Preface this by saying I loved Chris Spielman as a player - effort second to none.

****ing horrible announcer. Sounds like a ******ed kid babbling on just excited to be watching an NFL game.

It was infuriating listening to that old man all game

“Oh man if they had golden Tate......”

They had 10 sacks. We could line up rice and moss all day and we are losing this game

Looks like a great trade just a few days out.

WTF is up with this coaching staff. "Hey guys, remember that power run game that won us games vs NE, Miami, and GB? Lets not do that again. Lets stack the playbook with long developing routes and draws to Legarrate Blount"

They fired the special teams coach. Yep, thats been what has been holding this team back. The ship has been righted.

Most NFL players just give the company line in interviews. Stafford is no exception. It's also part of the Matt Patricia culture, which so far I don't like. No more fun TD celebrations.

So this was a thing I said after the Seahawks game, and I take it all back.

This DB play is some of the worst I have seen from a Lions team ever. We probably see a lot of these guys off the team next year. The coaching isn't doing them any favors either. From what I can tell they are playing a lot of man coverage, which they just don't have the skills to play.

Otherwise, I don't really now how this is the same team that's put on some dominant performances against some not bad teams. Other than by saying that the range of outcomes of an NFL game is pretty wide. The Lions are clearly a below average team, but something about their style is making them even more inconsistent than normal NFL teams.

Reminds me of the 0-16 team

Down three scores in the first half every game.

The 0-16 team was definitely a WOAT pass defense, but this team is pretty bad as well. They are in the bottom 10 in just about every meaningful pass defense statistic. Which is frustrating because the run D was so bad before they got Snacks. They still have no one capable of defending the middle of the field in that 5 to 15 yard range. GQ isn't getting it done. Jarrad Davis is quicky approaching bust levels.

In other news, TJ Lang is put on IR, signalling an end to his season and possibly career. Marvin Jones and Darius Slay are both sitting out of practice and likely to miss time or be limited. At this point it's safe to say the tank job is in. I don't hate it. I think as a coaching staff you still need to put in the hours every week to try and gameplan, but rookie playing time should now be a priority. Give your stars some snaps off and start auditioning the rookies for next year.

And finally, there's this. For all the Stafford haters out there (of which I have been occasionally guilty of in this very thread), we see that his team just has not been bailing him out one bit. When he has a bad game, the Lions lose, plain and simple. Great teams don't rely on their QB to win them every game. No QB can. Get this man a good defense and some run support.

That's another W thanks to the opposing kicker getting a case of the shanks. It's not exactly a confidence inspiring win, but I'll take it, given how depleted the offense is. This game probably had the weakest pass catching talent on the field of Stafford's career. I love Theo Riddick, but if he's your #2 pass catching option, you're in trouble.

I'll give them credit for some defensive game planning on this one. They shut down McCaffery and the run game and forced Cam Newton to beat them with their other receivers. They almost pulled it off, but I think it was the right call. The secondary is still awful, but it was nice to see Tracy Walker get another INT. Technically it was his first, but the one from the SF game that was called back on a BS hold counts in my mind.

Hopefully Kerryon Johnson isn't hurt too bad. He's a special talent. He hits the hole faster than just about any RB I've seen.

I'm not letting this thread die just because the season is effectively over. I'm going to enjoy watching the Rams play this weekend.

Some good news is that Jamal Agnew is working his way back. He's been working his way into a big role in the secondary, so even if he only plays the last few games that experience could be invaluable. His return skills are impressive, but if he can be a reliable corner, that could help make up for the disaster that was the Teez Tabor pick.

Here's what I'm hoping to see the rest of the season:
-Development of some of the younger defensive players. Ford, Agnew, Walker, Davis.
-Improvement on the O-Line.
-Stafford stopping his current regressive trend.
-An emergence of another WR. Ellington has been neat so far. Powell is supposed to have some athleticism, and I wouldn't mind seeing him out there.

I don't think that's too much to ask. This team isn't that far off from being competitive. Some of the commentary about trading Stafford seems pretty lol. I've been frustrated with him too, but the woe's of this franchise are definitely not all on him.

