So the Pats cut Gaffney, Stallworth and Deion Branch?!? Dan Koppen too?

Why exactly do we need Stephen McGee? Rather gamble it up and keep a guy that can play some special teams.

Kind of a lol way to do business if was really Jason/Bill Callahan liking what they saw during 10 minutes of action. Our guys must be out scouting hidden gems like Mackenzy Bernadeau/Nate Livings idk.

A #3 should either be a viable young project QB, or a dependable & experienced veteran that can play passably well with no reps. McGee isn't either so what's the point? If Romo and Orton were lost it would be just as well to sign a a guy off the street.

Can't say I'm thrilled, but we'll see what happens over the next week. Between cuts, waivers & post-Week 1 signings there are still two or three changes likely. WR, o-line, even a TE or a different #3 QB isn't completely out of the question. One or both of those backs could wind up on the practice squad and they've got a decent rotation on the roster so I'm not sweating that too much. I wish I saw what they do in McGee though.

Breakdown of all Cowboys cuts

The current 53.

McGee, Arkin, Coleman, Dockery, Silva, Beasley, Holmes, and Chris Jones shouldn't feel too comfortable in their spots.

Guess the Cowboys front office knows more than us. Everybody they cut and wanted made the practice squad including Coale. They didnt sign Hamilton though.

McGee waived. Nice try, Jerry, but nobody was buying it.

A random young blocking TE was signed, UDFA last year but played a little bit. He probably won't count against the cap under the Rule of 51. Gives depth for a week while Witten's out, then some FA guard or WR can be signed after the other teams play their games. Don't see 4x TEs + a FB long, but Witten looks to be out for Wednesday.

Well NYG doesn't have a Jason Witten to lose. They've got o-line problems, which is kind of like a bizarro inside-out version of ours. Tackles are meh but there's some hope inside. Snee didn't do well last year but might bounce back in 2012, same as Free. I don't know what they've got left healthy at corner outside of Webster.

I like their d-line better of course but our linebackers. In fact apart from that I don't think there's a whole lot of huge differences on paper. Receivers probably, but I'm not writing off Austin/Bryant. And (like Austin) I'm not convinced Cruz is one of those guys who will do it year after year. But then I can say that about DeMarco Murray, and on and on. Really don't know but time to start finding out. it would be a good start to not give Eli free run on the secondary like last year, basically he just had to throw it up and it was either a catch or incomplete. Some of those new defenders back there now will actually look for the ball, and maybe catch it! I hear if you do that you can keep it and run the other way!

Saw that the Cowboys put in a waiver claim for a TE (his name didn't mean much to me). Probably no point in going after Winslow I'd imagine?

Seeing a lot of Cowboys fans saying 10-6 this year. I really don't know where that's coming from, I find 6-10 to be far more realistic. But if the defense really does end up being much improved, maybe 9-7 and squeaking into the wild card is possible.

Unless Romo gets hurt seven wins is probably our floor.

Somewhere in between 8-8 and 10-6 imo. 9-7 and missing out on the playoffs would hurt my heart too much.

QB - Strong
RB - Strong
TE - Strong, could use depth
OT - Good to strong, with a backup showing good things
C - Fail
G - Wat, I don't know
WR - Good, could use depth
FB - OK

CB - Very Strong
S - Decent, with a question about Church, and lack of depth
LBs - Very Strong
NT - Strong, some depth
DE - No standouts but a look of usable players

K - Strong, very accurate but weak range
P - I'm calling this a weakness or at least a major concern
LS - Very strong

I really only see three starting positions that worry me (the interior o-line), plus Chris Jones. Maybe one DE spot but at least we have a rotation and an interesting rookie. There are lots of other players I'm not sold on but, given what resources there were, I feel like they've done the right things. Church & Carter are replacing weaker players and need to get their shot, this is why they were developed/drafted.

The extensive pro scouting department looks at everyone in the league with better eyes (and better footage) than we have, and they crunch the salary numbers too. They didn't all of that and came up with Carr, Connor, Bernadeau, Livings, and Cook as the guys they wanted to go get and they did. In the draft they wanted Claiborne and a bunch of smaller names.

Honestly how many people here would have signed Kosier in free agency, or drafted Sean Lee in the 2nd, or Murray in the 3rd? Or found Robinson last year? I disliked all those signings and picks at the time. And who here would have discovered and developed Ratliff, Romo, Austin? They do get it right sometimes too. Any team can sign some popular All-Pro at max salary or some big name past his prime, it's finding value with these other guys that takes the real work. When I see some nobody like Bernadeau get inked to a cheap multi-year deal, or trading for Cook getting a extra year penned into his contract, it intrigues me a little bit.

These guys they're bringing in are younger, cheaper vets with some actual playing time under their belts. With low-risk contracts. They might worry me but let's give it some time and see how things go when they get settled into the rotation.

If nothing else it's clear there's a different philosophy now the way Garrett is doing things, and you can see how differently they're allocating the money to certain positions than in years past. I don't know if the plan will work but the old way wasn't working. We can't spend $32m on an old starting o-line with a $7m halfback splitting carries anymore. Clearly they don't think the interior o-line or safety positions are places to spend big dollars now either.

Probably homering it up but with an above average oline this a top 5 offense in football. As is top 12 or so.

Good win. Offense came together well as the game went on. Impressed with Carter on d and the secondary play.

But JFC the penalties. One of these years we need to fix that. Sadly I thought more flags could have been thrown both ways for holds, which were more blatant than usual.
