Side note: Anyone see the replay of that first hit Stafford took? Backus was standing straight up and whiffed on the DE. Bum, imo.
EDIT: I also wonder if that call would have been made against Brady/Moss. Food for thought, you do the dishes.
8 years in a row, I've been saying the Lions need to draft the best offensive lineman with their first pick. Every year, they don't and they keep losing. It doesn't matter if you have a dozen hall of fame skill position players, if you can't protect them, they are going to get killed. Backus is just plain awful. Sick of hearing from the commentators how good Backus is. He's gotten a dozen QB's murdered since he's been our left tackle. I don't wanna hear this bull**** that he's playing out of position, dude's pretty much only played LT his entire career.
The positives of drafting good offensive linemen is that they last a dozen years in the league, where running backs last 2.5 and QB's/WR's last little longer. You set up your offensive line and you set yourself up for ten years. I like Suh a lot, but we need to protect our QB more than we need to sack other teams' QB's.
OMG, looked up Backus on Wikipedia and he's getting flamed. LOL!!!
"Backus is a tough, yet unskilled player,"
"Backus is one of the NFL's worst LT's, ranking among the worst in sacks allowed."
"Jeff Backus is the SOLE reason Matthew Stafford was knocked out of a game against the Chicago Bears"

Also, without ever hearing about "the process", as soon as I saw Megatron let go of the ball, I got a sinking feeling in my stomach. Something instinctual, I guess. Dude should have carried the ball out the endzone and we wouldn't be talking about this right now. Instead, he slams it into the ground, lets it go, and starts celebrating. Reminds me of the soccer goalie who's been on the Yahoo front page all week, who was busy celebrating a blocked penalty kick while the ball spun into the goal. Keep it in your hands and they can't find anything wrong.
That being said, the defense looked much improved today.
