SOL, the draft coverage im watching is the noobs on yahoo. They were all thrilled that it was Hockenson to the lions. Then they follow it up with "hes the next Heath Miller" after we draft. Sweet Heath Miller at 8.

Just so dumb to pass on defense at 8

Great. An “underrated route runner” at TE

and then of course Oliver goes 9

Aaron Donald part 2

I didnt want to believe it but I knew it was happening.

I literally got stacked QQ vs AA as the pick came in.

This dude better be Gronk 2.0 and hope the rest of the D they passed on flop.

I wouldnt of minded Hock if we could of added a extra pick and moved back some. I know theirs some teams would of gave us a late 2nd or extra 3rd to move up a bit.

Right here the steelers trading up to take most likely Devin Bush. We could of traded back that means.

Right now the 2nd rd. is looking good for some Detroit needs. There will likely be some CB, WR, or O-Line options. DK Metcalf was occasionally mocked in the top 10, but has a realistic shot to be there at 41. I could even see Winovich as a viable option here.

I cant wait to see how Quinn ****s up this pick too.

Tons of good players available. J.Taylor is falling, Byron Murphy/G.Williams at corner,Metcalf, and Winovich.

Do I expect us to take any of them? Of course not. They never do what you want them to do in the draft. I bet we trade back and grab some random Guard. If this draft isnt amazing im about over Quinn. His high character drafting is a good route to be 8-8.

Den traded back to 20 and picked up pick 52+ 2020 3rd rounder. We could of chose Sweat at 20 and selected I.Smith in the 2nd if we MUST take a TE.

Rumors are saying our pick had alot of interest so clearly Quinn was talking BS about trading back he was going Hock the whole way. I bet if Allen fell he still goes Hock.

Lets be honest we all knew the whole time it was going to be the TE. Sure we can all talk about we hope they do this and they should do that. The draft is our time for hope that this offseason, this GM, this coach will be different.

What it comes down to is we're the Detroit Lions. We do things like take WR's early in the draft 4 years in a row or spend 3 first rounders in 10 years on TE's. You cant be the worst franchise in football without doing these kinds of things year after year.

Yeah, after having time to digest the whole first round, it still stings. I'm not sure who the offers were from, but the popular rumor was the Falcons coveting Oliver. They could have moved back to 14 and been virtually assured that one of Bush/Gary/Sweat/Burns was still available. Hell, even Hock had a realistic shot at still being there. Or if you are still hell bent on a TE just get Fant there. I don't care if Oliver isn't a scheme fit. When you have someone that good fall into your laps, you either trade, or make him a scheme fit. Instead they hand him to Buffalo on a silver platter.

Taking Hock at 8 when there were so many potential impact players behind him is just typical Lions. I really thought it was different when Martha cleaned house after that embarrassing loss. Hiring Quinn was definitely not an SOL move, but he's brought in his own unique style of keeping this team out of the playoffs. I'm pretty much over him too. Trey Flowers is exciting, but I don't see how him and Hock are enough to get this team to the next level. Like you said, 8-8 feels right, with their ceiling being another 1 and done in the wildcard round, but that's on the good end. This season still has a high potential of being another bed ****ting.

At least looking at the 2nd round there are a ton of players still available that they're going to have a hard time not having someone I want fall to 41. I have a bottle of Jack on standby in case it's Drew Lock or another QB and I want to just drink myself into a coma.

It's really a shame that the first round isn't on a Friday night, hard to get blackout drunk over a typical Lions first round draft pick when you've got to go to work on Friday.

Can't wait to see what typical Lions things they do in rounds 2-3. The menu includes draft interior OL, WRs with issues, slow DBs, undersized DBs from FCS schools, maybe a massive reach for a LB or something.

Give me greedy Williams in the 2nd and I can live with this draft. Clearly doing anything else would of been better with the 8 picks but what’s done is done. Actually quite a few guys I’ll be happy with. If he goes off the board for some high character 3rd round projected player im going to be tilted.

I haven't paid enough attention to know why Greedy slid out of the first round -- some weeks back there were mocks with him going in the top 10 including at 8 -- but I'd be perfectly fine with trading a surplus low round pick to move up and grab him if it's nothing major.

Quinn/Patricia/Bevell have consistently talked about the importance of establishing the run game. with Hockenson they can run a lot of 2 TE sets, if the opposing defense does not cheat for the run the Lions will have a numerical advantage keeping the TEs inline and can run the ball down the other team's throat. if the opposing defense does cheat for the run the Lions can release the TEs and have the numerical advantage on a pass play. Taking a TE lower like Fant or Irv Smith would be more of the Lions' old approach: we'll just get some good players and you'll have some good players and we'll go head to head without a scheme advantage and ultimately end up between 7-9 and 9-7.

Patricia's emphasis on versatility on defense is about being able to stop teams that try to force the previously described numerical advantage, because your defenders can both stop the run and the pass.

Greedy definitely has some negatives, the biggest being his willingness to lower his shoulder and take on a running back. But he is athletic, was productive in college against top notch competition, and is solid in man coverage. He reminds me a bit of Slay. He might take a while to develop but has a high ceiling and checks a major need.

Having a solid front 7 and generating consistent pressure with your front 4 is like the one consistent path towards winning in this league. Right now their front 7 consists of 2 elite players, maybe some OK ones in Davis/Hand, and then some serviceable barely starters. They had a chance to add more elite talent to this group and passed on it to try and open up their offense more.

Maybe it's the right strategy and will work. Maybe they have more faith in their current D than I do. I really want Quinn to prove me wrong here.

Sweet we get the slow 4th round LB. Meanwhile the browns with an awesome GM grab Greedy a few picks later.

Fire Quinn

What kind of stink did greedy have on him? All the CB's went before him.

"Williams then skipped the 2019 Fiesta Bowl to preserve his body and begin preparation for the NFL Draft. At the time, he was a consensus top-10 player on media draft boards. He then fell in public perception as teams questioned his toughness and tackling abilities.

Williams didn’t visit with a single NFL team following the NFL Combine, something rare for a potential first round pick. Williams said Wednesday in Nashville he thought he showed teams everything they wanted to see while at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and at the LSU Pro Day in March."

Cant tackle like slow Teez Tabor. Lions value tackling in the secondary over speed. Sounds like hes a primadonna which isnt necessarily a bad trait on a WR/CB.

Would of been sick to have two elite cover corners with him and Slay. Ahhh well hope our Tight End is the greatest blocking TE ever and the LB is good for us and not the pats.

I actually dont hate the pick. It ignores other needs, but it seems like a solid value pick.
