE in the top 10.......again. That's as close as an organization can ever come to saying **** you to their fanbase without actually saying it. The lions aren't even pretending to care. It's over forever unless Fords all get ebola.

It wasnt great. Davis looked like Achilles, so that could be his season. Ragnow Im hearing high ankle sprain. Those can linger. Hopefully he can avoid the PUP list and maybe only miss a couple games.

There is no official word on either yet, so there is still hope it could be better.
