I mean I didn't even think they'd be good this year, but I thought they'd be dynamic on offense and fun to watch. Thought they could realistically win 7 games and in the best case scenario maybe even luck into a wildcard. After just one game this has completely changed. Stafford possibly out for the year, huge falloff in production from the backup, offense will be mediocre at best, defense was never going to be any good to begin with... bring on the 2011 draft.

I love Jim Schwartz. He refuses to blame the refs during the presser and talks about how we missed plenty of other chances to win the game. Just a great attitude and exactly what this team needs after taking a brutal screwjob.

maybe not, but if they want an mri it's not likely he has a broken collar bone either still possible though, we'll see

You could do the x-ray for the collar bone and the mri to check the connective tissue around the joint, but we'll just have to wait obviously.

Honestly Stafford wasn't that impressive either... I don't get what the gameplan was up until the last drive, but I can count the pass attempts to WR's on one hand, CJ in the endzone incomplete, Burleson incomplete, and burlson caught a ball i think in the redzone.. the offense was sickening.. my heart is broken for this defense who played their ****ing hearts out, just to see the offense go 3 and out over and over

The Bears could very easily have an elite defense this year. It's hard to know right now how much was offensive ineptness and Bears defense. Urlacher sure looked great. Peppers already making a huge impact. I would think Shaun Hill after a week of practice will play better assuming the worst, because that was terrible.

The offensive playcalling/game plan was head scratching to say the least before Stafford got injured. It's like they still had the training wheels on him or maybe just credit to the bears D.

Ugh. I really hope it's a sprain and not anything major. I'd imagine we'll know tomorrow, if it's major its like 2 straight low blows with that and megatron/nfl rule fails.

I'm over the loss a bit now, sort of. Mostly just hope Stafford is ok. I still have hope we can pull off a decent amount of wins either way.

yep, the loss sucked but I was encouraged by the defense. The secondary hit hard, Delmas is a stud. D-Line was good vs a bad bears O-Line. Interesting on who gets the start next week with the health of Kolb.

This is what I feared back in April, and why I wanted a LT instead of Suh. He's a monster, but 2 players (LT and Franchise QB) > Suh. Noone wanted to hear that though.

Side note: Anyone see the replay of that first hit Stafford took? Backus was standing straight up and whiffed on the DE. Bum, imo.

EDIT: I also wonder if that call would have been made against Brady/Moss. Food for thought, you do the dishes.

8 years in a row, I've been saying the Lions need to draft the best offensive lineman with their first pick. Every year, they don't and they keep losing. It doesn't matter if you have a dozen hall of fame skill position players, if you can't protect them, they are going to get killed. Backus is just plain awful. Sick of hearing from the commentators how good Backus is. He's gotten a dozen QB's murdered since he's been our left tackle. I don't wanna hear this bull**** that he's playing out of position, dude's pretty much only played LT his entire career.

The positives of drafting good offensive linemen is that they last a dozen years in the league, where running backs last 2.5 and QB's/WR's last little longer. You set up your offensive line and you set yourself up for ten years. I like Suh a lot, but we need to protect our QB more than we need to sack other teams' QB's.

OMG, looked up Backus on Wikipedia and he's getting flamed. LOL!!!

"Backus is a tough, yet unskilled player,"
"Backus is one of the NFL's worst LT's, ranking among the worst in sacks allowed."
"Jeff Backus is the SOLE reason Matthew Stafford was knocked out of a game against the Chicago Bears"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Backus

Also, without ever hearing about "the process", as soon as I saw Megatron let go of the ball, I got a sinking feeling in my stomach. Something instinctual, I guess. Dude should have carried the ball out the endzone and we wouldn't be talking about this right now. Instead, he slams it into the ground, lets it go, and starts celebrating. Reminds me of the soccer goalie who's been on the Yahoo front page all week, who was busy celebrating a blocked penalty kick while the ball spun into the goal. Keep it in your hands and they can't find anything wrong.

That being said, the defense looked much improved today.

All they did was run the ball or dump the ball off <5 yards from the line of scrimmage.

This guy is the 1st overall pick and he is useless to you if you don't let him throw the ball. Any bum can throw a screen. Looked like they had 0 confidence in him.

A mass overhaul is in order, get rid of the entire coaching staff imo. They suck.

The playcalling was very odd today. Usually Linehan and Schwartz will take some shots and let Matt throw the ball deep. I wouldn't judge the coaching staff of one game.

Watching the game I was wondering if Calvin wasn't playing today because after several offensive series I never saw him do anything. Just assumed he must be injured and not in uniform up until he finally caught his first pass (in the third quarter maybe?). So either he was being covered perfectly on every play or, yeah, that was some bizarre play-calling. Got to take a shot downfield every once in a while, at least while Stafford is in there (not too sure how much they should be trying that with Hill though).

I'm not saying Okung 100% blocks Pep on that play, but what I am saying is Backus gets manhandled by speed rushers, and I have a hard time believing that any of the top 3-4 tackles in this year's draft would have been standing completely upright off the snap like I saw Backus do yesterday. Probably did that exact thing when Pep tried to bury Stafford under Soldier Field.

EDIT: He was standing straight up, omg This Guy is Terrible

He barely changes Peppers' rush angle, he's too high and too slow.

Maybe one or two tackles in NFL can block Peppers and zero rookies... I get you mean long-term but Stafford gonna take some blows just bad luck.