Wow, they hung in there with the Rams and choked big time, like they have been all season. My initial hot take is that JBC should be fired sooner rather than later. Unless he is being handcuffed by Matt Patricia, in which case WTF. KC scored 51 against these guys. Their defense is beatable, and you do it through the air. There is no excuse for running the ball as many times as they did. When they did open up the offense, it was mostly good things happening.

@ Arizona
@ Buffalo
vs Vikings
@ Packers

0-4 would be amazing, as it would launch us passed the Cardinals and Bills in the draft pecking order. We could be picking as high as 2 or 3 if that happens. That needs to be our primary goal from here on out.

I'd trade Stafford in the off season, absorb the cap hit, and tank for Fromm or Tua in 2020.

I wouldn't rule this game out as a semi-intentional tank. That's the only logical explanation for this WOAT play-calling. There is no other excuse for sticking to the run and chewing up clock down by 10 with 7 minutes to play. I don't think this team is quite bad enough to finish out 0-4, but 5-11 seems very much in play.

As for Stafford, it's a tough decision at this point. This team is pretty much in full rebuild mode. But teams have completed rebuilds in one year. The Rams were pretty much a worst to first turnaround. Stafford has had bad years in the past and bounced back. At this point it's just a matter of age. His arm is not quite what it used to be. The question is whether or not he can play the position with only average arm strength, or if he's always been over-reliant on an above average arm, and now that it's gone he's lost his value. The cap hit seems too crazy for him not to play two more years, but if Quinn sees a path to them winning with Stafford gone, I won't cry too much if he decides to take it. He better be right though.

I think they can still build around an offensive core of Stafford/Johnson/Golladay. On Defense there's a bit more work to be done, unfortunately. But this team was never supposed to be built around the defense. This defense is bad, but it's built mostly from spare parts. One or two more key playmakers should help.

I never buy into the narrative that a team is X amount of years away from competing. There are too many teams that come out of nowhere and have great years in this league. They have stockpiled some draft picks, and with one good off season they can come back much stronger next year.

IDK the Fromm idea is intriguing. Watching him slide instead of go for a critical first down that could've been the difference in the biggest game of the year makes me think he would be the prefect Lion.

I checked out week 1. I only watch red zone for fantasy and elite primetime games. Being 35 i just cant take the lions pain weekly anymore.

That said were back into a position of being awful enough to land a good draft pick. Just gotta hope we dont win to many pointless games.

I thought we had a good hire with this coach but god was I wrong. Dude needs to shave that stupid beard.

The schedule has all the look of pointlessly winning 2 or 3 of last 4 and pushing us to 14+ for draft postiion.

Not to brag, but man I nailed this one. Was on top of the world when we took the our first possession against Seattle 91 yards to go up 7-0. We then gave up a methodical 75 yard drive to get tied 7-7, then fumbled the next kickoff and were quickly down 7-14. It's been a real ****ter ever since.

kinda hard to win in the NFL with a bottom 5 running game, a bottom 5 defense, and a coach that is so fat he is the 3rd, 4th, and 5th worst coach in the league

Lions had the #2 defense in the entire NFL in 2014. Dude couldn't win the division, couldn't get out of the first round.

We've had a good running game at times this year, especially before the Kerryon injury. Doesn't matter. Dude cannot win games, ever.

The excuse making for this guy is insane. It's never his fault, and he always needs more help. Tom Brady throws to white midgets and gets it done. Rodgers won a super bowl with like 10 of the Packers 15 most important players injured. Nick Foles won a super bowl as a backup gawdamn QB.

Stafford apologists are the worst man lol. Get the **** out of fantasy land and take a breath of fresh air in reality. Dude is a lame, always has and always will be. ****ing guy is gonna be 35 when this contact ends and youll still have people talking about what he needs to finally win a playoff game.

Oh....and Stafford, yes, mr UHHMMMMMMM himself is the reason Jim Bob is here. The sole reason.
