Lions playing on Sunday and then on Thursday of the same week doesn't make much sense to me. They could schedule the bye week such that every team gets at least a full week's rest before every game, instead the Lions' bye week fell between two normal Sunday games. And now they play on three day's rest (I know the Packers are in the same boat but this situation is avoidable for both teams).

Yeah another thing I told my dad was if Marinelli was coaching for an organization that was actively trying to win (like the Pistons, Dallas Cowboys, etc) Then I would agree that there's enough evidence to say he's a bad coach given the results. Conversely, it's going to be pretty hard to say the coach of the LA Clippers is a bad coach based on record and performance alone.

Agree with you that we can't tell if Marinelli was any good or not. But you go 0-16 you get fired doesn't matter how bad the players are.

Thats cause people assume everyone should be good enough to win ONE game.

This is the nfl. Only 16 game schedule.

There isnt any parity in this league.

The best teams never lose to the worst teams.

The worst teams have no shot of beating the best or medium teams.

Then give the worst teams a tough schedule with 2 games vs the worst teams.

In which against the worst teams they have a 50 50 coin flip at best and thats 2 5050 coinflips that the lions lost.

I would probaly keep a coach after an 0-16 year if i felt he was good

They clearly didnt or were too embarassed too.

Still i dont think 0-16 by itself is reason enough to fire anyone. Not in this league.

Lions had no talent at all.

Does anyone really think schwartz wouldve won a game out there last year?

I highly doubt it.

Yep. Bill Belicheck would lose his job with that record.

Thing is i dont think one coach couldve gotten a win last year for the lions.

The team had 0 talent. Okay calvin johnson. So they had 1 talent.

Last sport i remember where one talent wasgood enough was golf, not nfl

This is just stupid. It's not like they got blown out of every game. They were very close to winning several times.

I'm glad to see that I'm not as insane as my dad thinks.

Yea, I understand given the circumstances the firing is inevitable. Whether they should've fired Marinelli or not is another argument and honestly, I'm too apathetic too care about it.

But when it comes to whether we have enough information to conclude that Marinelli is a bad coach or not, the 2+2er in me, i.e. "don't be results oriented!", comes out.

Hopefully the bucs beat Kelly Clemons this week which would put us at 2 and everything stays the same

Good chance of 2-14 and Tampa Bay still drafts before the Lions, snapping up Suh.

Ah nice one. I couldn't appreciate your channeling at the time cuz I didn't pay attention to the Lions in the Rod years. (In some ways I never have paid attention to the Lions, but I enjoyed occasionally watching them in the Barry years)

Not only will Smith miss the rest of this season, he could be a question mark going into next year's training camp.

Although there's no official diagnosis yet, Lions coach Jim Schwartz termed the injury "significant." If there's ligament damage to the knee, the resulting surgery likely would mean Smith will start next year's camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

"I tried to stop-and-start and got my foot stuck in the field," Smith said, adding that he never felt pain like that before. "Never in my life."
Meh. I think Smith is a good back but this is awful news. Running back may become a position of need in the offseason. Last thing we need is more holes to fill.

Report is flat wrong vix... only in a worst case scenario will he be out until training camp, not any ligament damage.

yeah basically the idea that there is a difference between cracking your bone and have it sticking through your skin applies to ligaments and joints as well.
