...and WAS is eight point favorites. NYG must have announced they are resting starters?

Edit: if WAS wins, and ATL and SEA lose, we would go into Sunday night playing for the two seed, but out of the playoffs if we lose.

Haha

I mean I have to laugh at anyone who thinks we're beating Rodgers and the Packers in a must win game.

If you could take a tie (and thus clinch exactly the #6 seed) right now, would you do it? Green Bay should, because they'd win the division in such a scenario, and they can't really do better by winning (might get the #3 instead of the #4 but who cares).

60 minutes of knee-taking would be spectacular.

I heard they had 17 plays for 5 total yards after the TD to go up 21-14.

I would not take that, because we are probably going to GB for the first playoff game.

Anything less than winning the division now would be a failure. Squeaking into the 6 seed and losing isnt going to cut it.

Playoffs or no playoffs it's been a magical year. This is as good as it gets for a Lions fan.

crosschecking as i type:

3 plays -8 yds
3 plays 9 yds
5 plays -7 yds
6 plays 11 yds
9 plays 46 yds (missed fg, lol)
8 plays 26 yds
6 plays 25 yds
3 plays 16 yds

so they had about 120 yards total offense over final 37 minutes after going up 21-14. over half those yards were down 21 with less than 4 minutes to play.

embarrassed to have researched such turdsmanship.

tl;dr: this is a bad team w/o slay and riddick. kudos to dallas' gameplan knowing riddick was 86'ed.

Does anybody know why Zenner wasn't playing much in 2nd half. Looked like a legit running game for 3 drives then the Dwayne Washington show started. Made no sense.

I agree with above - if we aren't gonna beat GB then just let this season be over. I don't need to see the Lions get stomped 4 weeks in a row by playoff teams

Thread reaches historical new low. Now we're hating on the Jackie Robinson of NFL running backs.

Can't really give them too much credit for the gameplan since we put up 21 in the first half, with our offense going pretty much unstopped. Riddick certainly adds an element to the offense, but he's never been the focal point of it, and he's been pretty ineffective as a conventional running back. It was their second half defensive adjustments that shut them down. As usual, we seemed to get out coached again.

Zenner only sucks in that he lacks the traditional speed/power/vision combination we expect in a typical running back. While there are only certain types of run plays that he is effective at running, you can't deny he moved the ball well on the ground in the first half. He has a unique shiftyness that helps make up for his other shortcomings as a running back. I'm not sure you can feed him the ball 20+ times per game and not have defenses figure him out and shut him down, but I know they've never tried, and the first half of this game was the best our running game has looked in a while. All that happened against the leagues top running defense.

My guess is they went to Washington in the 2nd half to give Dallas a different look, but he sucks pretty bad. Aside from some occasional impressive displays of power, he's done jack all. Most of his big runs come when he has a hole big enough to fly a 747 through.

It does seem this team has gone away from the screen game a lot, which is another area Zenner has been effective, and it can help supplement the normal garbage run game.

I still think this has been a pretty successful season given how bad last season was when they were getting blown out by mediocre teams. They still need about 4 or 5 new players on defense at LB/DB, possibly a RB, and god help us I think they lose a lot having a TE as 1 dimensional as Ebron, who had a few more drops on Monday. A good draft and a couple key FA signings could be all this team needs to turn the corner next year. I'm really hoping they make the playoffs even if they do backdoor their way into a wildcard. I'm sure Quinn wants an extra game to evaluate this squad against a top team.

Ok, I must have misheard. In the 17 plays after that drive 5 yards. Not 17 plays & 5 yards for the rest of the game. But those were the 4 drives that essentially ended the game

Riddick to IR. Not sure if that means he is done or if they just want the roster spot for another game or 2.

Ouch, that's huge imo. I don't know enough about football to understand why many/most rbs aren't great at catching balls out of the backfield, but he is one of the best at it and the offense works much better with him on the field.

Its not that he is so great at catching balls, but he is insanely elusive in open space, more so than most backs. When he catches the ball in the flat he doesnt have 11 defenders swarming at him like he does on a handoff. So having the ball out in the flats with only 1 or 2 guys to beat and field to work with plays to his strengths.

As good as he is at it, the lack of a conventional run game is still a huge liability despite what riddick brings to the table as a scat back.

2016 pre-season predictions. Some good, some bad, some ugly. In everyone's defense, we could easily be 7-9 right now.

To be fair. Assuming we lose. That's 9-7. The Minnesota game is a loss 99.8% of the time. So basically 8-8 while running super hot.
