Around these parts, we call that Brett Favreitis.

Early in the game, he has to follow the gameplan and try not to **** up. When the team is down, he is more free to just let it fly and take some risks.

I guess if the coaching staff let Matt be Matt, people might start asking why you need the coaches in the first place.

It's annoying that everyone on the radio and TV is talking about the blown call and not the fact we scored 3 points the whole game.

Offense just isn't good enough.

Yup. With those turnovers and our defensive performance only scoring 3 points is ridiculous. Offense is one of the worst in the NFL.

Offense isn't great but we've had a brutal brutal schedule to open the season and have played two top 5 defenses in back to back weeks. So we probably look a bit worse than we actually are on offense although it doesn't ****ing matter anymore since the season is down the ****ter.

Caldwell is a massive pussy and Mayhew is a hack. The quotes and demeanor since MNF ended is pathetic for the players and staff. A critical requirement for being a good football coach is the ability to instill confidence and other motivating factors, either through insanity (Harbaugh) or evil genius (Belichick). Caldwell is a soft boring pussy ass summer camp football coach who gets the kids dropped off insuring the parents that the youngsters will learn some X's and O's and nothing bad will happen to them. His ****ing attitude is horrible and the Lions are dip****s for giving him control.

Gruden kept saying the Lions have a 1 dimensional offense.

I would argue we have a 0 dimensional offense.

Lead story on ESPN right now: Aaron Donald is the NFL's Best Defensive Tackle.

It's too bad there was no way to foresee any future need at that position when he fell to us in the draft.

So here's my thoughts. New NFL rule. A team can, no more than once every 5 years, after at least a 4-12 or worse season, exercise the nuclear option. All player contracts are voided, everyone is a free agent. Coaches and GM's must be fired. It's too easy for GM's to give big contracts to mediocre or aging players that can ruin a team. This team needs to be blown up big time, but we have to wait out all these awful contracts. Mayhew ruined this team. Caldwell may be a decent guy and a breath of fresh air compared to Schwartz, but hiring Lombardi was his move, so he's lost all football credibility in my mind.

Loved seeing Stafford benched. Orlovsky has a garbage arm but he spreads the ball well and makes better decisions. I'm pretty sure if we had some sort of compromise middle ground between the two QB's we're at least 2-3 now.

Although it really doesn't help that the person at the head of this team calling the shots is a 90 year old woman. I mean really, even if we fire Mayhew, she hires the next GM. How can that inspire any confidence that things get better next time.

I don't know what it is about sports that makes you follow the team from the geographical region you live in. I really wish I didn't care about this team, and it makes no sense that I do. I imagine this is what people who have screw up kids feel like. You know they're no good and you should just stop caring, but no matter how hard you want to you just can't. I really want them to start making better decisions and right this ship, but there is just something about the core of this team that is fundamentally broken. This team is a "bad egg", and there doesn't seem to be anything anyone can do about it.

Don't we have a QB on the practice squad? Maybe we can bring him up and see what he can do.

Speaking of which, why the **** is Dan Orlovsky our backup QB anyway? I'd rather take chances with an undrafted FA rookie than him.

I've always been a fan of keeping 2 backup QB's. The scrappy veteran who maybe had a season or two as a starter but couldn't quite cut it, and the late round or undrafted rookie with some upside. We sort of had both for a while, but decided 2 QB's was too many to keep. Moore didn't want to be on our practice squad, so we brought in Moore#2 (Ricky Stanzi). Maybe they promote him this week, but probably not.

I'm really not sure where you go from here as a team. What do you say to an 0-5 team ? 2008 we knew was an awful team. There were no expectations going into the season. They knew they were outmatched everytime they went on the field and they played their hearts out. There was hope for the future. Millen was out, Megatron was young, there was a sense that maybe the team could turn it around, and for a brief while, it appeared they had.

Do you give them the "We can finish 11-5, were not done yet, keep playing" speech? Do you tell them that win or lose they're still professionals and need to act and play like it? Do you convince them to play for their next contract? I'm not sure how you motivate a pro team when their season is over this early on. I'm way more bummed now then I was in 08. At least then we had the week 3 Millen firing to give us hope. Someone has to get fired for an 0-5 start and the loss this week.

Caldwell says Stafford is still the starter, which I read as "Orlovsky wasn't particularly great either, so we're stuck with this guy"

I mean Valenti's Tuesday rant was 100% right. The problem with this franchise isn't the coach or the QB or the players. It's management. The ownership doesn't care, they hire **** GM's and don't hold them accountable for their actions, and it results in this terrible product we've had for the last 50 years.

Unfortunately we're stuck with the Ford family indefinitely. Maybe one player or coach can come along that is so stellar, so transcendent that they can turn around this ****box franchise, but I don't think our ownership will allow that to happen.
